ROSARY AT THE GROTTO

Feast of All Saints November 1st

Sunday, November 1st, is the feast of All Saints the patronal feast of our parish. One of the most beautiful beliefs we profess in the Apostles’ Creed is that which speaks of the “communion of saints.” What makes this feast special is the fact we are celebrating all the saints in heaven and not just those who have been canonized. We are celebrating people we have even known---people in our family, people who worked with us, suffered with us, or laughed with us. To mark this special day following the 8:30, 10:30 & 12:30 Masses we will have coffee and donuts in the parish hall. It’s an opportunity to meet fellow parish-ioners, members of the staff, chairpersons of the over 40 ministries active in the par-ish, and there will be an op-portunity to register or up-date your parish registra-tion. Please plan to stop by the hall after Mass on this awesome feast day.

Pastor’s Chronicle

This is the time of year for a homecoming week-end celebrated on many college and high school campus-es. During this time folks who graduated from a school return for the big game and retell stories of the school days, renew old traditions, and are reunited as friends. The curious thing about homecoming is that it doesn’t really matter who wins the “big” football game. The important thing is a coming home and touching base with a bitter-sweet moment in one’s life.

In the gospel story [Mk 10: 46-52] Jesus too was preaching about a homecoming to a people who were bro-ken by the misfortune of having the Roman army occupy-ing their land. The people were beaten down and needed to hear that God was waiting to shower them with inex-haustible blessing, he was inviting them to a homecoming feast where the lame, the blind, the poor, and the outcasts, would be satisfied beyond all imagination. In the story Jesus heals Bartimaeus a blind beggar who believed in him and is saved because he has faith. At the time of Jesus those who were blind, lame or those had any physical de-formity were considered as being punished by God for a sin they or their parents committed, and were excluded from the community at the synagogue. Through healing Jesus not only restored a person to physical health but also more importantly spiritual health they could go home and join the community in prayer at the synagogue.

On December 8 we will begin the Jubilee Year of Mercy promulgated by Pope Francis. It will be an oppor-tunity for us to invite those who have not been with us for a while to come home to the Lord. The Irish writer James Joyce when asked to describe the Catholic Church an-swered: “Here comes everybody!” All of us have family

and friends who are bruised and battered by life’s messiness. They long for a word of acceptance a place where they can feel at home. Along with Jesus we too can invite people to come home to God, who heals all afflictions, binds up all wounds. How can this be for you and me?

Through grace. Amazing grace that finds us when we are lost…and gives us sight to see clearly our way to the Lord.

For Parents of Faith Formation Students

Sacred and Safe, a program we share with our stu-dents in the week of All Saints, helps them under-stand at their grade level some of the common dan-gers they may face from simple safety issues of cross-ing the streets, telling the parents where they are, and other issues from bullying, and more serious dan-gers. Each grade level presents different lesson plans from very simple items in first grade through more complex issues for the adolescence. These classes are taught between Oct. 27th, through Nov. 4th. For information, please contact, Dan or Adriana in the Parish Office.

Adoration You are invited to commit to a Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration

before the Blessed Sacrament on Wednesdays from 8:30am to 7:00pm. So many graces flow to those who spend time before Christ in Eucha-

ristic Adoration. In silence, we can hear more readily that still, quiet voice of God. Adoration is a beautiful gift and I hope many of you will take ad-vantage of it. Prayerfully consider committing to one hour per week. We strive to have two committed Adorers for each hour. Many hours now have only one person and currently no one is scheduled to be pre-sent from 5-6pm. If you are interested, please contact Charla Macicek,

[email protected], 713-861-2702.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR STRUDEL MAKING

Please take a moment right now to mark the dates for our 4th Annual Apple Strudel Make at All Saints. For this project to be success-ful, we will need the help of many volunteers. If you have helped previously, you know how much fun we have. You don’t have to be a great cook to help, since the strudels are prepared in an assembly line operation. Our goal this year is to make and sell 250 stru-dels. The proceeds from the sale of these desserts will be used to fund church activi-ties. Please heed our call for help, and respond affirmatively and joyously! We will do the prep work on Friday, November 13th from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. On Saturday, No-vember 14th we will assemble the strudels from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM. To volunteer on either of these days, contact Jeanenne at [email protected], cell phone number 281-734-4625, and you will be sent additional in-formation. We look forward to hearing from you.
