he University of Alaska Southeast is looking for a few good students! If you want to do something real, if

you want to help make a difference, check out the UAS Alaska Native Languages pro-gram! Students can learn and help docu-ment endangered languages of Southeast

Alaska, including the Tlingit and Haida languages, and keep them alive for future generations.

The rewards are spiritual and also financial. First of all, it feels good. The languages are challenging, exciting and different. It feels good to learn them. For

students of Alaska Native ancestry, this is a way to connect with the heritage language of your ancestors. For non-Native learn-ers, it is a way to connect to the land and people of Southeast Alaska. The program can lead to jobs in teaching and research.

Degree RequirementsStudents must complete General Education

Requirements (GERs) as well as specific pro-gram requirements. Occupational Endorse-ments are under 30 credit hours, Certificates are a minimum of 30 credit hours, Associate degrees are a minimum of 60 credit hours and Bachelor degrees are a minimum of 120 credit hours. 12 credits (typically 3-4 classes) per semester is considered full time status, 6 credits (typically 2 classes) per semester is considered part time status.
