Albert Jankus, 97, Mandan, died May 28, 2019 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center.

Albert was born March 31, 1922 in rural Mandan at the original homestead of John and Amelia (Schiller) Jankus. He attended Lyon’s School through the eighth grade. Albert, the fifth and last child born to John and Amelia was a task-oriented youth as he focused on the challenges of family farming while leaving time to enjoy his

close childhood friends. He continued a life long dedication to the family homestead and through self-teaching, developed the skills needed to fix nearly anything that may have presented a challenge.

Albert dedicated much energy and effort to the care of his mother throughout her life. He also kept the family home as a constant in the lives of his older siblings. Albert is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Henry Jankus; and sisters Tillie Jankus, Ann Dickerson and Helen Bunker.

Blessed beyond description in today’s world are his survivors; niece, Sue (John) Gormley, Grand Junction, CO; nephew Don (Gerri) Dickerson, Kerrville, TX; the Syvrud family who have been loyal and life-long friends.

The family extends its gratitude and thanks to Linda Suchy, her family and the congregation at Heart River Lutheran Church for their many years of support and love to Albert.
