The Great Wall of China, Beijing
If you travel in space and look down on the earth, there is only one man-made structure that you can see. That structure is the Great Wall of China. It is the longest structure in the world, built by over a million people.
It was intended to protect China against enemies from the north It cannot really protect the Chinese from the airplanes and high-tech weapons of a modern invading army. Instead, it is invaded by tourists from all around the world.
Wangfujing (Food Street), Beijing
The best part about eating here is that it’s all on-the-go eating. Much of which originates
from Xinjiang province, such as squid, fish, crab, chicken and lamb
kebabs.
For the more adventurous diners
there are scorpions and other
bug kebabs.
The temple of Heaven, (Tiantan), Beijing.A complex of Taoist buildings situated in southeastern urban Beijing, in Xuanwu District. The complex was visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest. It is regarded as a Taoist temple, although Chinese Heaven worship, especially by the reigning monarch of the day, pre-dates Taoism.
The Forbidden City, Beijing
For almost five centuries, it served as the home of the Emperor and his household, and the ceremonial and political centre of Chinese government.
The National Stadium, Beijing (The Bird’s Nest)
The Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest for its architecture is a stadium that is being built in Beijing, China for 2007 completion. It will host the main track and field stadium for the 2008 Summer Olympics and will be the venue for the Opening and Closing ceremonies as well.
