Elephants, (mostly African elephants) are being

hunted for their precious ivory tusks. Lots of

Elephants are dying every year because of these

hunters. There are different types of elephants (such

as the African Elephant and the Forest Elephant).

Elephants can live to about 60 years old to 70 years

old. For more information visit the website below…

ecies/elephants/african_elephants/afelephants_threats/

Did you know? - African Elephants can weigh up to

6 tons and smaller elephants weighing 5 tons!!! 1 ton

is equal to 2000 pounds! That’s pretty heavy.

Preschool Health Information Package for Kindergarten Registration Southwestern Public Health is committed to helping young children to make a healthy start to their school years! Your

school nurses will be providing each new kindergarten student’s family with a Preschool Health Information Package that

will outline health opportunities available in Oxford County to get preschool kids ready for school. These packages will be

distributed during kindergarten registration at your school. Parents should ensure that they read through this material because

a healthy lifestyle is linked to improved educational performance by our children.

This package will tell parents:

• How to book a free comprehensive eye examination and how to receive free eyeglasses for their JK student through

the Eye See…Eye Learn program.

• How to have their child’s hearing evaluated by an audiologist.

• How to complete a nutrition assessment of their child with the online Nutristep questionnaire.

• How important it is to have your child’s teeth checked regularly. Free dental screenings are offered through public

health – call 1-800-922-0096.

• How to provide Public Health with updated immunization information and documentation to avoid school

suspension. Immunization information may be submitted to public health online – visit

www.swpublichealth.ca/vaccineswork

• How to access your school public health nurse in the preschool period. You can reach me by e-mail at

[email protected] or by calling 519-421-9901, x3441. Nurses will also be available at TVDSB and

LDCSB schools hosting a TV NELP (Thames Valley Neighbourhood Early Learning Program) this spring.

• How it is also not too late to get your flu shot -- protect yourself and those around you!

Your school public health nurses encourage all parents of new students to take advantage of these programs to help

kids and families to be prepared for many healthy school years ahead!

PIC meeting will be on. Feb 4th at 6:30 in the library and Feb 5th will be our next Thamesford pizza night.
