1 FONTAINE DE LA ROTONDE The exceptionally large fountain built in 1860topped by 3 statues representing Law (facing thecity), Agriculture (facing Marseille), and Art (facingAvignon).
2 FONTAINE DES 9 CANONS Built in 1691, its water was used by the nuns ofSainte-Ursule and then by the Benedictines.
3 FONTAINE D’EAU CHAUDEBuilt in 1734, this fountain is nicknamed ”Mossy”.The water comes from the Bagniers hot springand is 18°C.
4 FONTAINE DU ROI RENÉ Built in 1819, it shows a statue of the king holding acluster of Muscat grapes that he grew in Provence.
5 PLACE ET FONTAINE DE LA MAIRIE Built in 1756, the fountain decorated with gargoylesspewing water from the Pinchinats spring is in thecentre of an outstanding complex: Town Hall, CornExchange and Clock Tower.
6 PLACE DES CARDEURS ET FONTAINE AMADO Italian-style esplanade dotted with cafe and res-taurant terraces, it has a fountain created in 1977 by the Aix artist Jean Amado.
7 PLACE DE L’ARCHEVÊCHÉ The Archbishop’s Palace (1650-1730), adorned witha fine Regency door, hosts the Aix-en-ProvenceFestival (opera) in its courtyard every July.
8 PLACE ET FONTAINE D’ALBERTASBaroque and Rococo site, completed in 1745 forthe Marquis d’Albertas in the style of royal squaresin Paris. The fountain dates from 1912.
9 PLACE ET FONTAINE DES 3 ORMEAUX Built on the site of a well and pleasantly shaded,the square has a 17th century fountain.

10 PLACE ET FONTAINE DES 4 DAUPHINS Surrounded by mansions including the Hôtel deBoisgelin (stunning wrought iron courtyard, façade decorated with monumental friezes). Fountain built in 1667.
11 MUR VÉGÉTAL (2008) (Patrick Blanc, botaniste) 650m2 surface area, 27m high and 22000 plants make this the largest green wall in France.
12 MUR D’EAU (2014) (Christian Ghion, designer) 700m2, 17m drop over a 56m width which makes it the largest curtain of water in Europe.
MARKETS IN THE CITYIn Aix-en-Provence, there is a daily market: flowers, fruits & vegetables, fabrics, antique books, crafts, flea etc. They settle on many squares, bring the town to life, get people together and are great to sample Provençal food.

HERITAGE SITESAND MUSEUMS
1 COURS MIRABEAU • Lined with plane trees,fountains, cafés, restaurants and elegant 17th and 18th centuries mansions, it links the old city town to the Mazarin district.
2 PASSAGE AGARD • Former Carmelite convent, it links the Cours Mirabeau to the Law Courts. Of the other side: the Oblats, former Chapel of the Carmelite convent.
3 MAUSOLÉE JOSEPH SEC • Dating from 1792,this is one of few examples of revolutionary ar-chitecture.
4 MAISON DE DARIUS MILHAUD • Classical music composer. The building houses the ARCADE (Regional Centre for the Performing Arts).
5 PALAIS DE JUSTICE • Built on the former "Palaisdes Comtes Souverains" and completed in 1832.
6 HÔTEL DE VILLE • Completed in 1670, re-markable Italian-style façade with carved wooden doors and old town belfry with astronomical clock (1661).
7 ANCIENNE HALLE AUX GRAINS • Completed in1761, topped with an allegorical pediment repre-senting the Rhône and the Durance.
8 HÔTEL MAYNIER D’OPPÈDE • It takes its name from a very old family of magistrates. Its current form dates from 1757. Classical concerts in its inner courtyard in summer.
9 SPA THERMES SEXTIUS • Well-being instituteand spa on the site of the ancient Roman Sextius Baths, near the 14th century Tourreluque Tower.
