Level Set on SOW

SOW stands for “Statement of Work” Type of contract used by buyers and sellers of

services that captures and defines unique and

specific details of deliverables or professional-

based services

Scope, deliverables, milestones, timelines, pricing,

SLAs, acceptance criteria, etc. used to ensure

mutual accountability

From a business process or workflow perspective the unique

variables of the SOW lifecycle are important because:

No two SOWs are alike

Category specific workflows

Vendors are aligned by service type, based on client

segmentation

Sourcing processes are more complex than contingent labor

Non-standard SOW development, review, approvals, etc., come

into play

Contract compliance and financial controls are more complex

“SOW-based services” is a broad

reference to labor-based service

categories that utilize SOWs for

transactional governance...

Case Study: Financial Services

The customer’s strategic initiative was to gain holistic visibility and management across all of

their contingent resources including contractors, consulting services and managed services.

This change would address concerns of the current process including:

Inefficiencies and non-compliance issues in procurement and contracting processes

Lack of transparency in the process of engaging and selecting SOW suppliers

Lack of reporting and analytics for SOW engagements

Implemented SOW module in VMS

Increased competitive bidding

Simplified accrual management, travel expense tracking

Reduced number of after-the-fact SOWs automated/improved controls around on/off-

boarding, reconciled payment terms, time cards and expense, and measurable cycle

times regarding vendor responsiveness and compliance to customer policies

Process efficiencies enabled 100 percent compliance with on and off-boarding requirements

and a cost avoidance of more than $50M in the first year due to AGS assessment of initially

classified SOW projects now being moved into the staff augmentation program.
