The justications or ecodesign research conducted, beyond thepreviously targeted, have been prepared or multiple aspects thatrefect the current situation surrounding the prevention o waste bydierent social actors.

Similarly, the attempt by CLD Group to improve itsel, helping tostrengthen and creating conducive conditions to allow the transi-tion to a sustainable development, has reerences and key tools tomove eectively rom theory to practice.

Once the analysis phase is nished, the next phase is design. The rst step was to generate dierent ideas, portrait robot to see wherethe nal model could be directed to. Encompassing all types o trolley thathad been seen so ar in the analysis phase, there were nally outlined somepreliminary models that tried to capture all this, and were suitable according

the client preerences.

Development o early concepts

• Dematerialisation: 5 kg less than the previous model.

• Multiunction:Forecast o uture scenarios or theseparation o waste, litter, etc.

• Monomaterials

100% recyclable: Steel, Rubber, PP. Using100% recycled materials: 2 / 3 o its weight:ABS: housing, PS Cover,Rubber: Tires

• 73% more ecient in the ProductionPhase than the old trolley accordingto Eco-Indicator 99 methodology

• Ease and speed o assembly in assemblyworkshops.

• Reduction in weight (5 kg) and volumerespect to the previous CLD model.

• All suppliers and manufacturers are

within a 30 km area, includingthe area where the trolley will operate

in Barcelona city.• Durability estimated at more than8 years without anymaintenance remarkable.

• Modular, scalable and adaptable

to emerging needs: autumn leaves, etc.• Easy dismantling o its components and ully

recyclable with local inrastructure and labelingmaterials.

The trolley is prepared or selective collecting, incorporating two gar-bage bags instead o one.

Along with the environmental assessment team, an array VEA wasconducted to compare inter-and qualitative manner, the environmen-tal improvements made to the new version o the car under ecodesigncriteria, on the old version o the company ollowing criteria or con-tinuous improvement.

THE SPANISH MULTIDISCIPLINARYTEAM ESDI - RUCKERLYPSA,PARTICIPATES IN THE 47TH INTERNATIONAL NAUTICSHOW IN BARCELONA, WHICHWILL TAKE PLACE FROM 8TO 16 NOVEMBER 2008.

Autonomous transoceanic Sailboat 2008 - 2009

Modeling and Rendering. Collaborationbetween Ruckerlypsa andESDi university product department.

The design o the ship is ree, withthe only constraint o a maximumlength o 4 meters and the act obeing propelled by the wind. Go-verned by a small microprocessor,is able to cope with 4,000 miles o

navigation. In the sea the straightline is not always the quickest wayand the little electronic brain willhave to evaluate the possible wea-ther conditions to get the appro-priate courses independently andaster, all with any human inter-vention.

Beore leaving, each team mustchoose a eld o 50 kilometers indiameter along the line xed, in theCaribbean.Between 40 and 60 daysare estimated to complete the race.It wins the boat which crosses the

Atlantic and reaches the nish linein the shortest time. To do so it willhave to ace storms, winds o over50 knots, tropical storms and evenhurricanes common in latitudesclose to Ecuador.

Virtual rendering of the sailboat

in a race atmosphere

Ater the success o the Barcelona World Race, a

milestone in Spanish ocean sailing, this newdrat o autonomous sailboat will be an interestingopportunity that will give impetus to Spain wellahead o the technology in the eld o sailing. The strength o the hull materials is vital.A boat o this length is likely to suerrepeated twists and shocks o waves due tothe weather. Like its elder brothers rom theWorld Race, this sailboat will use high-techmaterials, such as carbon and kevlar.

To create a machine that can successully overcomethe Atlantic crossing, the hull’s design is as important as

the sail plan, its appendices, the programmingand the systems which he is endowed with. The ship will be completely sel-sucient, covered withphotovoltaic panels, and with a power consumptionthat would allow the sailing or years withoutneed to reuel, driven only by the orceobtained through wind and solar energy. It will be equiped with anti-collision devices, ullling the RIPA rules, such as a radar refector andAIS issuer.

Thus, it might be seen by mannedvessels. The GPS will act like the “eyes” o the vessel, andground communications shall be eectedthrough asatellite modem. The position o the ships participating the race may becontrolled thanks to the issue that every ship emitsevery 24 hours and can be accessed in themicrotransat’s website.

Play is the main activity o childhood, when childrendo not hesitate in using all the time available or it.Game is an impulse that pushes us todiscover, manipulate, observe and interpret the worldaround us. Playing we nd riends, learnto relate to others, exercise ourskills and abilities and venture to takerisks that help us grow and learn whatwe have around us.The point is to make young people attentive toentire world which is closely linkedto the natural and technical environtment,Thus, we have to develop the science observation, the “knowhow”, and above all, “sympathize“ with the planet. The world around us is changing, this is obvious.Fossil uels will be depleted within a ew hundred years, and the only viable way in an immediate uturewill be alternative energies.A didactics in this sense is thereore necessary;practically saying that it is morallyrequired in today’s society. To love our planet we have to know it rstly, we can not act ina cooperative way i we do not begin to understand and love

it when being a child. The game, thereore, can be an excellent way or amore sustainable uture.

Taurus Dueto Classic is a small and compact

drip coee maker.

The process o making a cup o coee isdesigned to be understandable, clear andlegible or the user. The coee pot has twoovertures above, one to spill the water andthe other or depositing the ground coee.

Once spilt, the water circulates ownwardsalong the resistance and warms up, risingtowards the top part o the coee pot. Thediuser placed in cover, drops the wateralready turned into steam inside the lter, being mixed by the ground coee, and allsdown through the mouthpiece towards both

cups.

The shapes o the coee pot are roundedand send us to the idea o the hourglass dueto synthetic unctioning and aspect.

Taurus classic Dueto classic is a redesign oits predecesor. Its compactness in puttingup the cups and the mechanism to roll thecable allow the user to guard it without in-convenience.

To achieve the ultimate goal that indi-cates each tab, you must answer thequestions correctly, selecting the an-swer that you guess its the correct oneand acing the arrow sign o each cylin-der to corresponding answer, A, B or C.

THE WATER WILL GIVE YOU THE ANSWER

PipeQuest comprises a main rame, which holds the rotating 9 modules, with a series o perorations in theorm o inner tubes. These tubes areconnected with the rotary modules letting the water fow only in certainpositions, and obstructing their passa-ge into the remainder. At the bottom,3 vessels that receive water rom thepipes.

Furthermore, the game includes 4questionnaires related to water and

various aspects connected to its use:The water cycle, recycling, domesticuse and aims to encourage childrenwith concepts such as water use andits importance in the uture.

We could consider PipeQuest as a toythat promotes Ecodesign because it isdesigned to be produce d with mate-rials such as PET recyclable.

PipeQuest is designed to be manuactured with recycled PET, amaterial that provides environmental and mechanical qualities otransparency and good eect. The transparent housing is made otwo main halves o transparent PET Injected and are joined by heatsealing.Other parts such as the laterals, the base or the cups aremade o polyethylene too.

The prototype is done mostly with methacrylate and polyethylene. The main rame consists o two methacrylateplates o 2 cm thick, pierced by laser cutting and drilling holes, and glued to the spine plates with super glue 3.

The rotating parts result rom the peroration o the main plates, each consisting o two cylinders drilled and gluedtogether. With a single cutting operation, we obtain both the main plate and the rotating parts.

The upper basin is made o transparent polystyrene 2 mm thick and the sidewalls, polyethylene thermoormedand then painted with lacquer in Sprain.

The base is made o a plate 2.5 mm thick and olded by means o a wooden mold and the heat gun. Finally, the cupscome rom larger polystyrene cups, trimmed and painted wi th lacquer that same side.

The innovation proposed by this lamp lies in its versatile telescopicmechanism o olding and unolding.

Applied to a lamp, this mechanism can generate various qualities olight, color and opacity according to the set o pieces that light mustshine into.

The pieces are placed one insi de the other and thanks to a w edge thatstands out at the end o every piece, they circulate ollowing the gene-ratrix o the cylinder, being xed when they reach their end.

X10SIBLE increases considerably in size rom the total bending posi-tion. Accessories: Accessory or hanging on the wall, and wiring orsuspension.

Prototype made with polypropylene plate (Plakene) rom 0.4 mm othickness.

In our current society we live

in a stressing world where we do

not have time to relax, to devote

to the people we love or even to

ourselves, to travel or enjoy the

small pleasures of life. We waste

all this time without being really

aware of it. Is it a consequence of

our society that we can not rea-

lly full our dreams and wishes

nowadays?

If it does not allow us to nd a

gap to feel uninhibited, why don’t

we create a space where everyone

can feel so? “Wherever” is a spa-

ce that allows users to anticipate

new desires and necessities. Who

would not want to arrive home at

10 p.m., open the door and nd

themselves in paradise? “Where-

ver” proposes a fo

rmula that combines INNOVATION,

TECHNOLOGY, AROMATHERAPY,

MUSICTHERAPY and COLOUR THE-

RAPY resulting in WELL-BEING,

COMFORT, PLEASURE and FUN for

all bathroom users, from the ol-

dest to the youngest. The inno-

vation can be appreciated in the

new sinuous shapes, very pleasant

to the touch and to the eye, as

well as in the new applications

that we offer in the bathrooms x-

tures. Some examples of this are

the attachment of the mirror and

a set of accessories to the wash-

basin, the addition of a magazine

holder to the toilet bowl and the

union of the latter to the bidet, o r

the union of the bathtub and the

shower with a space for towels

and other types of accessories

in the broader sense of the term.

Graphite pencils being a relatively

of artistic development for stu-

The prototyping phase should be compulsory at least in the process o design.Whether to get an idea o the volume is designed in a preliminary phase, to veriythe unctioning o the piece or to show the customer during the product presentation, execution o models is an essential step to complement the other design phases. Moreover, the act and experience o working with his hands is a unique eeling.

Cemetery’s Morgue o Montjuïc (Barcelona)

This morgue is designed to be acility or public use, owned and managed by Funeral Services o Barcelona. The building is locatednext to the northern access o the Montjuic cemetery bordering a concave portion along the “Passeig del Migdia” and heading tothe cemetery ence. On the west side there is the current parking area o the cemetery and in the middle east the vegetation coversthe topography. The morgue is placed right next to the cemetery to establish a close connection with it, where access to the ceme-tery and parking is a common space that connects the three characters (morgue, cemetery and parking).

The complex is built on a courtyard that separates and organizes the 4 main areas: The chapel o rest, the chapel, caeteria andadministration rooms. Thus the passage between the two areas always makes through this central space that acts as a nucleus. The rest chapels are grouped linearly, terraced to a longitudinal open porch, and lit by courtyards (Fig.1). The oratory, a place oworship, is higher than the rest o the buildings. To access it people has to cross a wooden ootbridge (Fig.3). The only possibleview rom the inside to the exterior is the sky.

Virtual view rom the main entrance o the pavilion.

Virtual view inside the complex, with the courtyard as a protagonist.

The construction process o the building begins with the placement o thepillars and the mesh oundations. Once we have completed this processthe next step is the placement o the 18 pillars that support the pavili on.

At the same time you install the whole structure and nish the courtyardplacing the vertical strips that will close the building and the entrance, aswell as the doors and the windows.

With the oundations already installed we proceed to the installation othe structural mesh. It is transported on-site in plates o 3x3 meters ma-nuactured at the workshop. Once there, the mesh is set up completelyor distributed modules.

Aterwards the mesh knots are xed into the arms o the pillars throughthreaded unions giving the nal shape to the pavilion.

Multi-purpose Pavilion 2009

The structure o this multipurpose pavilion comprises two elements: Astructural wood mesh and pillar. The mesh structure is both skin andsupport o the building. The mesh is stretched through articulatedunions when reaching the ground and through articulated arms thatgive height and shapes the building.

We love objects and gadgets. We are surrounded by everydayproducts, unctional and artiacts as a way to express ouridentity.

But shouldn’t we be relied upon as problem solvers in timeso crisis?

Sure, the design is here to solve problems in an optimisticway. I believe that design has a lot o input into the social andenvironmental context through an emotional education.
