Since December 31st, 2006, regulations have been in place in Canada requiring that personnel charged with airport wildlife management are sufficiently trained and that most airports establish an Airport Wildlife Management Plan (AWMP). These regulations, under the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CAR) 302, in association with the Airport Standards 322, help improve aviation safety by ensuring that airports, to which the regulations apply, have an effective AWMP and personnel who are adequately trained to perform integrated wildlife management. The United States has similar regulations that require airport wildlife management practitioners to be properly trained. Both countries’ regulations recognize the importance of airport wildlife management and the necessity that practitioners have a firm understanding of biological and ecological principles, animal behaviour, firearms and aviation safety, as well as associated laws. With over 20 years’ experience, Falcon Environmental Services, Inc. (FES) offers specialized training, proposing adapted solutions and strategies for any airport’s needs and available ressources. FES’ training courses are tailored to airport realities, in terms of size, traffic, complexity and type of stakeholder to be trained. FES offers an array of courses that will meet your needs in terms of wildlife management, whether:

• You need to fulfill the minimal CAR requirements; • You want your wildlife control personnel to be better trained to improve wildlife

management directly on the field; • You want your wildlife control personnel to better understand the importance of their

duties of minimizing wildlife hazards and risks; • Or, you want your managers to understand and learn how to perform a risk assessment,

as well as how to design the accompanying wildlife management plan. Our training programs can be personalized, enabling personnel of any type of airport to fullfil their duties regarding wildlife issues. FES has expertise not only on the field, but also in the development of wildlife management plans with both civilian and military airports. Our trainings are recognized by Transport Canada and FES is a member of the Bird Strike Association of Canada and of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

2. M-OM - Airport Wildlife Management Training for Military Operations Managers 2.1. Pre-Requisites Working knowledge of the aviation industry and wildlife strikes recommended. 2.2. Description Military airports face unique situations with regards to airport wildlife management due to the high-risk types of aircraft flown and the manoeuvres that these perform such as training flights at low altitude and high speeds. Some military airports are also used by civilian aircraft. Thus, military airports are increasingly choosing to follow, and even surpass, recommendations made by Transport Canada for civilian airports with regards to airport wildlife management. Military airports are often found on the cutting edge of airport wildlife management. The Airport Wildlife Management Training for Military Operations Managers course is a comprehensive 2-day course that meets or exceeds Transport Canada CAR 302 and Airport Standards 322. 4. I-M - International Airport Wildlife Management Training for Airport Managers 4.1. Pre-Requisites Working knowledge of the aviation industry and wildlife strikes recommended. 4.2. Description Wildlife strikes are an international aviation safety issue. Many countries have standards, recommendations and even regulations with regards to wildlife management at airports in order to control the number of wildlife strikes and ensure passenger safety. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, has a set of Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS) on airport wildlife control that became effective November 27, 2003. The 191 member states of ICAO are required to follow these standards, which address assessing the risk posed by birds, discouraging the presence of birds at airports and eliminating or preventing bird attractants on airports. The International Bird Strike Committee (IBSC) has developed a Recommended Practices guide of Standards for Aerodrome Bird/Wildlife Control to complement the ICAO requirements. The International Airport Wildlife Management Training for Airport Managers is a comprehensive 2-day course that addresses the issues set forth in the ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices. 4.3. Objectives The purpose of this course is to inform participants on the most efficient and safe ways to comply with ICAO SARPS concerning airport wildlife management in order to reduce the number and severity of wildlife strikes at International airports. 4.4. 5. CM-AWMP - How to do your own Airport Wildlife Management Plan 5.1. Pre-Requisites Working knowledge of the aviation industry and wildlife strikes recommended. 5.2. Description Transport Canada CAR 302 and Airport Standards 322 require that most airports, despite their size, implement an Airport Wildlife Management Plan (AWMP). Some smaller airports may decide to perform their own risk assessement and to draft the associated wildlife management plan. However, this complex task can be difficult for non-experts. This course can facilitate the task by giving participants a description and an explanation of each requirement of the plan, enabling them to write their own AWMP. With great experience in the field, FES can guide you in designing an Airport Management Plan that will comply with federal regulations. 5.3. Objectives The purpose of this course is to enable personnel from any airport to write an Airport Wildlife Management Plan (AWMP), compliant with Federal regulations, and specific to their site and wildlife issues. 5.4. Course Topics 1 - Elaborating an AWMP 3 - Wildlife Management Plan

• Risk assessment • Available wildlife management tools • Wildlife Management Plan (passive and active techniques)

• Permit requirements and regulations 2 - Risk Assessment • Specific management techniques for

• Identification of airport features and characteristics

priority wildlife species representing hazards to aviation safety

o Wildlife habitat and ressources o Runways

• Habitat management and secondary attractants

o Air traffic • Monitoring techniques o Wildlife • Communications procedures

• Wildlife strikes trend analysis • Training program • Land-uses around the airport • Wildlife management research projects • Bird hazard zone design • Identification of wildlife hazards

• Risk scoring o Basic risk scoring o SMS scoring o Risk assessment matrix
