"He will swallow up death for all time,And the Lord God will wipe tears away from all faces."

Isaiah 25:8

The fourth of July was going to be a day of rest with the family, I hadtold Cheryl"~the week before, but the unpredictable happened, a,death in .theXiilage. The newborn son of Sichilima had died of what they called aheart attack. — —ir;.-:-—-

Picking up a few boards and nails for a coffin (a baby is so tiny),I set off for the village. Arriving, I found about 100 people sitting aroundthe house, separated into age groups with the men on one side of the house, women on the other and the family with the dead child in the house.

"You are suffering", I greeted the family and neighbors. Inside thehouse I was happy to find the Christians in a group on the mud floor singinghymns and encouraging the parents. We sat together for a long time as weawaited the men who were preparing the small coffin; people entered the littlehouse in a steady stream, some weeping and mourning.

Finally the men returned and the tiny body was laid in the box. One ofthe new Christians nailed the lid on as his silent tears stained the roughbox. The mother of the child fell down over the box weeping for the childwho had been hers for such a short time; then we carried the coffin to thecemetary just—outside-the village. - -

^ "^e-vi-ctayy^of the day came when the child's father, one of the Christians, stood over the grave of his little child and read from I. Corinthians 15:51-58and gave testimony to all those present, most of whom were not Christians,of the victory. oyer death w.e^have in Christ. He-.i:.old them not to weep tooloudly, the child was with his Father in Heaven.

The mourners, according to custom, have been visiting the home for thelast few weeks, and this will continue until all the family and friends fromall over the area have paid their respects to the family. But I am confidentthat even in such a sad event, the Gospel of Christ is being preached. Werejoice in this victory over death!

God'5 Church Grows!

The Malamba Church has ^ptized J._5 people since | Ijyiarch, bringing the totaJ._.Qf~Cirristians in the 'Ivillage to 46. The attendance has been between30-40 each Lord's Day, We are thankful that theLord has given them a desire to grow. The ^'Ibala church has added several members bytransfer and one man by baptism. We continue tohold this church in prayer for evangelistic zeal.

Twelve adultsjwjill_be baptizedtomorrow at the worship service. Please pray forthese new Christians as they begin to grow in Christ.

Scripture Union Retreat40 students from the Secondary School came tothe two day retreat we sponsored at thebeginning of July. Justone Kondowe, a youngChristian from the church at Mpulungu, didan excellent job of organization and thecamp was a good success. The group is goingvery well and we are excited that anotherteacher at school has taken interest in the

CHRISTMAS GREETINGS FROM LONDON

Yes, London, It was not in our plans, but the Lord evidently had a differentplan. For those of you who may not know what has happened, I'll give you a littlebackground.

Following the visit of my parents to Zambia in October, Cheryl and Brianreturned to England with them in order to visit Brian's Great-Grandmother Scottwho was visiting her daughter's family in London, and to have some medicalexaminations for some problems Cheryl has been troubled with since Brian's birth.

We enjoyed our parents visit so much and I was sad to see everyone leave.I remained to continue working in the churches and to complete work on the house. The finish work went quickly and after one month I was able to shift our thingsinto the new house. Because of the slow mail and telegraph services, I was inthe dark as to what was occuring with Cheryl and Brian. The political situationin Zambia was tense and after the bombings of guerrilla bases in Zambia I limitedmy activities to town work until after the planned political elections duringDecember. I did this because of the increased security restrictions which followedthe attacks. We are not anywhere near the camps that were hit, but we are neara Zambian Air Force base in Mbala,

Meanwhile in London Cheryl had seen a specialist who recommended andperformed a D&C for her. It was hoped that this would help her return to normal. Two weeks following the operation she began to hemorrhage heavily and aftershe blacked out the Doctor returned her to the hospital, A telegram was sentfor me to call, but it did not reach Mbala for 4 days. I hurried to Kasamaand was able to call London, reaching ray Aunt Myama Schultz, who thought itwould be best for Cheryl if I would come.

Tom Fort, one of our missionaries in Kasama, and I made a fast trip backto Mbala and arranged for a watchman and closed up the house. I reallyappreciated his help and that of the Niemeyers. Without their help I wouldnot have made the Saturday flight to Lusaka from Kasama. By Sunday night Iwas in London and was happy to be together with my family and to find Cherylimproving. They had allowed Cheryl to leave the hospital for the afternoonthat day so both Cheryl and Brian met me at the airport. Cheryl was stillhemorrhaging, but she was much better and the Doctor allowed her to leave thenext day if she would rest at home.

We rejoice that the Lord has been healing and that Cheryl has now regainedher strength and things appear to be returning to normal. We praise the Lordthat He was watching over Cheryl and Brian. At the time of Cheryl's hemorrhagingthey were scheduled to be enroute to Zambia, but Brian came down with tonsilitis, postponing their return a week. We rejoice that the Lord was watching overthem bothI

Page 12: Albaugh Lee Cheryl 1978 Zambia

FUTURE OUTLOOK

Cheryl and I have been talking and praying about our next step. Many of youhave been praying and thinking about us because of the recent troubles in Zambia. We are so thankful for your concern. Your letters and prayers have been deeplyappreciated.

The work in the villages had been going well the last few months, despitethe large amount of time we were forced to spend working on the house. As is thecase in so much of the world today, the future is not predictable in Zambia,Before leaving Zambia for London, the situation in Zambia had cooled considerably. We are not able to predict what will be the future, but we pray for more stabilityover the next years. We believe the work started is not finished as long as thedoors remain open.

Our main concern at the present is a cholera outbreak 28 miles from Mbalawhich is threatening us. The health officials have indicated that shouldCholera reach Mbala, the churches will not be able to meet. This would affectour freedom to work and move in the area. The outbreak has taken many livesalready in the small town of Mpulungu on Lake Tanganyika. Please pray that thesituation will improve among the suffering people and that the disease willstay outside our area.

We plan, at this time, to return to Zambia the week following Christmas, unless the Lord shows us otherwise. We do not feel our work in finished in Mbala

and we pray the Lord will use us to reach as many as possible in the time wehave.

A REMINDER

After two years in Zambia, this unexpected trip has shown to us that Zambiais not the only country that needs a Gospel witness. A recent article in theLondon Times read "England the Most Secular Country in Europe", and went on tospeak about the turning of the people away from the Church into cults, spiritismand various pursuits of pleasure. Some independent studies of my own showed, through the government Gazette, that all Christian churches, other than Catholic, have registered large loses during the last 10 years.

It was sad to see that the country that did so must to Evangelize Africais becoming such a poor example of a people dedicated to the Lord. One Englishlady from the United Bible Society told me that next year three African preacherswere coming to England to hold evangelistic rallies. We need to keep the peopleof England, one of the main crossroads of the world, in our prayers forspiritual renewal.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE ALBAUGH'S. Our family wants youto know of our praise to the Lord for your love and concern for us at thistime. We pray that the Lord will richly bless you and your families this Christmasand that the New Year will be filled with opportunities of service in His Name.Maranathal
