Globally, total world crude steel output has witnessed a period of unprecedented growth, reaching 1.34 billion metric tons
in 2007
This output represents 7.5 per cent increase from 2006 and amounts to the highest level of crude steel output in history
Such growth has been largely fuelled by the continued strong economic growth in emerging economies.
2007 represents the fifth consecutive year of annual growth of over 7 per cent in total global output.
