A fresh approach to cost-effective tidal energy
www.sustainablemarine.com
SME is aiming to deliver the next generation tidal platform technology that will challenge the current tidal energy industry on price and performance. With its team of marine engineers, SME will build, deploy and maintain PLAT-O systems for a wide range of customers.
PLAT-O is a tidal platform designed to host tidal turbines that will generate power from the tides; one of the Earth’s most abundant and reliable renewable energy sources. PLAT-O provides a reduction in the cost of tidal energy of up to 25% and offers enhanced yields due to its optimum position in the water column.

Patent GB2416567: Applied for October 2004, granted July 2010. A simple method of converting the power of the rise and fall of the tide into electrical power. It will not pollute.
A simple method of converting the power of the rise and fall of the tide into electrical power.
It will not pollute.
It could be as attractively pleasant as a Victorian seaside promenade.
Within an industrial dock it could utilise the general gantries and lifting arrangements.
It will create new real estate.

Space for Turbines, air/gas receivers to supple the turbines
Another configuration for Vessel/Pontoon and machinery
Firstly, promoting a patented method of taking power from the tides. Secondly, promoting the extraction of Gas Hydrates, particularly in British waters.
A Pontoon used as a normal Dock may be 1,000 feet x 360 feet with displacement of 200,000 tons. On a 20 feet tide it would produce 560 Kilowatts. 400 such Pontoons would produce 225 Megawatts. This does not seem very much but it must be noted that tides of 40 feet are not uncommon on the rivers Mersey and Severn. The Whole could be considered New Real Estate as well.

Offshore Operations and Maintenance Mutualisation (2OM)
A project dedicated to offshore wind operators, manufacturers, ports, and contractors of the English Channel.
Logistics experts in the UK and France have won €1.9 million funding to find ways of more efficiently configuring the supply chain of offshore wind farms, in order to optimise the per unit electricity generation costs.
The Universities of Portsmouth, Le Havre and Plymouth are looking at reducing the cost of setting up and maintaining offshore wind farms as part of this European Union initiative. The main objectives of the project are as follows:
Development of decision support tools to enable offshore wind operators, manufacturers, ports, and contractors to optimise their costs and reduce the currently high logistics costs associated with erecting and maintaining offshore wind farms.
Modelling of navigation through offshore wind farms. Reconciling the preferences of the different maritime space users.
Undertake comprehensive joint studies on the supply chain of offshore wind farms through their life cycle.
