Basic Types

ACFT are categorized as;• Balloon - Transporter• Glider - Business ACFT• Human Powered ACFT - Airliner• Basic Training ACFT - Freighter• Aerobatic ACFT - Air-Crane

Page 3: Aircraft Types

Balloon

• The hot air balloon is the oldest successful human-carrying flight technology. It is part of a class of aircraft known as balloon aircraft.

• Hot air balloons that can be propelled through the air rather than just being pushed along by the wind are known as airships or, more specifically, thermal airships.

Glider

• A glider is a heavier-than-air aircraft that is supported in flight by the dynamic reaction of the air against its lifting surfaces, and whose free flight does not depend on an engine.

• Most gliders do not have an engine, although motor-gliders have small engines for extending their flight when necessary and some are even powerful enough to take off.

Human Powered ACFT

• Human-powered aircraft (HPA) is an aircraft belonging to the class of vehicles known as human-powered vehicles.

• It is powered by direct human energy and the force of gravity; the thrust provided by the human may be the only source.

• However, a hang glider that is partially powered by pilot power is a human-powered aircraft where the flight path can be enhanced more than if the hang glider had not been assisted by human power.

Basic Training ACFT

• Such ACFT used to classified by;– Weight– Wingspan

Basic Training ACFT

All such ACFT having;• Wingspan <49 ft• Wingspan <15 m• Approach Speed <91 Kts • Take-off Weight <41000 lbs

• Single Engine• Max 4 Pax• High-Wing• Tripod Landing Gear

Aerobatic Aircraft

• An aerobatic aircraft is an aerodyne (a heavier than air aircraft) used in aerobatics.

• Both for flight exhibitions and aerobatic competitions.

• AF around the world normally use jet aircraft for this purpose.

• There are many aerobatic teams; generically called as “Private Air Force”.

Business ACFT

• A business aircraft, private aircraft or “Bizjet” is an aircraft designed for transporting small groups of people.

• Business jets, props and heli’s may be adapted for other roles, such as the evacuation of casualties or express parcel deliveries, and some are used by public bodies, government officials or the armed forces.

There are about more than 30 billion ACFT, serving around the globe.

World’s Richest AF, got more than 1700 ACFT in service.

Ryanair is the only low cost carrier with more than 1300 B737’s.
