Currently, the US is the leading constructor of scrubber systems, but only 222 systems were installed on utility units between 1968 and 2004. This means that even though new scrubbers will be mandated, the US will not be able to maintain its position as number one producer of FGD plants and China will surpass the US coal-fired utility capacity between 2010-2012. Germany is third, with 100 FGD units and more under construction, while there are a number of FGD projects being installed in other countries, including India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Chile.. Most of the FGD systems now planned or under construction will utilize limestone which contacts the gas as wet slurry, McIlvaine says. In approximately 15% of the projects lime is injected in fluidized beds or through spray drying. Suppliers of wastewater treatment systems in the US are experiencing rising demand for their products as some 300 US wastewater treatment systems are adding new plants, expanding existing plants, or revising these plants to meet new effluent or odour control standards, says McIlvaine’s US municipal wastewater treatment facilities and people database. According to the company, the largest numbers of expansions are in the large states with relatively fast growth, such as Arizona, Texas, California, Colorado, and Florida. Most of these new plants and expansions are due to odour control, beneficial sludge reuse, and improvement in effluent quality, while in arid states, wastewater reclamation and reuse is the basis for new investment. www.mcilvainecompany.com News from McIlvaine Move into pipeline products and wastewater technologies for ADS ADS LLC, a subsidiary of Nova Analytics Corp, has acquired Severn Trent Services’ Pipeline Products and Services group.
