Sent by email or RSS feed - weekly or monthly
Different kinds: Table of Contents Search Alert Citation Alert
Purpose: tells you when new journal articles are published in your research area.
How to set up an Alert
1. Sign up for a personal account.
2. Choose a search statement which gives “good” results. Save this search as an email alert.
OR
Choose an RSS reader. Enter file address of your search statement.

Set up a search statement and save it as an alert. Choose how often it’s sent to you.
You need a search statement on your topic
OR joins similar terms; enclose them in ( )
or more terms ? broaden search, more results
AND joins different concepts or subjects
add more subjects ? focus search
* different endings of root word (wild card)
boat* boat, boats, boating, boater etc.
