To mark the 70th Independence Day of Pakistan, the Minister for Ports and Shipping Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo performed the hoisting of national flag at KPT Head Office. The Minister

was accompanied by Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed on the occasion. It was followed by guard of honour which the Minister Hasil Bizenjo took from the parade on the occasion.

While speaking on the occasion, the Minister Hasil Khan Bizenjo laid stress on collective efforts which has become mandatory for Pakistan over the years for realizing economic progress. He pointed out that labour and management are two wheels which runs the organization; and hence collective efforts from both the sides are required. He complimented the Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed as well as his team, including KPT management and labour/workers, for meeting 50 million tons cargo handling target and assured them full support of his Ministry on projects that the KPT has undertaken thus far. The Minister Hasil Bizenjo also distributed the best employees awards and announced a bonus on the occasion.

In his key note address, earlier, the Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed welcomed the Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo and informed him about 50 million tons cargo handling at the close of financial year 2015-16. He informed the Minister that in previous financial

year KPT handled 43 million tons and it was due to favourable policies of government, especially the federal Ministry of Ports and Shipping, that KPT was able to surpass this target. He also highlighted that KPT will inaugurate the Deep Water Container Port in Minister Hasil Bizenjo’s supervision this year.

Later the Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo performed the cake cutting on the occasion.

A panama flag vessel “CHEMTRANS 1” was rescued by KPT and towed the ill fated vessel from 11 nautical miles from KPT approach channel under extreme monsoon weather and

averted an eminent major disaster of grounding and pollution. An SOS signal of CHEMSTRANS 1 was received at KPT “CRISIS MANAGEMENT CENTRE (CMC)” reporting breakdown of Engine and lost of both Anchors due to bad weather and reported fast drifting towards shore with 12 Indian crew onboard.

KPT’s three Tugs and a private Tug “Endeavor” hired by her local agent Golden Shipping participated in the towing operation. Services of PN Tugs as standby and coordination with JMICCwere also made by KPT under the direction of Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed. The whole rescue operation lasted for 16 hours.

The vessel was carrying Benzene chemical sailed from Karachi Port on 2nd July for her next destination but her engine failed and one by one she lost both of her anchors at the outer anchorage (outside KPT Channel).

The vessel started drifting on the mercy of high sea waves and KPT CMC team timely rescued her from grounding and berthed her at Mooring inside the KPT channel. The overall length of

Chemtrans 1 is 117 meter, Breadth of 16 m and draft of 6 m with Gross Tonnage of 3533MT and 6058 dead weight.

Due to untiring efforts of KPT, imminent disaster of marine pollution were averted.

KPT being the natural and premier port of the Nation provides shelter to ships even during the roughest season. The port has always remain vigilant in providing facilities to shipping lines and trade communities which has translated well into results the port has nurtured over the years.

to KPT Hajj Aspirants

A10 member delegation representing various ministries and departments including KPT like FIA, Anti Narcotics,

PNSC, Customs, Immigration, etc visited the KPT Head Office on 28th July 2016 to discuss commencement of ferry service between Karachi Port (Pakistan) and Chahbahar Port (Iran). All the stakeholders related to the project including KPT attended the meeting which was chaired by KPT General Manager Operations Rear Admiral Asif Hameed SI (M).

All the issues related to the matter including the security issues came under discussion during the presentation given on the occasion by the Planning and Development Division of KPT. The procurement of ferry vessels is already underway by the PNSC and its present status was also informed to Rear Admiral Asif Hameed SI (M) during the discussions.

Later, the delegation visited the port area of Karachi Port where the ferry terminal will be constructed.

Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed inaugurated the upgraded ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of KPT hospital with state of the art equipment and facilities. The chief Medical Officer

of KPT hospital Dr Azam Ali Khawaja said on the occasion that all the latest electro medical machines like ventilator, Bipep, ABG Machine, Infusion pump, Cardiac reader machine and monitors, Defibrillators, Syringe pump, ECG and portable XRAY machine etc are present in the ICU. The 186 bedded KPT hospital is having

238 para medical staff and nurses with 47 Doctors, located in the vicinity of Keamari, is one of the best hospital amongst the Government sector hospitals. The up gradation of ICU was carried out on the instructions of Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed with an aim to provide best possible quality care treatment to the employees and officers of KPT. The Chairman KPT also inaugurated a rescue Ambulance and planted a tree in the garden of KPT hospital.

Anti Encroachment Department conducts the anti-encroachment operation with regular intervals besides 7/24 patrolling and maintains close liaison within KPT and

with KMC, Police, Civil Administration, etc. In this quarter, the department has conducted the following operations:

a. Anti Encroachment staff took actions in different areas especially Keamari, Oil Installation Area. Over hundreds of moveable and immovable encroachment removed,

apprehended 23 Culprits, 08 vehicles and handed over to KPT Police Station and lodged 11 FIRs.

b. Another combined operation conducted by Anti Encroachment Department, Port Security Force, Estate Department, Police Staff and removed 5 Container Trailers, Demolished Chapra, Damaged Cabins and recovered Plot No. 12-A “C” Group at Mai Kolachi (Area Measuring 4460 Sq. Meters) which was handed over to Estate Department.

Biometrics Installed in Port area for AttendanceThe computerized attendance through

biometrics enters a new phase through installation and commissioning of

Attendance Stations on four locations at East Wharf and on two locations at West Wharf. These have become operational since 1st September 2016 in port area of KPT. It not only provides ease to officers and workforce to mark their attendance but also enable the KPT Management to strictly monitor the attendance. The gradual shift to a computerized system by the MIS Department is well appreciated by Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed HI (M). Constant patrolling of Port Security Force and Organization Development departments have been equally acknowledged.

Pakistan Vollyball Federation Nominates Shah Naeem Zafar As Manager Pakistan Beach Vollyball Team

National Women Volleyball Championship’ 16 at KPT Sports Complex

Dy. Manager Stores, Commander (R) Muzaffar IqbalCommander (R) Muzaffar Iqbal, Deputy Manager Stores earned Certification as Certified Supply Chain Professional “CSCP” from the Institute of Operations Management APICS, USA on 3rd May 2016.

The Pakistan Volleyball Federation has nominated KPT Manager Sports Shah Naeem Zafar as Manager of Pakistan Beach Volleyball Team for the upcoming 5th Asian Games scheduled to take place in Vietnam from 24th September to 3rd October 2016.

KPT sponsored National Women Volleyball Championship 2016 at KPT Sports Complex. Eight teams from all over Pakistan have participated in the mega event which commenced from 1st to 4th September 2016. The teams of Punjab, WAPDA, KPK, Sindh, Balochistan, Army, HEC and Kashmir have participated in the event which was declared open by the Chief Guest Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed during the opening ceremony of the tournament held on 1st September at KPT Sports Complex.

Every team participated with great fanfare as the results depicts that WAPDA, the strong team of the tournament, won the championship. HEC remained second, Punjab third and Sindh fourth during the concluding tournament. The Chief Guest Mr. Doda Khan Bhutto, President Pakistan Boxing Federation, distributed medals to the teams securing position during the event.

Badminton and Cricket Activities • KPT Badminton team participated in National Senior Badminton

and National Junior Badminton championships held in Lahore from 11th to 13th August 2016 and from 16th to 21st August 2016 respectively. KPT team emerged as Runners Up in both the events.

• KPT Cricketer Hassan was selected in Pakistan-A Team that toured UK in July 2016.

Ali Umer Khair S/o Mr. Raghib-ul-KhairIt gives us great pleasure to share that Ali Umer Khair S/o Mr. Raghib-ul-Khair, General Manager (P&D) has secured 6 A* (Above 90%) and 3 A (above 80%) in his Science Group O-Level University of Cambridge UK examination. We, at KPT are very proud of him and wish him very best and hope that he will continue to improve his record of past achievements.

Safia Jamal D/o Muhammad AbidSafia Jamal, daughter of Mr. Muhammad Abid, Office Superintendent of Public Relations Department has shown outstanding performance in her studies and passed her Class-II final exams with flying colours in Rose Heaven Educational Society School. Eid Milan PartyEid Milan Party was celebrated in KPT Girls Secondary

School, Keamari on 22nd September 2016. The students decorated the classrooms and all students were dressed

up with national dresses in traditional colours. The Manager (Education), Education Officer, Headmistress and the class teachers visited the classrooms and commended the efforts of students for the party.

Each classroom displayed a unique festive ambiance of decoration. The main objective of the party was to inculcate a sense of unity, sacrifice and happiness sharing which is the essence and blessing of Eid-ul-Azha.

Ali Mardan Abbasi Promoted as Traffic Manager

Mr. Ali Mardan Abbasi, Deputy Traffic Manager promoted as Traffic Manager by the Board of Trustees after bieng sanctioned by the Federal Ministry of Ports & Shipping from 11th September 2014 while acknowledging his experience, performance and meritorious service record. He joined KPT on 29th May 1986 as Traffic Officer. Mr. Abbasi has done Masters in Business Administration as well as LLB. He has served in Traffic Department throughout his illustrious career which spans around 30 years. He joined KPT as Traffic Officer and gradually obtained promotions during his professional career. It is indeed a privelege for him to head the department in which he has served as officer.
