Roy (Moonie) WinstonGuard - 1961Associated Press, UPI, National Editorial Alliance, CentralPress, Football Writers Association of America Look,Kodak/American Football Coaches Association, New YorkDaily News, The Sporting News, Time

Elected by teammates as 1961 captain. Played bothways, but excelled on defense with a strong initialcharge, plus speed and agility. Soft-spoken,Winston showed by example and was a born leader.First Team All-SEC in 1961 by AP and UPI. Also, played on LSU SEC champion baseball team in early1960's. Had brilliant NFL career with Minnesota.

Fred MillerTackle - 1962

A stellar lineman for the great LSU teams of theearly 1960s, Miller originally signed with Tulaneafter finishing at Homer High School, but he foundout he was one English credit short, so he wasbound for Texas A&M until Paul Dietzel sold his fam-ily on LSU. He played alongside Moonie Winston in1961 and was a blocker for Heisman runner-up JerryStovall in 1962. In his three seasons, LSU played intwo bowls, including the Orange (25-7 overColorado) and Cotton (13-0 over Texas). He wasdrafted by the Colts and later earned All-Pro honors.Member of LSU's Modern Day Team of the Century.

Jerry StovallHalfback - 1962Associated Press, UPI, National Editorial Alliance, CentralPress, Football Writers Association of America Look,Kodak/American Football Coaches Association, New YorkDaily News, The Sporting News, Time, CBS

Ironically, Stovall was the last recruit signed by LSUafter he graduated from high school. Was runner-up in the running for the 1962 Heisman Trophy. FirstTeam All-SEC in 1961 by UPI and in 1962 by both APand UPI. Played nine seasons with the St. LouisCardinals before becoming assistant coach at SouthCarolina. Returned to LSU as assistant coach andwas named head coach after tragic death of Bo Reinin 1980. Took LSU to 1983 Orange Bowl and wasnamed National Coach of the Year by the WalterCamp Football Foundation after the 1982 season.

Billy TruaxEnd - 1963Football News

He was an excellent blocker, but LSU's offense in that era wasgeared to the run and, consequently, his talents as a passreceiver were never exploited. He went on to an illustrious NFLcareer. First Team All SEC by UPI in 1963. Son, Chris, was anoffensive lineman at LSU from 1988-91.

Remi PrudhommeTackle - 1964National Editorial Alliance, New York Daily News, Football News

A stalwart of the Chinese Bandits, Remi was an unusually strongplayer. His size and weight made him unique and his aggressivetemperament fitted him ideally for the role in which he wascast. First-Team All-SEC by UPI in 1964. Went on to a brilliant procareer with the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs and NewOrleans Saints.

Doug MoreauSplit End - 1965Football News

Moreau's pass-catching ability was heralded, but his place kick-ing had to be recognized. In his junior season, his talented toewas responsible for the first two victories of the year, 9-6 overthe Texas Aggies and 3-0 over Rice. First-Team All-SEC by AP in1964. Moreau went on to play professional ball with the MiamiDolphins, but earned a law degree and served as a district judgein Baton Rouge. He currently serves as District Attorney.

George RiceTackle - 1965Time, The Sporting News

Local lad whose prowess in high school overlapped threesports: football, basketball, and track. Extremely powerful, hisspecialty at track was the shot put. A devastating blocker andtackler, Rice was another of those who played in three bowlgames during his varsity career. First-Team All-SEC by UPI in1964. He was a participant in the Hula Bowl and had a long and

successful career in the NFL and then returned to LSU as a grad-uate assistant.

John GarlingtonEnd - 1967Kodak/American Football Coaches Association

Incredible athlete whose talents typified his play andteamwork. Had excellent speed and lateral pursuit.Opponents were timid when it came to attacking hisside of the defensive line. Even with his size, he wasa speed merchant. In the 1966 Rice encounter, Johnpicked off an errant pass and returned it 42 yards fora touchdown. First-Team All-SEC in 1966 by AP and in1967 by both AP and UPI.

George BevanLinebacker - 1969Football Writers Association of America-Look, Kodak/American FootballCoaches Association

Possibly the finest all-around linebacker ever to play at LSU. Hissize had absolutely nothing to do with his desire, competitive-ness, leadership and commitment. In the first game of his jun-ior year, he injured his Achilles tendon to such an extent that heunderwent several surgeries and spent 32 months on crutches. There was little hope he would ever play football again, but by the summer of 1969, his deter-mination had earned him a starting role. Although he had many notable moments, hisblocked extra point against Auburn in the classic 21-20 victory by LSU had to be his crown-ing achievement. First-Team All-SEC by AP and UPI in 1969. He earned his law degree and isan attorney in Baton Rouge.

Tommy CasanovaSafety - 1969, 1970, 1971Associated Press (1969-70), Kodak/AmericanFootball Coaches Association (1969-70), UPI(1971), Central Press (1971), Football WritersAssociation of America (1971), Walter Camp(1971), Football News (1971), Time (1971)

Versatility personified might be the bestdescription of the myriad talents ofTommy Casanova. During his three yearLSU career, he played offense anddefense, returned punts and kickoffs anddid everything except handle the watercart. A fearless competitor, he led theteam by example through three brilliantseasons and entered immortality as aresult of his actions, both on and off thefield. One of just two three-time All-SECperformers from LSU, 1969-70-71. Played several seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals whilepursuing his medical degree. Now is an ophthalmologist in his home town.

Mike AndersonLinebacker - 1970Associated Press, UPI, Central Press, Football WritersAssociation of America-Look, Kodak/American FootballCoaches Association, Football News, Time

Started every game during his three years as an LSUlinebacker. In fact, he was the second of threestraight All-America linebackers produced by LSU:George Bevan in 1969; Anderson in 1970; and WarrenCapone in 1973. Mike was noted for one great play:Auburn there in 1970, LSU leading 17-9, the Plainsmenhad the ball, fourth and one inch and 6'2", 225-poundfullback Wallace Clark drove for the TD. Andersonmet him head-on short of pay dirt and his featbecame that of which legends are made. First-TeamAll-SEC by AP and UPI in 1970.

Percy E. Roberts MVP AwardPresented to the athletes selected as the most valuable play-ers (offensive and defensive). Named for the late Percy E.Roberts, a longtime member of the LSU Board of Supervisors, who was a loyal supporter of the University and its athleticprogram. Roberts, who operated an insurance agency inBaton Rouge, began the award in 1927 and presented eachyear’s MVP with a wristwatch, in recognition of the athlete’saccomplishments. In 1965, the award was split to include anoffensive and a defensive player. Wristwatches are still pre-sented each year to the offensive and defensive most valu-able players.
