1 Overview

AICCF team leagues were introduced in 2016 based on a suggestion by Mamta Bisht. The first league was organized by Dr. Ambar Chatterjee and started on March 18,2016.

The original suggestion was to have teams set up based on ratings, so that each team hasplayers of similar rating, and winning teams would play in a higher bracket and losingteams in a lower bracket.

Currently, the league is organized as a 5-board team championship between four teams(Team A, B, C and D, with captains Rohan Saxena, Shyam Challappally, AnkurSingh and Umesh Nair). Each team consists of players of varying strength, with theteams having approximately same average rating and each board has players of approx-imately same ratings.1

As far as AICCF system is concerned, it consists of six double-round, 5-player teamtournaments (T002 or T007). See Section 3 for the details with current status.

It can also be considered as five 4-player, double round-robin tournaments (one for eachboard). See Section 4 for the details with current status.

This document serves as a report of the 2016-’17 league championship, with gamesannotated by the players. It is edited and typeset by Umesh Nair, and the analysis ofgames is by him unless otherwise stated.

1Throughout this document, the ratings at the start of the event, i.e., the ratings for February 2016,(both the old ratings and the new Glicko2 ratings) are used. Both the The players gain and loserating points throughout the event.

A22: English Opening: Anglo-Indian

A poor choice of opening landed White into serious trouble and costed a pawn.Satyajit skillfully exploited the advantage and won the endgame with precisemoves.

This move has more venom than 8. . .QXe29 BXe2 where White has a freer game. I sawthis rare line when Anil K. Anand played itagainst me in 12-EM-4282, in the pre-enginesera. Anil did get an upper hand in the game, and it is suicidal for me to repeat the samevariation here.
