Dear Parents and Carers

This week we welcomed back Acorn Class, Year 1 and Year 6 along with more key worker

children. The corridors and classrooms are once again ‘abuzz’ with learning. I do not have

enough words to emphasise how incredibly proud I am of how each child has adapted to their new

learning environment. They have all been awesome, sharing their resilience and ability to adjust to

change so quickly.

A huge thank you to all parents and carers for reading the newsletters and for helping our

organisation run smoothly during drop off and pick up time. It is essential that everyone keeps to

the times slots allocated to ensure we have enough space for everyone to park.

For those who continue to home learn, Rev Annie is uploading her assemblies for us all to watch

and follow. We are watching them in school within each bubble and joining in with singing the

hymns.

Please continue to ensure you follow the home school agreement, ensuring you inform us straight

away should your child show any symptoms of Covid-19.

Currently, we are running our school with ten learning bubbles and we are at full capacity. All staff

have been utilised to cover specific bubbles in order to support our children. Should a staff

member become poorly, a decision will be made by 7:30am as to whether or not we can provide

cover for the bubble in question. Parents and carers of those children within the given bubble will

be sent a message via Schoolzine or email, should we be unable to provide cover. The bubble

will be closed that day until the staff member returns or until cover can be provided. Parents and

Carers will be contacted when we are able to re-open the bubble. We obviously hope that this

will NOT happen.

To find out more about our learning community, please look at the pictures below and read all

about the exciting learning that has been taking place.

As always, with prayers and the warmest of best wishes to you and your families

Acorn (Bubbles 1 & 2)

This week, Acorn class have been learning both at home and at school! The children at school

have been settling into their new ‘bubbles’ for learning well and have impressed the staff with their

knowledge of how to keep safe and healthy. After looking at the posters designed by Julia

Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, the children have created their own posters featuring a variety of

book characters.

We have been recapping phonics sounds and using these for reading and writing words and

sentences. We have been ordering numbers and have used a maths story about counting legs to

find different ways to represent the same number.

To celebrate World Environment day that falls on Friday 5th June, we have thought about how we

can help the environment and some of us have used our recycling to design and make ‘litterbugs’!

Class 1 (Bubbles 3 & 4)

Class 1 children have been very busy with their home and school learning! First we looked at, and

then wrote, some animal reports, sharing facts that they had researched all about animals. The

children have also been learning all about the 5 senses and have been exploring poetry.

Key worker pupils

In 'bubble 6' the children needed a little art therapy to help create a sense of teamwork this week. Mrs O'Donnell was only too happy to help! We completed two little art projects in which all the children in 'the bubble' (from Year 2 to Year 5) could enjoy. The first was a picture of a whale in the sea. The children constructed the whale from card and then glued it onto the background which they created with swirling patterns and different tones of blue using watercolours. The second project was called bubbles. Inspired by a video where we noticed the different colours captured in a bubble. We used pastels and white chalk to create these pictures. To add to the realistic effect we overlapped them and drew some coming off the page. The 'wow' moment was when we put them all up on the wall side by side. The best bit for me was seeing the engagement and enjoyment from the children and the 'soothing feel' that being engaged in art can bring. I wonder what our next project will be...

Home learning

Class 2 continue to be working really hard with all their home learning.

As we entered lockdown eight weeks ago, the children were sent home with bean seeds which we

were using in our science learning. We watched as they grew their roots and shoots. Bethan and

Ella have recently shared photos of their beans which are now planted out in their gardens – we

look forward to seeing the beans when they finally grow.

Ella used LEGO to work out her times tables this week and enjoys wearing her school uniform

during the day when she is home learning.

We have spent time thinking about Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth 2 and comparing their

lives and families.

Within our STEAM challenges we have designed and made castles and photo frames for our

portraits. The Queen has lots of portraits painted and so we spent time learning how to paint our

own portraits.

The weekly science experiments are enjoyed by many children – especially when sweets are

concerned! Lots of children tried the sweet challenge and watched as the colours spread out from

the sweet when water was added.

We love seeing the children’s smiling faces when they upload all their work – we miss you all!

This was Arthur’s final result

Class 3

Class 3 have been practising their art skills and were asked to complete the challenge of drawing

and painting a giraffe. The results were enough to put a smile on my face!

We have also explored Kit Wright’s poem ‘The Magic Box’. The children wrote some fantastic

poems about what they would put in their magic box. Some children decided to make their own

magic box.

We also completed a gummy bear experiment and explored what would happen if we left a

gummy bear in water. Here is Austin exploring his results!

Miss Daniel set a fantastic outdoor challenge to make a bird feeder for the garden. Here is Grace’s

creation!

Class 4

In Year 4, we have been looking at what it was like to be a Native American Indian. The children have been doing lots of research so they that they can create a presentation about what they have learnt. They have discovered all about the different tribes and their way of life.

The children have had a fantastic time making dream catchers, weapons and teepees at home. The key worker children at school have started making teepees in the forest area. They hope to decorate material with traditional designs which they will use to finish the teepees off.

In maths, they have been collecting their own data and creating bar charts and pictograms with the information they have found. Some of the children have been using J2Data to create their charts and some children have been drawing their charts by hand. Mrs Holt and Mrs Roberts

Class 5

Class 5 continue to show how amazingly talented they are with their home learning. They can be

proud of their efforts and it is lovely to see so much creativity and dedication they continue to show

towards their work.

As part of their recent project work, Class 5 completed some great historical learning on the Tudor

period. The class were asked to discover the Tudor dynasty and the relationship Henry VIII had

with the church, his wives, and Hans Holbein. Here are some examples from Hattie, Millie and

Alfred.

Also, as part of Miss Daniel’s artwork challenge the class were asked to research and create a

famous piece of art. Here is Matilda’s creative take on the outdoor learning that was set.

In English, we have been studying a range of different poetry. One such poem was ‘What do you

want to be by?’ Wilf Merttens, an inspirational poem about looking forward to the future.

Here is a version of the poem by Harry.

Mr Hutchings Year 6 (Bubbles 8, 9 &10) We are all proud of the efforts and enthusiasm Year 6 have shown with their learning. They have been supporting each other and working well as a team during this time as well as spreading positivity around the All Saints community. Those working at home continue to impress us - particularly it seems with their gardening skills! Year 6 have been learning about the eruption of Vesuvius and the impact this had, at the time, on the city of Pompei. Below is an example of poetry using personification. The Year 6 key worker children have maintained their smiles while we waited for others to join us. We know that during this final term all Year 6 children (regardless of whether they are at home or in school) will make the All Saints family extremely proud.

The day she came by Brooke Streetin

For there was unity in the city of Pompeii,

But this was not for long, Nobody knew what was coming,

Nobody. The day that was ahead,

Was going to be truly terrible, There was a lady,

She was going to cause the horrible day, She stood almighty,

She was mad, Why she was mad

Nobody knows. The lady started to become infuriated,

Every day she would get madder and madder, One day she could not stand it,

She exploded. With pure vexation,

She made all the people evacuate, Just so she could be solitary,

Just to feel better. She destroyed homes,

She took innocent lives, She covered the city of Pompeii,

She was the almighty.
