We need to look very closely at our building situation. The infrastructure is breaking down and will costmoney to repair, we are spending way too much money on heating, cooling and electricity and the space

is not necessarily conducive to 21st century teaching and learning. Also, we are or will be eligible soonfor state matching funds to repair and/or replace our buildings. We need to look at the financial andeducational pros and cons of continued maintenance vs consolidation/upgrades vs new construction. Todo this we need to continue to engage the community, work with the consulting firms and solicit feedbackfrom current staff and even students.

I would also like to learn more about the cause of the drop off in academic achievement scores seen atthe middle school. Why are our students doing so well in the high school and 3-5 but not so well inbetween. How much better could they be doing in high school if they didn't have that short setback in

middle school. I understand that this issue is currently being investigated, I would use my time on theboard to assist and push for the investigation to continue to move forward.

Additionally, evidence demonstrating that educational success is strongly tied to experiences in the earlyyears is compelling. Therefore, I want to explore how we can develop programs for k-2 that will enhancethe ability of our students to be successful and ultimately competitive as they get older.

16.Whether for past accomplishments or future goals, why should voters elect you?

My work experience provides a strong background for evaluating educational initiatives. Current work atOberlin College involves both evaluating where education is going and developing plans for how to bestimplement practices that are shown to enhance learning, provide appropriate opportunities for studentsand assist in producing well rounded citizens. Planning for the use of new technologies and techniquesinvolves both evaluating the educational value and developing plans for managing and deploying staffand funds. Again, my experience in technology and education at Oberlin College provides a strongbackground for developing such plans.

I am also very dedicated to this community and want do what is best to balance educational value withcost to the community member. I've learned much about the community and what it values through livinghere, being part of the PTO, coaching rec soccer for 3 years and becoming familiar with FAVA, OECC,Kendal Early Childhood Center, Community Music Schools, OCS and other organizations thatsupplement what is being done in our schools.

Oberlin is a great community with many voices. I have demonstrated that I can be a responsible andthoughtful in my process and would bring that approach to the board.
