Dear Class of 2020,

Congratulations on achieving a significant milestone in your life by graduating from high school! You have made your family and your high school very proud. As you celebrate your success, I invite you to consider taking the next step in your journey of success at one of the colleges of the Alamo Colleges District—St. Philip’s College, San Antonio College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College and Northeast Lakeview College.

The College Connection Program makes enrolling into the Alamo Colleges District easy! You have taken appropriate steps this year to become a student at a college at the Alamo Colleges District.

During your senior year you had the opportunity to:

Submit an Apply Texas Application, visit applytexas.org

o Summer = May–July o Fall = August– December

Submit your official (sealed) high school transcript

Log in to ACES o ACES is the online portal for all your student information. You will be able to

register for classes, review your financial aid, and pay your tuition.

o Visit aces.alamo.edu Activate AlamoNAVIGATE

o AlamoNAVIGATE is your personalized event path, displaying specific "To Do's" for your registration. After logging into ACES, click the "Start Here" tab to access "AlamoNAVIGATE" and begin following your path to enrollment.

Upload your Bacterial Meningitis documents o All students age 22 and younger must submit proof of the Bacterial Meningitis

vaccination.

o To submit documentation visit AlamoNAVIGATE and select “Turn in Shot Record.” For more information, visit alamo.edu/meningitis

Complete your required AlamoENROLL modules o In AlamoNAVIGATE select “Complete Go FAARR Module.” o In AlamoNAVIGATE select “Complete Test Prep.”

Meet your placement requirement (TSI, SAT/ACT, etc.) No Cost Testing between May 1

and June 20, 2020. o Visit AlamoNAVIGATE and select the event path “Take your Placement Test.”

Your Next Steps Are To:

Attend New Student Orientation (NSO), Meet your Advisor and Register for classes First Time in College (FTIC) students who have applied for Summer 2020 or Fall 2020 must attend a NSO/Advising Session prior to registering. Visit the College Connection website at alamo.edu/collegeconnection (First-time-in-College Advising) to learn about NSO/Advising Sessions for FTIC students. Contact the college where you plan to enroll for additional information regarding your orientation requirement.

Registration Information Summer/Fall registration for new students has begun. The first day for Summer Session I classes will begin on June 8, 2020 and Summer Session II classes will begin on July 13, 2020. The first day of Fall 2020 classes will begin on August 24, 2020.

After You Register, Pay your Bill You will not receive a bill in the mail.

How do I pay for classes?

• Pay for your classes by the tuition payment deadline posted online at alamo.edu/calendars. • Check your ACES student account for your Financial Aid status. If eligible, your financial aid

award will be applied.

Paying for College: Financial Aid Information

• The Alamo Colleges District Student Financial Aid Office can help you find resources to pay for college, including grants, loans, scholarships and work-study programs. Find out more at alamo.edu/district/financial-aid. If you haven’t already applied for financial aid, get started immediately and apply now! Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.ed.gov.

• Texas state law (Senate Bill 1528) allows students who are neither U.S. citizens nor permanent residents to apply for state financial aid funds. Aid is awarded in a first come, first served basis. Click here for additional TASFA information.

• If selected for Student Aid Verification

by our Financial Aid Office, you will be notified via your ACES email. Verification is the process used to confirm that the data reported on your financial aid application is accurate. Review your ACES-Financial Aid Tab regularly for updates.

You have the following payment options:

Pay your tuition to reserve your classes using one of 3 options. 1. You can make the full payment,

a. Pay online with a credit card or check through your ACES student account. 2. Apply and use Financial Aid or 3. Set up an installment plan in your ACES Account.

All payments must be made by the payment deadline that applies to you, or your classes will be dropped. Get more information about paying for classes at alamo.edu/district/business-office. Remember to print a copy of your class schedule and your paid tuition bill for your records.

Smart Start

The colleges in the Alamo Colleges District support and promote active student engagement and commitment to learning. Students may be dropped if they do not participate in the first-class meeting or do not contact the instructor regarding their absence.

Other Important Information:

How much does it cost to attend one of the colleges of the Alamo Colleges District?

Whether you are planning to complete a degree, certificate or transfer to a university, the Alamo Colleges District offers a great value. Tuition at the Alamo Colleges District is the lowest among all area colleges and universities.

Estimated cost of attendance: In-District tuition for 15 college credit hours is only $3,062 per semester. For complete details on cost of attendance (tuition/fees), visit alamo.edu/district/business-office.

Are there any other expenses?

Other expenses are for books and supplies. The average cost of books and supplies (based on 15 hours per semester/for two semesters) is approximately $1,674.

Digital/online textbooks are available at the college bookstore; however, you are not required to purchase textbooks from a college bookstore on campus. The same textbooks may also be available from independent retailers, including online retailers.

It is important to have your books and other instructional materials on the first day of class. This will help you be more successful in class and to achieve your educational goals.

Glossary • ACES – is a secure portal that provides you, staff, and faculty with access to various

applications using a single sign-on. As an ACES user, you will have access to register for classes, financial aid information, email, library resources, and online courses. ACES will also provide you with the latest information of events and important news taking place within your college. (Aces.alamo.edu)

• Advising/Advisor – AlamoADVISE, an intrusive, intentional case management model, was

launched to facilitate and support you in your transition from high school to degree completion. You will be assigned an advisor who helps and advises you to be able to follow your degree plan by selecting appropriate classes.

• AlamoENROLL – The required GoFAAR module ensures you are aware of Texas Success Initiative (TSI), English, reading, and math skills. It provides information about your student rights and responsibilities as well as institutional and community resources. The Test Prep module helps prepare you using the TSI Pre-Assessment Activity. The modules help clarify the importance of the test and possible exemptions you might qualify for retesting.

• AlamoNAVIGATE – is an online platform that provides a personalized enrollment checklist.

It helps you stay on top of the things that you need to do to get registered in one of the colleges at the Alamo Colleges District. You’ll view important tasks specific to your personal enrollment situation. It’s a one-stop tool that guides you through the application, enrollment and completion process. It features simple, easy to understand language and personalized prompts to complete steps to register. It will also soon be available as a mobile app.

• AlamoPROMISE– AlamoPROMISE will provide last-dollar funding to fill the gap between a student’s financial aid award and the cost of tuition and mandatory fees for up to three years at one of the Alamo Colleges District’s five colleges

• AlamoSTUDENT ID – with a valid Student ID you can ride on all VIA mainline bus routes at

no charge during registered semesters. You can also use it to check out books/materials in the library, and use for access to recreational facilities and computer labs, etc.

• ApplyTexas – online application used to apply for admissions to one of our colleges.

• Bacterial Meningitis (BM) – the Alamo Colleges District uses Magnus Health to collect and

process your bacterial meningitis information. Magnus Health is a secure and easy-to-use website for submitting bacterial meningitis documentation.

• Bursar – the business office where you can pay tuition or fees.

• College Connection (CC) – a program that assists future college students with the transition

from high school to college by supporting you through the enrollment process. Participating seniors receive help at their high schools to ensure the completion of admission, assessment, financial aid, and advisement processes before high school graduation.

• Financial Aid (FAFSA) – The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is the first step in applying for federal, state, and institutional financial aid. Financial Aid is money to help pay for college or career school. Grants, work-study, loans, and scholarships help make college or career school affordable.

• Financial Aid Verification- A review process in which the Student Financial Aid office

determines the accuracy of various data elements reported by you/your parent(s) on the FAFSA. If chosen for verification, documents will be requested through the student portal, ACES.

• First Time in College (FTIC) – Students attending college for the first time.

• Installment Plan – Available online in your ACES Account. Installment Plans break up your total amount of tuition due into multiple payments. The Installment Plan is available for each semester and has preset dates that determines the payment due date. Fall 2020 first payment and a $1.00 fee is due when a contract is set up. This action is needed prior to your payment deadline and is an easy way to secure your classes and prevent your classes from being dropped from your selected schedule.

• New Student Orientation (NSO) – NSO offers you the opportunity to engage with college representatives and other students for academic advising and to learn about valuable resources supporting student success.

• Register for Classes – You have selected a time, date and a campus to attend class.

• Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) – Students that are classified as a Texas

Resident who cannot apply for federal financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are encouraged to complete the TASFA.

• Texas Success Initiative (TSI) – a state mandated program that is designed to help determine

if you are ready for college-level coursework in the general areas of reading, writing, and mathematics.

• Tuition and Fees – The average cost of tuition and fees for a typical undergraduate student

is based on full-time or part-time enrollment. Full-time = on average 12-15 hours per semester (4-5 classes); Part-time = on average 1-9 hours per semester (1-3 classes).
