TEAM BIO
Our names are Allison Kam, Matthew Maquiling, Melinda McTeigue, and Kevin Wang, and
we are all sophomores from Duke University.
We are a collection of Engineering, Education, English, Philosophy, and Economics
majors. We come from across the United States, ranging from California to Oregon, down to
Alabama, and back up to New York. Despite the differences in our majors, when we read the Hult
Prize challenge, we were all united by the desire it fanned in us - the desire to make a change.
Our venture, TinyTales, is a direct result of our diverse experiences and perspectives,
and we truly believe it has the potential to change the world.
Through this experience we’ve learned a tremendous amount about not only the
education system, but also how businesses, in particular startups, function and thrive, and we
hope to use this knowledge to make our venture successful by any path.

BUSINESS SUMMARY
TinyTales is a social enterprise dedicated to providing a quality education to young children in
urban slums around the world.
The biggest issues preventing young children from getting an early childhood education in
urban slums are the cost and quality of education. TinyTales solves those issues by offering free
6 hour per week storybook centered learning to young children. The storybook not only acts as
a medium to pass down cultural values, but it also helps the children cultivate numeracy and
literacy skills as they help complete the storybook. To help develop the children’s motor skills,
they will have the chance to create a doll that pairs with the particular story they are immersed
in. When the storybooks and dolls are finished, they are sold to families in America as a cultural
and collectable product, allowing us to continue to offer a no cost education to families in need.
