album cover work

La Roux: The harsh red colours of the foreground and background make the crisp white heading stand out to an audience and the mise-en-scene created by these dark colours is quite mysterious, and the thought of the unknown. The brightness on the facial features, however, add a sense of innocence to the cover and therefore contrast the dark colours. Snow Patrol : The choice of plain, subtle colours suggest a relaxed theme for the album, however, the blues could also suggest cold- connoting sadness. Therefore, the album leaves the interpretation of what it meant to the audience. Also, the abstract images suggest how confusing life can be and how difficult things can be to grasp hold of. The Fray: The centrepiece of the album (broken light bulb) connotes a loss in hope and could therefore portray the main meaning of the album- the idea was there and then shattered by a negative. Contrasting this however, is the fact that the there are still shining lights within the bulb- connoting that hope is still there, you just need to look deep enough and find the silver lining. The neutral colours add to these ideas. Paramore: The title “Riot” is boldly the main focus for the album, as it is spread out entirely over it. This could symbolise the connotations for an actual riot- large crowds, small spaces and crushed surroundings. The bright orange word “Riot” adds texture to the cover and makes it stand out more. Moreover, the colours used (black and white) suggest and old fashioned theme to the album.

Snow Patrol: The choice of plain, subtle colours suggest a relaxed theme for the album, however, the blues could also suggest cold- connoting sadness.
