Runway Boundary Sign: This sign faces the runway andis visible to pilots exiting therunway. It is located next to theyellow holding position markingspainted on the taxiway pave-ment. Taxi past this sign to besure you are clear of the runway.

ILS Critical Area HoldingPosition Sign: ATC may hold you at this sign,on a taxiway, when the instru-ment landing system is beingused at the airport. Aircraft taxiing beyond this point mayinterfere with the ILS signal toapproaching aircraft.

Runway Approach AreaHolding Position Sign: Hold here unless cleared tocross. Taxiing past this signmay interfere with operationson the runway. (In this case,aircraft arriving to runway 15 ordeparting from runway 33.) It islocated next to the yellow hold-ing position markings paintedon the taxiway pavement.

ILS Critical Area BoundarySign: Located next to the ILS holdingposition markings and is seenby pilots leaving the ILS criticalarea. When ILS approachesare in use, be sure your aircrafthas passed beyond this signbefore stopping on the taxiway.

Runway Holding Position Sign: Hold here. In this example, thethreshold for runway 15 is to yourleft and the threshold for runway33 is to your right. This sign islocated next to the yellow holdingposition marking painted on taxi-ways that intersect runways andon runways that intersect otherrunways.

Taxiway Location Sign: Indicates the taxiway you areon. (May be co-located withdirection signs or runway holding position signs, asshown in graphic.)

No Entry Sign: Indicates an area prohibited toaircraft. Do not enter this area.This sign would be found at theentrance to a one-way taxiwayor at the inter-section of a road intended forvehicles.

Holding Position and LocationSigns: In this example, you are on taxiwayAlpha approaching the intersection ofrunways 5-23 and 9-27.Runway 5 threshold is to the left.Runway 23 threshold is to the right.Runway 9 threshold is ahead and tothe left. Runway 27 threshold isbehind and to the right.

Direction Signs and LocationSign: The black location sign indicatesyou are on taxiway Alpha.The yellow direction signs indicatethe direction of intersecting taxi-ways. In this example, taxiwayCharlie is to the left, Alpha takes aturn to the right ahead, andCharlie is to the immediate right.

Outbound Destination Sign:Indicates a common taxi routeto runway(s), with an arrowpointing out the direction of thetaxi route. A dot (.) separatestwo destinations. In this exam-ple, runways 27 and 33 are toyour right.

Inbound Destination Sign: Indicates a destination on theairport, with an arrow pointingout the direction to that destina-tion. In this example, the mili-tary installation is to your right.Other information signs are“Cargo”, “Term” (Terminal),“Ramp”, etc.

Runway Holding PositionMarkings:This painted marking is found ontaxiways at runway intersectionsand indicates where an aircraft isto stop. The solid lines are onthe side where the aircraft is tohold and the dashed lines arealways on the side toward therunway. Do not cross the mark-ings until cleared.

Runway Location Sign: Identifies runway on which youraircraft is located.

Direction Sign for RunwayExit: Indicates an exit from a runway.Located just prior to the inter-section, on the same side ofthe runway as the exit.

Taxiway Ending Marker: Indicates the taxiway does notcontinue.Located on the far side of theintersection.

Holding Position Marking forILS:Indicates the boundary of the ILScritical area. Don’t cross unlesscleared. When exiting the area, ayellow ILS Critical Area Boundarysign will be adjacent this mark-ing. All parts of your aircraft mustcross this marking to be clear ofthe ILS critical area.

Closed Runway and TaxiwayMarking:Indicates a closed runway or taxi-way. On a permanently closedrunway, it will be placed at eachrunway end and at 1,000 ft. inter-vals. It will also be placed ateach entrance of a permanentlyclosed taxiway. A raised-light X,plywood or fabric may be used inlieu of a pavement marking.
