Alfresco areas are becoming more popular and barbecues are becoming more elaborate and complex putting out more heat. The problem with ventilation is when the heat output of the barbecue is over 65 mega joule or each burner is 15 mega joules or greater. Correct ventilation allows full use of all the facilities in the Alfresco areas. The barbecue selected will determine the type of rangehood and the position for the rangehood.We do point out that the outdoor barbecues are approved to be outdoors only and there are regulations by the AGA of the specifications for the building of an outdoor area.

The diagram above shows a barbecue with the hood open at 90 degrees to the cooking surface and the smoke rises vertically. The rangehood can be placed over the top of the the cooking surface. Some manufacturers recommend that you cook with the lid closed and the rangehood can be placed above the barbecue.The diagram shows the relationship of the barbecue to the rangehood.

The diagram above shows the barbecue lid is pivoted in the centre of the base and therefore covers the back half of the cooking surface. There are many models on the market that are like this and the smoke comes out from the cooking surface at about 60 degrees to the horizontal. The rangehood needs to be in front of the barbecue so it will catch all the by products of the cooking. The position will be determined by the height of the ceiling. This diagram explains the problem and the solution to this.

We recommend an air movement up to 2700 cubic metres per hour over all outdoor barbecues and for diagram 2 it may be necessary to have an air movement up to 3600 cubic metres depending on the ducting required.

Condor Rangehoods are designed and manufactured in Australia to compliment all alfresco and outdoor areas. The latest design in outdoor entertaining can now become truly viable with the addition of a Condor Rangehood. The Condor Rangehood will remove all by-products of outdoor cooking – smoke, grease and odours.

Many barbecues installed in alfresco areas can be quite elaborate and exotic. They can include different cooking appliances, such as side burners, wok burners and rotisserie spikes, and are available in natural and LP gas. Significantly, they can generate an enormous amount of smoke and odours.

The barbecues available in today’s market place can produce an output of up to 130 mega joules. The air movement of the exhaust system must be greater than the updraft caused by the burners of the barbecue. The Condor Rangehood achieves this via 3 forward curved centrifugal fan motors with a maximum air movement of 2700 cubic metres of air per hour. This is matched by an incomparable degree of quietness, which is achieved by fully insulating the rangehood with sound-deadening material.

All the Condor Rangehoods have an air movement from 450 cubic metres to 2700 cubic metres per hour except for the Tanami which has a maximum of 3600 cubic metres per hour.

Lights are LED Strip Type and each light is 6.7 watts

The filters can be washed in a dishwashing machine.

The Condor Rangehoods can be ordered with remote switching and for this the coding has an R after the model – eg. BAL1200L-3R

These models come with 3 metres of cable and extra length can be specified when ordering.

We do not supply a switch as it is necessary to install an approved switch bank.

The Condor Rangehoods – Balitimore and Boston come top ducted and can be reversed on site by the installer.

The pictures show the top and back ducted situations and the instructions explain how to reverse them if required.

Condor Rangehoods are now insulated with Megasorber FM acoustic foam utilizing a patented sound absorbing facing material “Soundmesh G8” to provide maximum sound absorption.

Key Benefits with Megasorber are as follows:

1. Reduces air-borne sound very effectively. 2. Reduces potential fire hazard with fireproof acoustic facing and non-combustible foam. 3. Water/Fluid repellent GB facing for easy cleaning and maintenance.

As shown the material is cut to size for installation in all our Condor Rangehoods which results in little noise when the rangehood is operating at maximum air flow.

Megasorber is manufactured in Australia and is the Registered Trade Mark of Megasorber Pty Ltd.
