Allied soldiers and resistance fighters from
the Nuremberg-Fürth area during WW2
The following list is supposed to be both a memorial for the men and women from our region who actively fought the Axis Powers and an appeal to our visitors to add more information detailing the biog-raphies of those already mentioned or con-tribute new names.
To our knowledge this is the first effort to compile such a roll of honor for Allied soldiers and resistance fighters who origi-nated from a specific area in Germany before their expulsion by the Nazis. Their walks of life were intertwined in multiple ways as relatives, schoolmates, friends, refugees and eventually servicemen united in the aim to overthrow murderous re-gimes.
We want to thank Mr. Frank A. Harris, the founder and mastermind of the Nur-
emberg-Fürth Survivors’ Group for his support of the project by correspondence and making available to us the back-issues of the group’s newsletter as a most valu-able source. We are also indebted to the
participants in our survey of February 2012 among Nuremberg-Fürth families who shared with us biographical data and photographs.
In January 2014 we added a separate list at the end of the file of emigrants who do not fit the roster for being no Nuremberg-Fürthers or served in the forces of non-Allied countries in or-der to record also this information we got in the course of our research.
