Dear Brothers and Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Alleluia! What a nice Easter word! I am saying it for several reasons today. We are celebrating once again the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Alleluia! Christians have been doing this for two thousand years and the Catholic community of Tenafly has been doing it as a parish family since 1870. Alleluia! Furthermore, we have survived another winter – a rather easy one this year, and spring has arrived. Alleluia! The church is full today and we get the chance to manifest our faith and welcome our families all at the same time. Alleluia! Five months ago, I got carried away in a sermon and invited you to start saying ‘LHM’ to me whenever you felt like doing so. Do you know that several of you have been doing so ever since? I have really enjoyed that because it demonstrated to me that we are connecting, one with another. The Year of Mercy is far from over, so it is still quite appropriate to keep the ‘LHM’ prayer alive. But, I also hope that sometimes we will add ‘Alleluia’! Obviously, the real point is that you can say whatever you want. Sometimes ‘Lord Have Mercy’ is the only thing one can say in the face of the tragedies of life. But, spring does come every year. Jesus is risen and we do have each other to lean on as the OLMC family of faith. Therefore, it is Easter Sunday and ‘Alleluia’ is my word for today. Alleluia! Sincerely yours in Christ and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, fr. Dan [email protected] &

Jubilee Year of Mercy
December 8, 2015 – November 20, 2016
Lord Jesus Christ,
you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him.
Show us your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money;
the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness
only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal,
and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman:
“If you knew the gift of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all
by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world,
its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness
in order that they may feel compassion
for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after,
loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing,
so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be
a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm,
may bring good news to the poor,
proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this through the intercession of
Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit
for ever and ever.
Amen.

The Archdiocese of Newark is preparing 25 men to receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders in early June and be ordained as Permanent Deacons. This has been a journey of intense spiritual and theological formation lasting more than five years, a journey encompassing much prayer and sacrifice for these men and for their families.
These 25 come from parishes all around the Archdiocese and from all walks of life. Each has answered our Lord’s call to Ministry of the Word, at the Altar and in loving service to all God’s children.
Among these 25 is Dr. Michael Giuliano from our own OLMC parish community. Please keep our brother Michael, his wife Mary Beth, and their children in your prayers as this joyous and grace-filled day approaches. &
