Project: Alister Trafikverket, Sweden

Gravity hump yard / marshalling yard

Trafikverket (formerly Banverket)

1997-2004

The Swedish railway infrastructure operator Trafikverket was the first company to use the Alister platform. Funkwerk IT installed the Alister system in Trafikverket‘s major gravity hump yards in Borlänge, Gothenburg, Malmö and Hallsberg where it controls the fully automatic operation of hump procedures (excluding car retarders and retarder control).

The first Alister interlocking in Borlänge went into successful operation in 1998. The yard has 24 direction tracks. Since 2000, hump yard operations at Sävenäs (Gothenburg) with 2 parallel lead tracks and a total of 34 direction tracks have been controlled by the Alister system. The capacity here is 200 cars per hour. In the marshalling yard at Malmö, with a capacity of approx. 180 cars per hour, the new system has been in operation since mid-2003. In mid-2004 the Alister system was commissioned in the marshalling yard at Hallsberg. Hallsberg is the central hub for goods traffic between Stockholm, Gothen-burg and Malmö and has 2 lead tracks and 32 sorting tracks. This marshalling yard can handle up to 200 cars per hour.

• Workstation and reserve workstation with full operating functionality • Separate service workstation • Redundant communication network • SCADA system for data collection and process visualization • Replay system for evaluation purposes • Process simulation for installation tests and personnel training • The most important elements - workstation, network, SCADA, PLC, I/O-modules -

are redundant (cold-standby)

Funkwerk IT

Industrial siding

Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB (LKAB)

2007-2008 and extension 2011-2012

For the Swedish Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB Group (LKAB), one of the world‘s leading producers of upgraded iron ore products for the steel industry, Funkwerk IT installed the Alister electronic interlocking in the marshalling yard at Sjöbangården. The centrally operated system monitors and controls shunting movements on the 12 tracks and 32 points in the mine‘s own track network.

In the mine‘s railyard up to 70,000 tons of iron ore daily are loaded onto loretrains and transported to the ports of Narvik (Norway) and Luleå (Sweden). The 68 special wagons of each train hold approx. 6,800 tons of iron ore, giving the trains an overall weight of 8,000 tons. Other trains transport large quantities of coal, oil, lime and bentonite which are needed to mine and pre-process the ore. The group plans to increase the yard‘s capa-city by a further 20,000 tons daily or approx. 30% by 2012.

In the course of this extension at Sjöbangården, Funkwerk IT was awarded a contract in 2011 to integrate 18 further points and 25 further signals in the existing interlocking. When installation is completed, the Alister system will control all shunting movements in this yard from one control centre. Commissioning of the extension is planned for the second half of 2012.

• Centrally controlled marshalling yard interlocking with workstation in compliance with the Trafikverket standard

• Developed and approved in compliance with CENELEC SIL 2 • PLC technology, therefore flexible and inexpensive to upgrade • Adapted to the extreme environmental conditions with temperatures as low as

minus 25° Celsius

Funkwerk IT

Project: Alister DSB Omstillingsanlæg, Denmark

Depot and stabling yard

Danish State Railways (DSB)

Since 2005 (framework contract)

As part of a framework agreement covering a period of several years, Funkwerk IT has installed a new depot control system for Danish State Railways (DSB). The system optimizes the operation, safety and efficiency in new depots built specifically for the new passenger trains. In contrast to the earlier manual route setting by shunting personnel, the new control system enables technically advanced and standard operation of the shunting areas: the depot tracks are now set up and secured by the train drivers at the press of a button by means of locally operated electric points. Manual point switching and additional staff are no longer necessary. This makes depot operations faster, more efficient and above all, safer.

The situation in each depot is monitored by a supervisor terminal. In addition, the ove-rall status of all depot locations is monitored by a centralized supervisor terminal in the control centre in Copenhagen.

Nine depot control installations have already been commissioned, and two further depots in Kalundborg and Fredericia will be commissioned in 2011. With these commis-sionings, the majority of DSB‘s depots will have been equipped with the new automatic depot control system developed by Funkwerk IT.

• Safe point switching by means of automatic track vacancy detection • Operation by means of local route control panels • Central monitoring of all installations with the possibility of remote diagnosis,

trouble-shooting and elimination of malfunctions • Developed and approved in compliance with CENELEC SIL 2 • Approved by the Danish supervisory authority Trafikstyrelsen

Project: Alister ÖBB, Austria

Depot and stabling yard

Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB)

Since 2009 (framework contract)

In 2009 Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and Funkwerk IT concluded a framework contract for the delivery of locally operated electric points and electronic interlockings for shunting areas. The functionalities of the systems supplied by Funkwerk IT have been tailored to the different sizes and requirements of the individual track areas. They range from locally operated electric points and route setting functions using route con-trol panels or simple workstations to a centrally controlled electronic interlocking. All variations have been developed and approved in accordance with CENELEC SIL 2.

Funkwerk‘s solution for ÖBB is based on the Alister platform for shunting applications. The use of standard industrial components and advanced development processes made it possible to commission the first four interlockings within a short period of only a few months. This includes the new ÖBB Service Centre in Vienna-Matzleinsdorf which with 41 points and 54 shunting signals is the largest installation so far. The installations are operated on the basis of the Austrian standard user interface (EBO 2) in the same way as the electronic interlockings on the mainline network. The interlocking also has a stan-dard interface which enables remote control from an existing neighbouring interlocking or control centre.

Currently, serial installation of Alister interlockings is in progress in further ÖBB loca-tions. Commissioning of the installations in Graz and Innsbruck is planned for mid-2011.

• Advanced development tools with continuous data management enable fast engi-neering and short implementation periods

• Flexible operation by means of push buttons, route control panels or operator workstation with the standard user interface (EBO 2)

• Identical hardware basis (PLC) in the interlocking core for all interlocking variants • Remote control via a X25 interface from an existing electronic interlocking work-

station or from a control centre

Project: Alister Transtec Gotthard, Switzerland

Location detection for construction site trains

Transtec Gotthard Consortium(TTG)

2010-2016

Funkwerk IT is supplying a system for monitoring and management of construction site rail traffic during the building phase of Europe‘s largest and most complex railway project, the Gotthard Base Tunnel.

The system for automatic location detection and management of construction site trains is an essential part of the logistics required for the installation of railway technology in the tunnel. During the entire building phase this system monitors rail operations on the installation sites to the north and south of the tunnel, the approach sections and inside the two 57 km long tunnel tubes. It is operated centrally in the control centres located on the installations sites Rynächt and Biasca.

The solution developed for this project allows for expansion of the monitored area corre-sponding to the progress of the construction work.

The first building section, the installation site Biasca at the south portal of the tunnel, was commissioned in mid-2010. A total of 12 points are controlled at this site, one of them as locally operated electric points, the other 11 from a central workstation. In 2011 the first tunnel section and the installation site Rynächt, north of the tunnel, went into operation as well. The temporary railway installations will remain in place for the entire construction period. All location detection facilities will be completely removed prior to the commissioning of the Gotthard Base Tunnel which is planned for late 2016.

• Central operation of the installation from advanced, electronic worksations • Points in the installation sites can be switched centrally or by means of locally ope-

rated electric points • Location detection and signalling in the tunnel tubes to increase safety • Timetable for automatic handling of operations • Train number system for identification of trains in the tunnel • PLC technology, therefore flexible and inexpensive to upgrade parallel to construc-

tion progress in the tunnel www.alptransit.ch

Project: Alister ŽSR, Slovakia

Gravity hump yard / marshalling yard

Automatizácia železničnej dopravy a.s. (AŽD Bratislava)

2010-2011

Funkwerk IT is supplying an Alister installation for control of gravity hump operations to the Slovakian signalling construction company AŽD Bratislava. This order is part of a major project in which AŽD is responsible for the modernization of the marshalling yard at Teplička near Žilina in the north of Slovakia. The Alister System will be used for fully automatic control of hump yard procedures and as an interlocking (SIL 2) for the marshalling yard to ensure the safety of shunting movements. For the first time in Slova-kia, a standard catalogue of symbols for modern marshalling yard workstations has been compiled in close co-operation with Slovakian Railways ŽSR.

The compact and modular design of the Alister system enables flexible adaptation to the specific requirements of the marshalling yard at Žilina Teplička which has 18 points and 18 sorting tracks. Data on the cars to be added to or taken from the trains entering and leaving the yard are passed to the cut list. On the basis of this list Alister automatically sets the routes to direct the cars correctly into the required direction tracks. Integration of the retarder control system of Procesná Automatizácia a.s., Košice, allows exact regulation of the humping speed to ensure safe operation. In addition to controlling gravity hump operations, the Alister electronic interlocking ensures safe operation of normal shunting movements in the entire marshalling yard.

Commissioning of the new system is planned for 2011.

• Compact, modular design with standard industrial components • Pre-assembly and testing of interlocking cabinets on Funkwerk‘s integration

laboratory • Modern workstation on the basis of a standard catalogue of symbols specified

jointly with ŽSR • Development of an axle-counting software for dynamic hump operations • Development and approval in compliance with CENELEC SIL 2 www.azd.sk
