Bahawalpur located in Punjab, is the 12th largest city in Pakistan. In 2007, the city's population was recorded to have risen to 798,509 from 403,408 in 1998. The city was home to various Nawabs (rulers) and counted as part of the Rajputana state. The city is known for its famous palaces such as the Noor Mahal, Sadiq Ghar Palace, and Darbar Mahal, as well as the ancient fort of Derawar in the Cholistan Desert bordering India. The city is located near the historical and ancient cities of Uch and Harappa. The city, which lies just south of the Sutlej River, is the site of the Adamwahan Empress Bridge, the only railway bridge over the Sutlej in Pakistan. It is situated 90 km from Multan. The city also has a city gate called Farid Gate, which in its heyday provided the only entrance to the city for its rulers.CLIMATE:The climate is mainly hot and dry. In the summer the temperature reaches the high forties (Celsius) during the day and the nights are slightly cooler. Since the city is located in a desert environment there is little rainfall. Weather conditions reach extremes in both summer and winter. The average temperature in summer is 33 °C (91 °F) and 18 °C (64 °F) in winter. The average rainfall is 20 to 25 cm annually
SITE:co-ordinates: 29.397507, 71.651305
The site that I have selected is near Gulberg road, it is surrounded by various industries and residences. Thus making it a sub-urban area. My housing scheme will aim to cater the workers of these industries. The site is at a distance of 1.2km from the Bhawalpur railway station, the nearest bus stop is Sial chowk which is at a 6min walk from the site. Bhawalpur’sbiggest hospital the BahawalVictoria Hospital is 4.5km and a 10min drive away from the site.

ACTIVE NEIGHBORHOODS
CONCEPTTREE-how a tree grows and creates a shelter, minimal care is required as it takes care of itself. Creating a sense of belonging, by leaving room for further development that can be done by the families living in them.ARCHITECTURAL PHILOSOPHY:Central promenade creating a common congregation space, along with layered sequence spaces that take people from public to private areas such as chowksor maidans to mohallas. Further shared open spaces by houses creating small communal spaces to connect and create an active neighborhood.

INNOVATIONMUDBRICKA mudbrick is a brick, made of a mixture of loam, mud, sand and water mixed with a binding material such as rice husks or straw. a stiff mixture and let them dry in the sun. mud brick making places mud in moulds which, after initial drying, are removed to allow the bricks to dry slowly. Moulds can be made from timber or metal anything that can be shaped to provide the desired size for the bricks. Virtually all the energy input for mud brick construction is human labor, this reduces labor cost. mud brick can create loadbearing structures up to several storeys high. Mud brick walls can provide moderate to high thermal mass. They are not good insulators. Since they are extremely dense they lack the ability to trap air within their structure. mud brick walls generally have excellent fire and vermin resistance. Materials for making mud bricks are readily available in most areas and in some cases may be sourced directly from the building site.
