Albert’s Secret Formula:
Formula
Albert’s Insomnia is an elegant, engaging, simple, fun game that improves math reasoning. Check out the following attributes that make Albert’s Insomnia the game students and teachers Count On:
Attributes
1) The game automatically tiers instruction. The game starts off very easy, so even the math-reluctant students enjoy success and become fully engaged in playing, while motivating them to stay in the game and win, as the game gradually becomes more challenging.

Attributes
3) Creates Critical and Creative Thinking Opportunities and Challenges
4) The game is differentiated, so teachers from all disciplines (Gifted & Talented to Special Education) find it effective.
5) Improves Mental Math and Concentration Skills
6) Intuitively teaches factoring, order of operations, number sense, and so much more!
Attributes
Albert is ready for school! Teachers love Albert’s Classroom Kits. The kit includes 4 games, 4 score pads, professional lesson plans (K-2, 3-5, and 6-8), and a copy of Albert’s book, A True Math Story. These kits are an incredible value!

Electronic Resource Program or ERP
Albert’s ERP is an online version designed for use in formal education settings. The ERP is loaded with awesome assessment features that allow a simple game to serve as a live dashboard for math progress of an entire school or school system!
The ERP even shows a graph for administrators that plots average class scores over time (Sample graph on the next slide.) This feature allows effective, immediate utilization of the school’s additional resources (math coaches, para-pros, etc.) where they are needed most. A great tool for teacher evaluations!

The first day of school, kids could play the game for fifteen minutes, and the teacher will know which students need the most help, before any test is ever taken. The ERP statistics section for the teachers draws on the data base and shows students by rank and score (and changes in rank and score every time they play).
My favorite part!
The ERP also has a built-in competition mode! Albert’s Insomnia math bees could be modeled similarly to how spelling bees have been used for the last 50+ years. These competitions could be school-wide, county-wide, state-wide, or even WORLD-WIDE!
Products
In time, the competitions will prove to be a valuable fundraising tool for schools, and better still, the competitions will serve as their own marketing campaign, helping create more competitions, better prizes and make fundraising even easier with sponsors.
Unique Properties
What is unique about Albert’s Insomnia?
There are many math products out there that call themselves games, but in truth, they are math activities, not games.
This distinction has profound and enormous implications for the level of engagement and participation of the students!
Unique Properties
Teachers tell us they are using our ten framed, subitized cards for all their classroom card games and even use them as flash cards. Since the decks of Albert’s Insomnia have 4 suits of cards, numbered 1-12, students can play almost any card game with these decks, and it does not look like the students are gambling or playing poker.
Unique Properties
With playing cards:• Teachers throw away 35% of the cards (aces,
jokers, jacks, queens, and kings).• Teachers then have to make cards so they have
1s, 11s and 12s. • Card decks are confusing for kids because they
are not correctly subitized. Flashcards:• Are archaic, expensive, and most of all, NOT
FUN! The only students that like flash cards already know the answers!
Unique Properties
RJB3 Games even has a completely different game designed that is perfectly geared for middle school markets. This new game will also plug right into the same ERP backend dashboard! This new game engine is still Top Secret until the intellectual property work is completed.

Pipeline
Let’s Play! Pretend we are shepherds, but not very good shepherds, we lost all of our sheep. Let’s go find them together and take turns counting them. Use these cards to find them! Albert’s only rule is each card may only be used once per target (turn.)
Play
I’ll go first - = 1
Your turn. Can you create any operation with the cards below that equals 2?
Play
My turn! - = 3
Can you make an equation that equals 4?
Play
5=? 9=? 13=?6=? 10=? 14=?7=? 11=? 15=?8=? 12=? 16=?
Can we find all of these?
Play
The game starts off very easy, intentionally, to get everyone engaged in the “play”, taking turns, competing, etc. to “hook” even the most reluctant math students. Let’s keep going!
Play
Since players don’t know where the game will end, the “high school rule” is: the last player to use an exponent or factorial in their answer is the winner. Allow more time for this version; the flocks get very large!
Conclusion
But my kids don’t know how to multiply and divide? To play with little lambs, not multiplying and dividing yet, deal out 5 or 6 cards. The game still works the same, giving all the critical and creative thinking skills opportunities as before. The game can help teach K-2 students learn to take multiple steps to solve a problem while learning and discovering math is fun!
Conclusion
Let’s see how high we can go!
17=? 20=? 23=? 26=? 18=? 21=? 24=? 27=?19=? 22=? 25=? 28=? 29=?
Who is going to win?
Play
Everybody wins!
• Students learn and have fun. • Teachers completely engage students.
• Albert’s price tag is easy on the budget!
FACT FLUENCY is the GATEWAY and FOUNDATION to EVERY students successful math career!
