At Sunnyvale ISD, we are proud to partner with our outstanding community. We consid-er the strength of this partnership the most valuable asset in the education of your children. The strong ties between SISD and our parents, community groups, volunteers and local businesses are critical to our success. That’s why annually, we produce the Community Report, which showcases the accomplishments of our students during the previous year as a measure of accountability for you, our community.

Throughout the report, you’ll see the proof of what our students do best - learn, problem-solve, create and perform. We evaluate our students holistically, using more than a standardized test score to measure their performance. We evaluate students for who they are - and they are much more than just a score.

Plans for the FutureLast spring, as a proactive blueprint for our district’s future, the Board of Trustees established a Strategic Planning Team. This team, made up of community members, town leaders, teachers and administrators, is charged with setting goals and priorities for the next several years for SISD.

From the initial planning sessions, a new SISD mission and vision statement were developed:

Mission Statement: The mission of Sunnyvale ISD is to engage, equip and empower all learners for life-long success.

Vision Statement: Sunnyvale Raiders Rise!

Six objectives will be the focus of Strategic Planning action teams1. Teaching and Learning2. Staff Quality and Recruitment3. Innovation and Future-Readiness4. Wellness5. Funding, Finance and Facilities6. Community Partnership

During the planning, our team compiled strengths of our district. One person shared that she felt that our community trusts our district. We are extremely grateful for the trust you extend to SISD. For this reason, we will continue to do the best work we can to engage, equip and empower the students of Sunnyvale.

Sunnyvale ISD earned an “Exceeds Expectations” on its Community Based Accountability Rating for the 2017-2018 school year. The CBAR is the evaluation tool for SISD. It was created with the intention of accurately reporting to the community what Sunnyvale students are achieving regularly - from academic progress and future-readiness, to their extracurricular endeavors and even parental and community involvement. While the report does take into consideration STAAR scores, it measures much more - including SAT and ACT scores, fine arts participation, the development of 21st-century skills and workforce development. The CBAR was created by a team of SISD administrators, teachers, parents and community members. The data gained from the CBAR is used to help SISD grow and improve; district administrators utilize scores to help create district and campus goals and priorities. The CBAR is available at www.sunnyvaleisd.com.

MAP Growth uses a RIT (Rausch Unit Scale) scale to accurately measure what students know including skills above and below grade level. It also measures growth over time, allowing parents to track their child’s progress throughout the school year and across multiple years. Once their child completes a MAP Growth test, they receive a RIT score. (NWEA)

Average SAT Scores and ACT Scores• Sunnyvale ISD received a Superior rating from the Texas Education Agency on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) rating. The rating evaluates how Texas schools manage their financial resources to provide maximum resources for instructional purposes. The district has received a Superior rating every year the system has been in place.

• Per student expenditures have decreased by $740 per student since the 2011 fiscal year. The reduction in expenditure per student can be attributed to keeping administrative and overhead expenses low while our student population has grown. This has been accomplished while the district continues to provide exemplary education for the students and outstanding programs and activities.

• The SISD’s audited fund balance was $4.71 million at the end of the August, 2017. This represents 3.89 months of operating expenses. State guidelines recommend school districts maintain three months of operating expenses in their fund balance.

• The Board of Trustees formed a Security and Safety Task Force made up of district officials, law enforcement officers, and community members. The Task Force determined SISD facilities to be overall safe but made recommendations to the Board to further enhance building and student safety. SISD has already begun implementing these recommendations.

• Construction projects from the Series 2017 bonds are underway and expected to be completed on schedule. • Phase 1 includes stadium and fieldhouse expansion and construction of a new high school dining hall. This phase was completed in August 2018. • One feature of Phase 2 will be conversion of the existing high school cafetorium into an auditorium. This work is slated for a December 2018 completion. • Phase 2 will also feature construction of Sunnyvale Intermediate School for students in Grades 3 - 5 and expansion of Sunnyvale High School. Both of these projects will be finished during the summer of 2019 and open for student use that August.

The SISD Teacher Profile is a statement of SISD’s vision and expectations for our campus educators. Designed as a companion piece for the SISD Graduate Profile (which showcases our goals for our students’ future readiness), the Teacher Profile was a collaborative project. Students on each of the campus action teams added their voice on the attributes of great teachers. The SISD faculty spent time in professional development contributing to the piece, as well. Parents and community members also offered insight on the profile.

Students named three distinctions of great teachers for the profile: connecting with students, encouraging students and inspiring students. The

Teacher Profile features testimonies from students across the district about their favorite teachers and also highlights the district’s innovative learning spaces found throughout SISD facilities.
