Wonderful news
et me tell you this story: There was a group of friends, of daring fishermen from the Sea of Galilee. Their names were Andrew, John, Simon and James. They passionately loved
their work and formed a small society that had fishing boats. Their life was an adventure. Sometimes they would spend the entire night, in the middle of storms, whirlpools, and even shipwrecks, unable to catch anything. But, on the other hand, other times the fishing was good and people could find the fishermen, after the morning sale concluded, busy the rest of the day repairing the ripped nets caused by the weight and pulls of an abundant catch.
Since they were children, they nurtured in their hearts the hope of a better world ... a world in which the unjust did not exploit the poor and the unfortunate ..., a world in which the ignorant were educated, the sick and injured were cared for and cured ..., a time when the country would once again be free and independent. Thus, they lived, waiting for the promised liberator, the Messiah announced by the prophets. And to keep this waiting and this hope more alive, the men of the Sea of Galilee went in their times of rest to see the new prophet emerged in the desert, a certain John the Baptist, as they called him. John the Baptist lived in the uninhabited steppes on the edge of the Jordan River. He was a man of the desert. Far from the noise of the cities, the prophet could hear the voice of God in his heart. Obeying a mysterious call, the Baptist had come to the bank of the Jordan to announce the imminent arrival of the Messiah. Andrew, John, Simon, James and the others heard the Baptist speak of a “revision of life” with all its demands. Captured by the figure of John and by his teachings, the fishermen of the Sea of Galilee were preparing to be part of the group of the Messiah of whom the Baptist said had already arrived, but that he still lived in shadows. One fine day, a certain Jesus of Nazareth appeared on the banks of the Jordan and the Baptist, showing him to John and Andrew, made this unexpected declaration: "Take a good look at that man ... He is the Messiah, the Christ.” Andrew and John, without doubting the word of the prophet for a moment, had left him to follow, at a respectful distance. Jesus, realizing that they were following him, had turned and asked them: What do you want? Teacher, where do you live? –They had responded timidly waiting for a look of attention -
come and see, He answers them. The next day, just after dawn, Andrew was already looking for his brother, Simon, to tell him of his discovery: “Simon! A wonderful news! We have found the Messiah!" And he led him to Jesus. And Jesus, who understood people, appreciated them immediately. Dear young people, this wonderful news is also for you, that is why we invite you to share with us in our youth group, a space to meet with Jesus and with others. Our first meeting will be on Sunday, August 8th at 5:30 PM at our parish. I assure you that, just like Andrew, you will also tell your friends, come and see! Fr. Marcos

Padre Marcos
