2 Functional specifications

With this Alfanet PC-Software Program it is possible to control, readout, set or load log data from theconnected ALFANET - units by the PC. This is only possible by connecting te PC to a ALFANET PC-INTERFACE (With display (2e-gen.) of without display (1ste-gen.)).The program for the communication from the PC to the Interface works with MS Windows 95/98/2000 ®.

3 Program

3.1 Installation

RS 232 interface:

Place the CD-ROM with the PC-Software in the CD-player. The installation-procedure will startautomatically. Follow the instructions during the installation.

USB interface:

When you use a USB interface, you have to install the drivers first. See the manual from theinterface (doc. # 021865). If the Alfanet program is installed before installing the drivers, therecould cause problems.

3.2 Starting of the program

Select the Windows start button and choose: Programs/Alfanet.Before you can work with the program you have to report yourself to the program. Directly after the installation there is only one user available for the program sc. “Admin” and thepassword for this user is “Wachtwoord”. ATTENTION! The use of capitals and small letters makes a difference.

The program starts the first time with an empty screen and on top of this screen is a button-bar;

The functions of the buttons are successively:- End : Leave the program.- Configuration : Start the configuration screen.- Tools on/off : Show or hide the tool menu.

- Show alarm : Show the most recent alarm signals. - Modem connection : Make a modem connection.- Show network activity : Show the diagram with a number of received bytes per second.- Picture on(load)/off : Set picture off or load a new picture and install this as background.

- Sign in/out : Sign a user in or out.- User management : For managing user.

- Export : Exporting of log-data.- About : About program.

The alarm button starts flashing when an alarm message is received from a panel. The button stops flashing when the alarms are acknowledged with the button Show alarm .

After a few moments, all connected panels appear on the screen. If this does not happen, open thenetwork activity window and check the red transmitter lamp. If this red lamp blinks and the greenlamp doesn’t blink, go to the configuration window paragraph.

3.3 Panel control

3.3.1 Position of the panel

At first all panels are positioned on top of each other. They can be moved by mouse clicking on the panel, holdthe mouse button and drag the panel to it’s new location. The under laying panel is now visible and can also bedragged to a new location. The program rememberswhere the panels are located, so when you start theprogram again, the panels are on the same spot as wherethey were when the program was closed. If you havepanels which are reducible (such as MC controllers) you have to position the normal and thereduced picture on the right spot. There is only one panel active, to activate a panel mouse-click in it. The frame of the active panel turns yellow to indicate the active panel. Only theactive panel can be operated.

3.3.2 Normal functions of the panel

The control of the buttons on the panel are equal to the control of the real panel (includingbutton delays). For the function of these buttons see the manual of the panel.Remark: For pushing two keys simultaneously the following procedure must be followed;First press the ‘Shift’ key on the keyboard and hold it pressed. Than press first key by mouseclicking it while holding the ‘Shift’ key. If the first key (by mouse click) is released, this key willstay pressed, now it is possible to mouse click the second key. The selected function will beactivated now. F.i.: Shift + SET + UP to increase the setpoint value. Note: It is not possible two press more than two key simultaneously.

3.3.3 Extra functions of the network panel

By clicking the right hand mouse button (context menu) in the panel, the panel menu isopened. For the active panel these functions are also available through the tool menu. In thenext paragraphs the different functions are explained.

3.3.3.1 Changing the name (ID) of the panel

After selecting this menu option a dialogue window appears. In this windowyou can type the name of the panel. This name will be stored between thedifferent sessions and the name will be used in the header of the printout.

3.3.3.2 Showing log data

See paragraph 3.5 for a description of the log window.

3.3.3.3 Printing log data

With this function you can select a desired period of log data to be printedin table form. At first you see a selection window for filling in the start dateand the end date. After validation of these dates you can select a printer, after which the number of sessions can be determined. When one of these selection windows is cancelled, the printing is stopped.

3.3.3.4 Automatic logging on or off

If the Alfa is not provided with a realtime clock, it is still possible to log onthe PC, provided the PC is active. By choosing this function now all the logdata sent from the Alfa’s are stored into the log file. This action happenswith the log interval time. As the PC program is not active the interface will

store these messages into it’s buffer. As soon as the PC program is startedall log data of the interface will be sent to the PC. When the interface bufferis full, the oldest data will be erased. The maximum time limit for storinglog data into the interface can be calculated by:

1e. Gen. PC-INTERFACE (No Display): T=X * 1000. 2e. Gen. PC-INTERFACE (Display): T=X * 30.000. 2e. Gen. PC-INTERFACE (Display + ext. mem.): T=X * 60.000.

At this X is the Log-interval-time / number of alfa’s.As the Alfa’s have different log-interval-times the calculation becomesmore complex.

3.3.3.5 Logging of the Alfa’s on or off

If the Alfa is provided with a realtime clock, there is an option to have theAlfa send separate log messages with date and time. This function is onlyvalid in combination with the first generation interface.

3.3.3.6 Setting of the log interval time

Selecting this function will show a scroll bar for setting the interval time. The minimum interval time is 1 minute and the maximum interval time is 2hours. Above the scroll bar appears the chosen interval time.

3.3.3.7 Viewing and changing the parameters

With this function youcan view theparameters of theactive panel and evenprint them. Theparameters are sortedin the same menustructure as realpanel. Depending onthe chosen optionssome parameters areavailable and othersare not. Theparameter windowlooks as follows;

By pressing the Printbutton you can printout an overview ofthe parameters.

By double clicking themouse on a parameter, or by pressing the enter key, a parameter can bechanged. At closing the parameter window the changed settings are send tothe Alfa.

It also possible to save the setting to disk with the Save button and later onload them again into the window with the Load button. With this option it isalso possible to copy the settings of one Alfa to another Alfa.

By pressing the Undo button the made changes are set back to the originalsettings when entering this function. This can only be done as long as thechanges are not send to the controllers.

3.3.3.8 Changing the layout of a panel

With this function you can change the layout of an Alfa on the screen. This only works with the Alfa 5-series, 6-series and 7-series. It does notwork on the Alfa 3x series.

3.3.3.9 Collecting Log data periodically

With this function you can collect log data periodically to the computer, ifthe controller has his own log memory. The log interval time can be set foreach controller.

3.4 The configuration window

Within the configuration window you can change global settings of the program and control severalnetwork functions (See figures mentioned below).

Behind the first tab control (Panels) is a list of all Alfa’s connected to the network. New panels willbe added automatically, but must be removed manually (with the Delete button).By pressing the Identification button the network is scanned to find out which panels are connectedto the network. New panels found on the network will be added to the list automatically.By pressing the Sync. Time button all panels with realtime clock will be set to the PC time. The check box Report error is used to select controllers which must print error messagesautomatically or send these error messages to another PC. See paragraph 3.10 for these settings.

The second tab control is for communication settings. In the selection list of Com. port you can choose the communication port on which the network isconnected to the PC. When set to the wrong communication port the program will not receive anydata. Check in case of trouble first the connector and the communication port.

Then a modem must be selected. Before you can select the modem it must first be installed inWindows®. We advise to use an analogue modem and not an ISDN modem. ISDN modems cancause several problems. VDH Products can not give support for these problems. In most casesthere’s only one modem available, then only this modem is selectable. With the Configure buttonthe Windows® modem configuration can be activated.Next the number of call-rings can be set before the program answers the telephone.

Note: When a modem is connected directly to the interface the call is always answered afterthree times.

In the field Configurations it is possible to use configuration names. This is needed forcommunicating with a modem. When the program is started for the first time, there are noconfiguration names in the list and the program will ask for a configuration name. At making connection between two PC’s, the network PC will send it’s configuration name to theremote PC. The remote PC checks if this configuration already exists, of not than thisconfiguration is added. And the remote PC switches to this configuration. After sending theconfiguration, the information of the connected panels is send over with their positions andname’s. Now the communication channel is free for sending and receiving data for the controllers. The log data of the controllers will be stored per configuration in a separate folder. As a connection is made thru a modem which is connected directly to a PC-interface, first thecorrect configuration must be selected by hand to prevent misinterpretation of the data.

Another raison for having configurations is the fact that the configuration name will be send overwhen error messages are send over automatically to an remote PC, see alarm window ofparagraph 3.10.

The third tab control contains the log settings for automatic logging. With the option get log automatic selected, the PC automatically starts loading the log of thepanels provided with internal log memory, 24 hours before the buffer is really full. This option isnot available for panels without internal log memory.

Further there is an option to printout all new log data of all panels, printout the graph or just asummary printout. On the summery the minium-, maximum- and mean value of each sensor of acertain period of time is printed. The function of the button Configure is to select the panels andthe sensors values from the panels (see 3.4.1) The printing starts on the given time “Start printafter”. Be aware: this is the real time. If you enter 8:00, the printing will start at 8 o’clock in themorning. Before printing data, the printer must be selected (On printer).

For printing a graph the settings from the log-window (see par. 3.5) will be taken over. For eachpanel it is possible to select the sensors, outputs and the temperature range. The selected periodwill by printed out on one page as it is shorter or equal than one week. Longer periods will byprinted out with each week on one page.

The next tab control contains the general settings. The first option is a language setting, the program searches automatically for the installedlanguage modules and let you make a selection from it. The changes have immediate effect onyour screen. The second option is the time setting for a user to be checked out. Finally a gridlayout can be chosen to align the panels horizontally and vertically.

The last tab control shows which modules the software is capable to control.

By pressing the Cancel button the changes made will be reversed.

The removal of panels and adjusting the time is irreversible. When a panel is removed bymistake it can be found again by pressing the identification button, however all made settings forthe panel are lost.

3.4.1 Setting the automatic printing

Select a panel out of the left column in the window and with the selection box Printing allowed youcan allow the panel to be printed in the summary. From the right column the sensor for printingcan be selected. The buttons All or None will select all or none sensor(s) for printing.

3.5 The log window

The log diagram has a minimum time scale of one day and a maximum time scale of one week. The window contains two selection tables. The first table contains the available values and thesecond one contains the selected values. With the arrow button left and right you can move valuesfrom one table to the other table. When a value is set to the right-hand table, the data is showndirectly into the diagram. The selected values will be stored per panel, between the differentsessions.

By dragging a selection frame (holding the left mouse button while dragging) around an array ofthe diagram, this section will be enlarged. By right clicking the mouse in the diagram, the wholediagram is shown.

The log function has three strategies to show data on the same time coordinates:1) maximum value, 2) minimum value or 3) average value.

You can select a strategy with the most right selection list.

On the button bar you can successively close the log window, print out the diagram, change theperiod, zoom out to maximum size and change settings.

In the settings window you can select the date from which you want to view the log data. The timescale calculates back from this date.

In the settings window you can rename the sensors and outputs like “Control sensor 1" becomese.g.: “Patisserie suction”. Attention! Each sensor must have a unique name per panel. So you can use the same name, e.g. “Humidity” on different panels.

Within this window you can also choose the colour printed on the diagram for each sensor with thebutton Change colour. Also the temperature range on the vertical ax can be set here.

The settings will be stored per panel, however the definition of the colours for each panel is thesame.
