AIM HIGH @ HEPSDear parents,
HEALTHY RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER
Please consider the ‘Dog’ rule at HEPS ensuring that our parents and students
feel safe in the school grounds at all times. You may trust your dog and
appreciate that he/she is friendly but other people may be naturally scared or
not partial to dogs. As a community we have agreed that dogs would only
congregate on the asphalted area alongside the gym and certainly away from
doorways of classrooms. It would be appreciated if this agreement would be respected as some students
are still intimidated by the dogs and some of our parents are still expressing their concern about dogs
being too close to the doorway of classrooms. All of our students and their parents have the right to feel
safe; and being a school, students have priority in the school grounds.
Also just a reminder whether you are in the school grounds, crossing roads or parking cars to show each
other consideration and patience. We pride ourselves on being a caring and considerate community; we
certainly impart those values to our students and it would be reinforcing for them to see this behaviour
modelled by the adults.
REPORTS, PORTFOLIOS AND INTERVIEWS
Reports will be distributed to your child/children on Friday 21st June. Remember
that these reports are in the format mandated by the Department of Education and
Early Childhood Development (DEECD) and we cannot deviate from this format.
As we are currently in a transition period between VELS (Victorian Essential
Learning Standards) and the Australian Curriculum, this semester your child will
only receive a rating and associated ‘dot’ for English and Mathematics; an
achievement grade as well as a representation of six months progress will be available at the end of the
year. We continue to complement these reports with Parent/Teacher interviews and a Portfolio which
will be distributed on Friday 28th
June. As always, I remind you that the indicators of Work Habits that
is, your child’s ‘Effort’ and ‘Class Behaviour’ should be the areas upon which you place the greatest
value. We encourage all our students to actively engage in their learning and perform at their very best!
Parent/Teacher interviews will commence on Monday 24th
and continue throughout the week; I trust you
have registered your preference of time and date with your child’s teacher to further clarify the progress
of your child and understand the obligations of our three way partnership in learning for the following
semester.
CONGRATULATIONS MRS LATU
Congratulations to Kate and James Latu as they have another son, Daniel, who was born on
Friday. Both Kate and Daniel are well and we wish them good health and happiness in their
newly extended family.
PREP ORIENTATION
Our P rep Orientation program has been finalized and will commence early in Term Three This program
invites our pre-schoolers to participate in primary school activities so that they can familiarise themselves
with the personalities at HEPS as well as the grounds and facilities. This proves to be
valuable in preparing the little ones for school in the following year, removing some of the
mystery and potential fears of school. If you have a child or know of a child that should
commence primary school next year and hasn’t yet been enrolled would you please contact
the school. Being able to finalise numbers by the end of Term Two helps us plan more
effectively for 2014 as well as include all potential prep students in our supportive
‘transition’ program.
UNIFORM SHOP
You should find the flyer advertising the new PSW Uniform Shop attached to the
Newsletter. The shop will be selling HEPS uniform commencing Tuesday 18th
June; the
Uniform Price List is included. The HEPS uniform shop will have a ‘quick sale’ sometime
next week once we have adjusted the prices and arranged a selling point; a notice will be
sent home alerting you to the available stock and the associated prices. We look forward to
a supportive and positive relationship with PSW Quality Apparel and trust that you find the
new shop convenient.
The 2013 Woolworths Earn and Learn Program has now ended
As you know, our school has been participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program. The program
has now finished for this year, so a big thanks to everyone who supported our school. We’re now at the
important stage of the program where Points Sheets are collected and lodged as our
Earn & Learn claim. We will then be able to get new educational equipment for our
school. The more we collect, the more we can redeem. So this week please send in
your Woolworths Earn & Learn Points Sheets and any loose Earn & Learn Points
Stickers you may have. Remember to check your handbag, the car glove box or they
may be stuck on the fridge. Every little bit helps. Thanks again for all your support!
END OF TERM IS FAST APPROACHING
Just a reminder that Friday 28th
June is the last school day in term two. The children will be allowed to
commence their end of term break at 2.30pm after a short assembly at the front of the school. Now is a
good time to visit the ‘Lost Property’ area near level 2 and collect those school uniform items for a wash
and iron in readiness for term three.
Kind regards,
Kitty Allard.
Principal.

Sustainability Day a Great Success! Tuesday was a fantastic whole school event focussing on sustainability and the environment.
Congratulations to Sue Fraser and her team for the inspiration and hard work that made it a terrific day of
learning, sharing and fun! Also congrats to our School Captains and House Captains who were the teachers
for the planting activity that included making a biodegradable pot out of newspaper and planting succulent
cuttings. I have heard they were wonderful ambassadors for sustainability and great teachers!
FACILITIES AND GROUNDS… Thank you to the parents who have expressed interest in our Facilities and Grounds Committee. The next
meeting is 6.30pm on Monday June 24th
in the new kitchen / technology room. We meet once a month,
and plan maintenance and improvements to our school. If you are interested in joining us, either give me
a call at the office, or come along to our meeting!
WORKING BEE- Thank you to the families who attended the wet working bee a fortnight ago!
Although it was a wash-out, there was an amazing amount of work done! Thank you from us all !!!
SCRAP METAL FUNDRAISING DRIVE - Thanks to everyone who joined in and made this a great success. The ‘Recycle Queen’ Lee-anne from
Eco-Waste Recycling will be along on Friday to present a cheque to HEPS at the morning assembly. We
appreciate their support and thank them for the opportunity to be a part of this fundraising and
sustainability event.
Swimming for Year 4, 5 and 6 Scheduled for Wed 14th August to Friday 23rd August
Swimming notices will go out to students from Year 4, 5 and 6 on
Thursday 13 June. It is essential that we have either the permission slip or the
non-permission slip returned for each child.
Payment details are also outlined on the swimming notice.
We hope all children will attend this worthwhile program. Take care all and have fun, Mrs Fin
RAFFLE TICKETS
The raffle tickets are $1.00 each and we
would like to have the money and ticket stubs returned
to the school office no later than Monday, 17th
June.
“TOGETHERNESS” …………........
RESPONSIBILITY........................
As I spend time with children all around our
school, I am becoming aware of the importance
of “”TOGETHERNESS””, despite how
different we are:
Some of us are loud
Some of us are quiet
Some of us like to hang out with just one friend
Some of us love a crowd
Some of us are relaxed
Some of us are anxious
Some of us are leaders
Some of us are followers..................
And yet despite everyone being different,
WE REALLY NEED ONE ANOTHER
WHY?
Being around others who are different:
1. teaches us that it is healthy and good that people are different
2.encourages us to be understanding when they are not like us.
3.helps us to respect their different ways when they are different
from our ways.
4.stretches our ability to include others
5. teaches us a lot about others.
6. makes our lives richer and more stimulating
7. gives greater colour to our lives and others!!
WE REALLY NEED OTHERS AROUND US WHO ARE DIFFERENT, TO
HELP US BE A GREAT TEAM AT HEPS AND OUTSIDE!
Libby Chaplain.
TOGETHERNESS

GAMES CLUBS! We are planning to start two games clubs this term.
Prep to 2 games club and a Year 3-6 games club.
DONATIONS…
We are wondering if anyone in our school community has games at home that are no longer in use that could be donated to the games
clubs?
Please drop your games into the office and we promise they will be enjoyed by the HEPS children! Thank you to the Mullenger family
for their wonderful donations.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO DONATE YOUR TIME?
The games clubs will run between 1.40-2.30pm, during lunchtime. (Days yet to be decided)
A HEPS staff member will supervise the club, however, it is always great to have friendly, caring adults to help the children learn new
games and get along with each other.
If you are interested in coming along to assist children in games club, please contact me at the office.
Thanks!

Sustainability Day 2013 Thanks to the wonderful team of students, staff and parents
at HEPS, Sustainability Day 2013 was a huge success. Our
launch was held in the gym and Circus Sustainability kept us
laughing and thinking about sustainable actions we can all
take to keep our planet and ourselves happy. Students mixed
in multi-age groups, rekindling
friendships across the school
and giving children the chance
to meet and work with other
student and staff. Children then
up-cycled T-shirsts, cooked
soup from the food that would
normally be thrown away, created art from environmental objects and used old newspapers to make pots
for a succulent plant. (If you are wondering what we are going to do with the bottles, stay tuned!)
Thanks to all those who donated plants, especially Garden Lovers, and to our local supermarkets; Aldi,
Coles and Woolworths in Bayswater for donating
ingredients for our delicious soup. Special thanks to our
cheerful and willing parent helpers, our specialist
teachers for organising the stimulating activities and our
ever faithful aides who always go the extra mile to help
out with all school activities. What a fabulous day we all
had!
PAYMENTS
We would like to remind parents that
payments should be made via your child’s
classroom. This also promotes your child’s
sense of responsibility. Naturally if you
require EFT payments via a pin you are most
welcome to come to the office.
THEY’RE CALLING ON YOU
RECYCLE YOUR MOBILE PHONE TODAY AND HELP GORILLAS IN THE
WILD
Donate your unwanted mobile phone during Sustainability Week to help
save gorillas.
Recycle your phone helps to lessen the demand for coltan, a metal mined
within gorilla habitat.
Next time your phone rings let that be a reminder that ‘they’re calling on
you’!
Recycle your phone today!
Funds raised from recycling your phone will be donated by Zoos Victoria
to support primate conservation.
A box will be placed in the HEPS foyer to collect you donations
