LPI, Inc.

5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Lord Jesus Christ, You have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.

Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

5º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

"When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him." Just when business was finally booming, Simon and Company closed up shop. The timing was strange, really. After a lifetime of fishing to make a living, these men had just hauled in so many fish that "their nets were tearing" and "the boats were in danger of sinking." Just imagine the profit on the other side of this night's work! Just imagine how their reputation would have grown. How easy it would have been to go out and buy a new fleet of boats and to upgrade their stash of nets. Most likely for the first time, wealth was within reach. And yet, just then, Simon, James, and John left their boats on the shore and followed Jesus in the task of "catching men." This is astonishing. Not only did they give up their sudden monetary success, they gave up EVERYTHING. In a moment's time, these men radically altered their life, their plans, their future, and their fortune. And civilization has never been the same since. Thanks in large part to the courage of these first apostles, and of their successors the bishops, and of all the faithful men and women religious throughout history who have "left everything and followed him," our church has continued to flourish and our culture has been greatly enhanced. Those of us who are members of the laity are likewise called to follow Christ, of course. The tremendous sacrifices that priests and religious sisters make should inspire us, and remind us that serving Christ-at any cost-is worth it. Their lives stand as a powerful witness indeed. Today, let us pause to thank God for these men and women and to ask his blessing on them all. LPI, Inc.

Often people attend Mass at All Souls for several years, but never register. Registering here is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community and to make a commitment to the life of All Souls Church. Being a registered parishioner makes

the process much easier when it is time for infant baptism, school or religious education registration, weddings, when asked to be a baptismal or confirmation sponsor, and even funerals. A registered parishioner receives all parish mailings, too. Church law advises that territories or boundaries no longer limit parish registration. All Souls accepts anyone who wants to share in the life of the parish regardless of where they live. In order to register, you need to complete a registration card. These may be found in the narthex of the church or chapel, the parish office during the week or online at our parish website: www.allsoulssanford.org. Why not sign up today? We love our new parishioners!

Anthony Aarons, T.O.R. will be our presenter. Ocean of God’s Mercy: Jesus called out to Peter and told Him, to put out his net into the deep. Even though Peter had caught nothing ALL NIGHT LONG, he was willing to do so yet another time. I give thanks to God for Peter’s obedience. So many years later, even today we too have an opportunity for a “one more time” experience. Maybe it deals with your child and discipline. Maybe it is a troubled relationship or marriage. Maybe it is work. No matter what our situation is Jesus is calling us to “Put out into the deep.” Will we respond like Peter? Let us allow God’s mercy to strengthen us and give us fortitude to stand firm, and not give up.

Prayer for our Deceased Priests: O God, you raised your servants, to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ, according to the Order of Melchisedech, giving them the sublime power to offer the Eternal Sacrifice, to bring the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ down upon the altar, and to absolve the sins of men in your own Holy Name.
