The Year of Saint Luke17.07.16.

16th Sunday of the Year (Sunday Readings: of year C ::: Weekdays of year 11 ::: Breviary: Week iv)

Scripture: Genesis 18: 1 – 10.Psalm 14.

R/. Lord, who shall be admitted to your tent?

Lord, who shall dwell on your holy mountain ?He who walks without fault;he who acts with justice / and speaks the truth from his heart;

he who does not slander with his tongue.

He who does no wrong to his brother, who casts no slur on his neighbour, who holds the godless in disdain, but honours those who fear the Lord.

He who takes no interest on a loanand accepts no bribes against the innocent.Such a man will stand firm for ever.

Colossians 1: 24 – 28.Luke 10:38-42

Intercession : We pray to the LordResponse : Lord, hear our prayer.

A guy walks into a bar with his dog. They get to drinking, and after a while the dog passes out. Soon the man gets up to leave and the bartender says, ‘Hey, you can’t leave that lyin’ there.’ The guy turns and says, ‘It’s not a lion, it’s my dog.’

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Two men are out on the lake enjoying a couple of beers and fishing when one suddenly says, ‘I think I’ll divorce my wife. She hasn’t spoken to me in six months.’ The other replies, ‘Better think it over first. Women like that are hard to find.’

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^The scene : An Irish pub in Boston on Saint Paddy’s day. The only customer is drinking a pint of Guinness at the bar. A second patron walks in, orders a drink, and sidles up to the next stool. The late arrival turns to the other and makes small talk. ‘Where ye from? He asks in a thick Irish accent. ‘Ah’m from Ireland!’ the first man replies. ‘Ah, me too! Let’s drink to Ireland!’ ‘To Ireland!’ The two men down their pints and order another round. ‘Whut part of Oireland are you from?’ ‘Ah’m from Dublin’ ‘Ah, me too!’ ‘A drink to Dublin!’ The two men down another pint and order more drinks, ‘What school did you attend?’ St. Margaret’s.’ ‘Ah, me too.’ ‘A drink to St. Margaret’s, our old school!’ More drinks are dispatched. ‘What year did ye graduate?’ ‘Eh, 1965.’ ‘Me too. This is a coincidence. A drink to the great class o’ 1965!’ The two men continue their animated conversation slapping each other on the back and downing more pints. A local walks in during this scene and hears the carousing. He calls to the barman. ‘What the hell are those two on about?’ The barman replies, ‘Ah, the O’Malley twins are drunk again.’

World Youth DayTuesday 19th July a group of young people from the Archdiocese travel to Poland and will join thousands

of other groups from the four corners of the earth to celebrate their Catholic Faith with Pope Francis.

The Archbishop will join them along with a number of Priests from our Archdiocese. One of those is our own Michael Doyle, who has had many sleepless nights this past year co-ordinating flights, hotels and the young people. This has been a demanding job for Michael but he has been determined it will be a success. He has shown both to me and the Archdiocese that he is a proficient and capable organizer. Our prayers go with them and we pray they will have a safe journey there and back and find many graces during their Pilgrimage.

CONFIRMATIONMay I congratulate those young adults who were Confirmed last Thursday by Archbishop George. They were a credit both to their families and the Parish of All Saints..I pray that they will deepen their love of the Lord through serving their neighbour and building up our Parish with the Gifts of the Spirit which they received that night.

PARISH OFFICE

Become a Holy Door Helper! The Diocesan Evangelisation Team invites you to help run a “Mission to the Doors of Mercy” in September this year. Each day between 19 and 23 September we will visit a different Holy Door Church and put on a series of meals. With your help, we will invite non-Catholics and non-churchgoing Catholics to come and share a simple meal, hear something of Pope Francis’ message of mercy, and, for those who wish, take part in a short prayer service which ends with an opportunity to pass through the Holy Door.

We are asking for help when we visit your local Holy Door: Newport, St Mary’s Stow Hill – Wednesday 21st September.

We need helpers available during the afternoon and/or during the evening who can: welcome guests at the door and as table hosts; prepare or serve tea, coffee and soup; provide music and readers for the simple prayer service. We also need your help before the Mission Day , please contact the parish office: 01633 265533 or contact Madeleine Walters on [email protected] or Revd Gareth Leyshon on 029 2073 1061.

After this event, we intend to organise a trip to visit all the Diocesan Holy Doors, as part of the “Pilgrimage of Prayer”.

"During the past few years, St. David's Community has become more and more a Multi cultural Community ---- so rich in Diversity, while at the same time  growing together.  It is just wonderful and so encouraging to experience the Joy of doing together what we can --- To share our giftedness with one another for the good of the whole community and beyond. There was an example of this on Sunday when one member of the community collapsed during Mass.  So many of you rallied around  to offer help and support.A truly Multi cultural Church in action --- Sincere Thank you. If you have any suggestions as to what we can do together to strengthen the bonds between us, please let us know. We would welcome any ideas you have.May God Bless you all.    Sr. Brigid "LotteryWednesday 6th July No. 04 V. ParkmanSaturday 9th July No. 12 K. Casey

Flower Beds                   We are in the process of creating a few flower beds around our church. This is not an easy task due to certain constraints placed upon us.  We therefore need to extend the hand of friendship to our fellow parishioners and ask for your help. If you think you can help us with the digging, and/or donate some cuttings, shrubs, seeds, perennial plants (whatever to fill the beds) we would be most grateful.  We can collect any cuttings, shrubs etc at the appropriate time of the year, just call Mary on 07506614580
