Please remember you must provide a birth cerficate before a child can be enrolled. SCHOOL UNIFORM I would once again like to thank parents for their amazing support of our dress code. Our students look fantasc as they wear their uniforms with pride. As the weather starts to cool, I would just like to remind families that our dress code states that students wear fleecy navy blue track pants and zip jacket embroidered with school emblem and / or the navy, white and maroon microfibre zip jacket and coon lined track pants. Just a reminder also that shoes should be plain black shoes with no other colours, etc. Thank you again for your support. The format will look a lile different this year as we stagger the year level performances to allow sufficient space for families to be able to socially distance. These events dont just happen. A lot of work over many months goes into planning and organisaon to ensure we provide these memory making momentsfor our students and their families. Please come along and see all that Albany Creek State High School has to offer. There will be enrolment information, Learning @AC Presentations in XPAC, curriculum stalls in the MPC, school tours and performances by Dance Excellence students and our Instrumental Music ensembles.

Session bookings will open from Friday 14 May. At Open Day, attendees will be required to check in using the Check In Qld app. Please refer to the school website for additional information about EOIs and the booking process.

Please note that there has been an important change to our enrolment process this year regarding receipt of EOIs and our waiting list. CREEK 2 HILLS CYBERSAFETY PARENT INFORMATION SESSION

Join us for a presentation by The Cyber Safety and Reputation Management Team from the Department of Education. Cybersafety is such an important issue for our students, particularly as they enter their upper primary and secondary years of schooling.

This is a great opportunity for parents.

ECOMARINE AMBASSADORS

Our EcoMarine ambassadors had a great time meeting new students, sharing knowledge, learning about environmental issues, building sandcastles, having fun on the island and hand feeding wild dolphins! Pictured are our newest EcoMarines, Sophie, Annie, Michael and Sienna at the Training Day on Moreton Island, 27 April.

ANZAC VISITOR

In preparation for ANZAC Day, 2SG & 2BV had a special visitor. John Hardgrave came to visit Year 2 to inform of them importance of ANZAC Day, what it means to be a soldier and how and why we commemorate on 25 April. The students were very thankful for the special visit which helped them understand just how important it is to remember and thank those who have fought or are fighting for us and our freedoms.

Science News… PUSH OR PULL

This term our Year 2 scientists are investigating forces. They were faced with the challenge of using different ways to make a toy car move. They identified push, pull and non- contact forces including gravity and push and pulls from magnetic forces.

DO WE LIVE ON A BASKETBALL, TENNIS BALL OR PEPPERCORN?

Year 3 students are investigating how the movement of the Earth explains everyday observations such as day and night. Using a basketball, tennis-ball and peppercorn, they went to the bottom oval to represent the distances of the Sun and Moon from Earth using scale measurements. What do you think represents the size of the Earth based on scale measurements? Basket-ball, tennis-ball or peppercorn?

DOG TREAT FEEDER MACHINES

Year 2 created Rube Goldberg machines of a ‘dog treat feeder’ so that an initial push force sets off a chain of reaction forces. The majority of forces were pushes, with the pull of gravity constantly acting on objects causing them to roll down a ramp.

Lunch Club News… FRIDAY ART CLUB

Every Friday at second break in PLH, the Prep Art Club is held. The students come along and have fun exploring different arts and crafts. They are encouraged to use their fine motor skills with the activities offered. They enjoy colouring in, colour by numbers, sequencing, drawing, and taking part in directed fun art activities. Last week’s activity was a directed drawing of a lady beetle and the students were encouraged to tear the paper to make the background to their picture. The students enjoy their craft time and socialising with their friends. A fantastic time is had by all who attends.

DANCE TUTOR BADGES

Last week our 2021 Dance Tutors received their Dance Tutor Badges at Senior Assembly. These Year 6 students have shown a willingness to devote their time and skills in helping run our lunch time dance clubs with commitment, responsibility and leadership. Well done!

Student News… YEAR 5 COMPOSTING—GREAT WORK, PREP STUDENTS!

The Preps did a great job at composting for the first time, putting their fruit scraps in the compost bucket. The only things that can go into the compost buckets are fruit and vegetables scraps and eggshells.

Keep up the great work, Preps!!!

Once all the grades have put their scraps into the compost bucket, the Year fives then take them to the bigger compost bins. The scraps will then break down after time. Once this process is complete, we put it in the garden beds to help the plants to grow.

Fun fact: The microbes responsible for breaking down the compost pile need a balanced diet of nitrogen and carbon. Nitrogen comes from green material such as food scraps and grass clippings. Carbon comes from brown material such as dead leaves, hay and wood chips.

RUNNING CLUB AND NORTH DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY TRIALS

I was recently selected to represent the school in the North District Cross Country Trials. To prepare for this, Mr Gason put together a training program for us to work on at home. For training we also attended the 7:45 am Running Club every Wednesday at school.

The District Trials were held at Teralba Park. There were a lot of competitors and the competition was tough. Albany Hills finished 3rd overall which is a fantastic result.

I would like to say a big thank you to Mr Gason for going to all this effort for us.

HEALTHY HAROLD HUNDRED CHALLENGE

This May I am participating in the Healthy Harold Hundred challenge. I have committed to riding 100kms in the first 20 days of May. That’s 5km per day!

I am fundraising for Life Education so they can talk to children about being kind, inclusive and having respectful relationships to help prevent bullying and violence. Did you know that 1 in 4 children are bullied every few weeks and 1 in 5 children experience cyber-bullying?

I set my fundraising target at $100 and I have already received $150 in donations but I will keep fundraising. I am off now to ride my 5km for today.

Here is a photo of me as I get ready to ride to school.
