About MauritiusMauritius, known officially as the Republic of Mauritius, is a volcanic island of lagoons and palm-fringed beaches with coral reefs surrounding most of the coastline.

Mauritius is a densely populated island of around 1.2 million people. It has a reputation for stability and racial harmony among its mixed population. Mauritius is known as a plural society where all the ethnic groups present: Hindus, Muslims, Creoles, Chinese and Europeans live in peace and where all the ancestral cultures have been preserved. These features make the island a unique place in the world, and the Mauritians known for their tolerance and kindness towards all people.

Most Mauritians are bilingual being equally fluent in French and English. English is the official language, but French and Creole are widely spoken. Oriental languages also form part of the linguistic mosaic.

Mauritius has preserved its image as one of Africa’s few social and economic success stories, being a sugar and clothing exporter and a center for up market tourism. The country has also earn the reputation of a top holiday destination, but only few of the island visitors know that Mauritius is one of the leading destinations in the world.

When visiting Mauritius you are sure to benefit from an amazing selection of almost 200 activities, attractions and places of interested all waiting to discovered. From more traditional museums, parks and reserves, to extreme activities, sea cruises, island trips and many more, you will find it all! Mauritian CuisineMauritius is a mix of culture and also of cuisine. Mauritius cuisine is a mixture of Creole, Chinese, European, African and Indian. Eating in Mauritius is a real adventure. You will be able when you are in Mauritius to have in your plate everyday a different cuisine. Even Mauritius has been for a long time under the rule of the British they have kept a lot from the French cuisine. But Mauritian kept from the British the tea time in the afternoon, it is like a tradition.

Mauritian CultureMauritius is a blend of diverse cultures and religions which our immigrant population brought from their ancestral countries. Hindus, Tamils, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and others from all over the globe live in harmony and respect the free practice of all religions in Mauritius.

The music of Mauritius is known for sega music. The Sega is usually sung in Creole (mother tongue of Mauritians).

About AIESEC UoMSince 2008, AIESEC is present in Mauritius and was first introduced in University of Mauritius. AIESEC UoM was thus the first and only LC of the country at that time and started with a small amount of members and has now grown to the biggest local committee of AIESEC in Mauritius.

During the AFRO XLDS conference in March 2012, conference where all African AIESEC’ers meet to discuss about the future and the achievements of the past year, AIESEC University of Mauritius was rewarded as the Best LC in Southern Africa. This was their first recognition awarded to them by the AIESEC network, since their foundation. Recently AIESEC UoM has just been ranked as the top performing LC in the African region. Now fully confident of their impact on the people’s lives, UOM AIESEC’ers continue to move towards the achievement of their goals.

DisABILITY matters is a project for disabled children where we learn to explore their ability out of their disability by making a voice whereby overcoming their disabilities lies in their capability. We aim at encouraging these children to learn new skills and express their hidden talent (abilities) to create a genuine smile on their face and to ensure them a brighter future. This project aims at:1. Empower disabled children with appropri-ate training and mindset so that they can ef-fectively engross the quality education, skills and constant motivation that they receive for their future.2. Involve members of the Mauritian society to better understand disability and the potential of these disable people through a

special and massive sensitization campaign and event.2. Organize internal events with NGOs so that the children learn something new, express their talents and also through which parents are encouraged to participate in the curriculum of the NGOs which their children attend.3. Campaigns in school so that we can create a new thought and feeling for these disables children in the heart of students.

1. Interns are required to attend all events in regards with the project & to work in collaboration with NGOs.2. Interns are to possess a minimum level of professionalism & delicacy in dealing with disabled children and abiding to the NGOs policies.3. Interns are expected to lead classes & teach the children different skills (craft work, painting, and singing) and Organise activities (sketch or games) for the children. Interns are too bring cheap & small souvenir for the children as gift. (price giving).4. Participate in awareness campaign in communities, shelters & secondary school (12 – 19yrs). Interns are expected to be able to deliver presentation in their own & to be proactive in session.

5. Interns are required to carry out fund raising activities for the disable children. Those funds will be used for internal events of the project and for the association of disable children.6. Working time shall be from 9a.m till 3.30p.m on weekdays.7. Exchange participants will also have to be present and work for every internal or external event being organized.

The objective of this project is to educate the youngsters of Mauritius of the idea of tolerance to avoid any future discrimination or conflicts. Many people also faces a lot of discriminations because of their differing cultures, opinions, ideas. In schools, for example, many students are victims of bullying and nagging. Interns will lead classes and activities about tolerance, cooperation, diversity and internationalism.

This project aims to:1. create a more peaceful world where each and everyone’s rights are respected 2. help people understand cultural diversity and the importance of tolerance and form a healthy image of the world.

1. Attend training/coaching sessions prior to activities related to the project2. Lead classes and activities about tolerance, cooperation, diversity and internationalism for students ranging from 11 to 18 years old.3. Organize a mini event and poster display along with the OC for sharing of culture and promoting tolerance.4. Prepare and conduct a survey related to the project’s concept5. Attend a global village to be held in July6. Work on a report using data from the survey, schools and NGOs.7. Work time: From 9a.m till 3.30p.m on weekdays, interns might be required to work on some Saturdays as well especially for events.

This project’s aim is to have firstly an impact on elderly people and to raise the importance of having elder people, the case of violence and the respect towards them before the eyes of youngsters throughout Mauritius.

Moreover we would go to some community centre, day care centre so as to entertain the elders by having some literacy course, yoga, dance, performing dance to the elders among others. We would organize some events so as to collect money and buy some basic stuff for the elderly people.

1. Interns are required to be willing to work and patient with elders.2. Trainings and workshops are obligatory to attend.3. Awareness campaign in primary and sec-ondary schools (12-19 years old). Interns are requested to bring small and cheap souvenirs as gifts for students as gifts (to be used as quiz competition rewards)4. Interns are required carry out fund raising for activities the elderly people. They are required to go to each event and help. Apart from Global village the use of your accessories will be needed in internal and external events.5. Knowledge of how to play a musical instrument OR to sing for the elders, OR have a know-how of Zumba, meditation, yoga or any such skills which will be a great

advantage and very helpful in this project. 6. Interns will be required to create a scenario for a sketch for the children to illustrate the elders.6. Interns are required to be actively participating in tasks proposed by the Organising Committee, Day cares and NGO.

As leaders of tomorrow, AIESECers have always taken up development issues that are of relevance to society. Gender inequality and domestic violence have been among the major issues that have been affecting the Mauritian society throughout the years.Any new development framework must prioritise gender equality and women empowerment and implement social policies and programmes, to promote, child welfare, family welfare as well as welfare of the com-munity. The aim is to raise awareness on gender inequality present in Mauritius and its consequences on both men and women. It also seeks to encourage Mauritians to promote equal rights and gender equality, so as to have a better social and economic stability.

In an era whereby modern thoughts are taking over, we should not hesitate to talk openly about and combat an issue like AIDS. Let’s raise awareness about AIDS! Let’s send this message across to the society that we all should choose our good selves, we all should choose a good health! Together we can, and we will!

Objectives of this project are:1. To raise awareness, especially among the youth (targeting college students, youths aged between 18-30)2. Making people aware of the ways in which they can be infected by HIV/AIDS3. Breaking the taboo of openly speaking about ‘safe sex’ and ‘use of condoms’ in the society

The main aim of this project is to provide education to under privileged children and to children with certain difficulties. Through this project the children will be able to show their hidden talents to the world and this may help them to be employed in future.

“The Wildlife Saviours” is a project aim-ing at making people aware about how the wildlife environment is affected by human activities. This project will make people, mostly the youth who are the new genera-tion, realize how important wildlife is and how directly or indirectly our life depends on it. It will make people conscious about their negative activities which affect the wildlife. The “Wildlife Saviours” project will impact on the society at large for everyone to have a hand in conserving the wildlife environment.It will speak for the ones without a voice. It will help people in realizing that wildlife is not an extinction but an endangered one, which means that we, people, still have time to do the necessary to protect it . Sensitizing the general public and specially the youth is a small part of work.

Putting in actions what we are learning is how we can conserve and protect the endangered wildlife. Main objectives of the project are to:1. Awaken an awareness and understanding of the balance of nature and vital roles ani-mal play in the environment.2. Sensitize about ways to realize conserva-tion of wildlife and the environment.

Save Our Seas was conceptualised following the unattended concerns about the state of coral reefs and the marine environment in Mauritius. Our aim is to lead the development, coordination and delivery of a programme of inspiring environmental education and community marine awareness activities linked to our Save Our Seas work.Save Our Seas will target mainly the most affected areas. The main focus of this project would be the actions of the youth. We believe that it is crucial for us, youngsters to act sustainably. This starts by inciting conservation via sensitization and assisting the leading non-profit environmental organisations in their daily activities.

The objectives of this project are:

1. Sensitize a minimum of 1500 people or more in Mauritius. 2. To encourage about 800 young Mauri-tiansand encourage them to protect the sea.2. To empower 5 young people to become future leaders for social welfare. 3. To provide rich examples for surrounding countries can follow.7. To lead on the development, coordination and delivery of a programme of inspiring environmental education and communi-ty marine awareness activities linked to our ocean and life work.
