Steam Load Calculations

Thumb Rules for Calculations:- Laundry 1.  A 5 star hotel requires 11 kg/room of linen. 2.  Steam required for Linen is 1.4 kg/kg of linen 3.  Steam required for linen in other areas like restaurant,

bangquets, pubs, common areas will be additonal 5kg /room /day

4.  Additional steam required for laundry for employees will

be 4 Kg/room / day

Hot Water Generation: -

Hot water required for bath is 25 litres/ person /bath

AIETT and ITCC seminar on Ener Con in Hospitality Valentine Philips - +66 819020690 June 9.2016

Steam Load Calculations for 100 room hotel

Laundry: 1.  Steam load for rooms = 11 x 1.4 = 15.40 kg/room/day 2.  Steam loads for common area = 4 kg/room/day 3.  Steam load for laundry for equipment = 4 kg/day 4.  Total steam for load = 23.4 kg/room/day say 24 kg/room. 5.  For 100 rooms, total steam load = 24 x 100 = 2400 kg/room/day 6.  Assuming 8 hours of peak operation. Steam reqd =2400/8 = 300 kg/hr

Steam for Hot water: On double occupancy basis: 1.  Hot water for shower = 100 x 2 x 25 = 5000 ltr 2.  Assuming half of them will have shower in eve. So hot water Requirement will be 2500 ltr. 3.  Hot water for requirement in common areas = 7500 ltrs (double the water for bath)

AIETT and ITCC seminar on Ener Con in Hospitality Valentine Philips - +66 819020690 June 9.2016

Steam Load Calculations for 100 room hotel (Contd..)

Total Hot water requirement for the hotel = 5000 + 2500 + 7500 = 15,000 lt/day.

Hot water peak requirement will be between 5 to 9 in the morning and between 6 to 10 In the evening. Hence the total hot water requirement per hour = 15000/8 = 1875 lph Steam requirement = (1875 x 35) / 518 = 126 kg/hr (Considering inlet of cold water is at 35 and hotwater at outlet is 65 Diff temp = 35) Kitchen: Steam for kitchen will be 100 kg/hr. Hence total steam load = 300 + 126+ 100 = 526 kg/hr.

Hence the boiler capacity recommended will be 2 nos x 750 kg/hr boiler and 2 nos x 1.87 m3/hr Hot water generator (Heat Max).

How we add value to Any project: v Calculate the capacity of the boiler depending on the steam loads

and process load variations. Thereby ensuring that optimum boiler

capacity is chosen.

v Designing the system so as to ensure that maximum condensate is recovered and hence make system economical to run

v Design the piping so as to reduce the pressure drops and ensure that machines receive steam in optimum quantity and quality.

v Designing of hot water system to ensure that v Temperature fluctuations are kept to a minimum v The temperature demands are met in the optimum

manner. v System on the whole reduces losses and is economical.

Condensate Recovery Systems

Recover heat and Increase your process Efficiency !!!

AIETT and ITCC seminar on Ener Con in Hospitality Valentine Philips - +66 819020690 June 9.2016

Why Return Condensate ?

Ø  Condensate is such a valuable resource that even recovery of a small amount is economically justifiable.

Ø  Any condensate not returned will have to be replaced with make up water, hence increasing the water cost

Ø  Draining of condensate is restricted in global std plants

Ø  No Boiler derating hence the output is maximized

Ø  The condensate being pure water the cost of treating the feed water will reduce considerably.

Ø  Every 6 Deg rise in feed water temperature will reduce the fuel bill by 1% AIETT and ITCC seminar on Ener Con in Hospitality Valentine Philips - +66 819020690 June 9.2016

Mechanical Condensate recovery pump system

n  The system uses steam/compressed air as a prime mover to pump the condensate back to the feed water tank.

n  Minimum moving parts ensure that maintenance problems are removed.

n  Flash steam which is recovered from the FV can be used back into the system as LP steam

n  The energy consumed will be less than a centrifugal pump

and issues like cavitation will not be removed
