here are many reasons for this phe-nomenal growth. Compact tractors are much smaller than normal farm

tractors and this makes them perfect for those roles that need machinery less awk-ward than normal and bigger tractors.

The small size also helps them to be much quicker and they are generally thought to be the easiest gear to use for most roles.

Compact tractors are notorious for be-ing great for beginners and because they are far smaller than regular tractors can be manoeuvred extremely easily and also can be employed on more complex terrains and the most awkward of nooks and crannies.

The small size of these tractors enables the user to finish a job with almost no ef-fort and because they’re said to be faster, in a much shorter time frame.

Siromer tractors are expanding their range to include a larger chassis 35hp 4cyl tractor. The Siromer 354 now heads the new generation EU range providing higher horse power and torque with 8 forward and 2 reverse gears.

Most other specifications remain the same as on the existing range including double acting spool valves, selectable 4wd, electronic dash, semi flat deck, ratchet hand

round 50 John Deere dealers across the UK and Ireland will be hosting a series of Gator Ex-

perience Days throughout the month of April, with some additional dates in March and May. Potential customers will be invited to a one-day event where they will not only be able to put the lat-est Gator models to the test in challeng-ing off-road conditions, but also dis-cover a range of John Deere solutions including parts availability, financing and PowerGard warranty extensions. A special 0% finance offer will be available for customers who buy a Gator within 14 days of attending their local event.

The Gator Experience Days are aimed at all potential utility vehicle customers such as farmers and landowners, game-keepers, landscapers, contractors, local authorities, commercial amenity and property managers, turf and ground-scare professionals – the list is endless.

A dedicated website where custom-ers can register www.JohnDeere.com/testdrivers – has been specially created, and contains information about dates and locations for the various events that

of utility vehicles in the industry, with 11 models to choose from altogether, from the compact CX Gator up to the new XUV 855D Gator with power steer-ing. Gator utility vehicles are ideal for a wide range of transporting, loading, hauling and general materials handling duties, and are equally at home in heavy mud or on delicate sports turf areas. They feature a low centre of gravity for extra safety and stability, as well as a good power to weight ratio. Options in-clude a range of different tyres, full cabs, road homologation kits and many other accessories.

New vehicles available for test drive include the 854cc XUV 855D Gator, the fastest and most powerful diesel utility vehicle in the John Deere line-up, with a top speed of 52kph (32mph), as well as the recently introduced mid-duty XUV

550 and XUV 550 S4 cross-over vehi-cles. These two petrol models offer cus-tomers the choice of a two- or four-pas-senger vehicle, and are the perfect fit for both work and recreation.

The rest of the John Deere Gator range includes electric, petrol and diesel models with two- and four-wheel drive, designed to provide the right machine for any application, from estates, farms, golf courses, parks and sports grounds to airports, construction sites, shows & events, hotels and zoos – Gators have even worked in the Antarctic!

John Deere’s comprehensive Gator range is supported by a national net-work of specialist servicing dealers offering 24/7 parts availability, low-cost or interest-free finance from John Deere Financial, and new John Deere PowerGard. This is a straightforward solution to equipment servicing and re-pair work that is designed to help cus-tomers budget for the total cost of own-ership, and keep their Gator running trouble-free for the life of the vehicle.

will be treated to a Hog Roast and some mouth-watering special offers on selected McCormick tractors.

“We haven’t had an open day for some years and thought it was time to thank customers for their support and remind everyone about what we do here,” says Mike Pullin of P & D Engineering. “Since starting the business with my wife Penny in 1976, the company has earned a good reputation for servicing and repairing farmers’ machinery.

“But in recent years, since taking on the

McCormick tractor and Merlo telescop-ic handler franchises, we’ve been much more active supplying new machines needed by farmers and contractors in the area.”

The Open Day at P & D Engineering’s premises off Fleet Lane, Bredon, Glouces-tershire on Wednesday, March 6, will start at 11am and run through to around 8pm in the evening. Manufacturers will stage their own exhibits to show the latest products and technology available for ef-ficient livestock and arable farming.

Salesman Anthony Wilkes says: “We’ll have some cracking deals on McCormick MC and MTX tractors – ideal for someone wanting a proven and straight-forward, reliable ma-chine that’s excellent value for money.

“Among the tractors on display will be examples of the 22-54hp Mc-Cormick X10 compacts and the 92-121hp McCormick X60 that replaced the popular CX range;” Anthony adds. “Also, the 150-232hp line-up of X70 six-cylinder tractors now replac-ing the XTX and TTX models.”

New Merlo telehandlers, grassland machinery from Vicon, a new fran-chise taken on by P & D Engineering last year, Farr ATVs, Reco ploughs and power harrows, Köckerling cul-tivators and drills, BvL diet feeders and sheep and cattle handling sys-tems from Modulamb and Ritchie will also feature on the day, together with a good selection of second-hand tractors and equipment.

“We’ll also have a Grand Draw with lots of prizes from manufacturers to support the local air ambulance service and our retail store stocking a wide range of tools, accessories, consumables and clothing will also be open,” says Mike Pullin. “Visitors can also look around the workshops, where our five service engineers, led by service manager Dave Brown, prepare new equipment and make repairs, and talk to parts manager Ja-son Middlecote about the extensive spares stock we carry.”

fter 22 years with Vicon, south west area key ac-count manager Stuart Hamilton retired from the company at the end of 2012.

Prior to joining the business in 1988, Stuart spent nine years working for an MF dealer in the south west, han-dling sales and demonstrations. He joined a new busi-ness, MF Implements, as area manager for Wales, South England and the South West, which went through chang-es of ownership to become part of the Kverneland Group.

Stuart’s position has been filled by 33-year old Alan Rowdon. He joins Vicon after a two-year period with Twose of Tiverton, as sales manager for the south west and Wales. Prior to this role, he spent two years with Case IH dealership Dayment & Skelton at Totnes, Devon.

A farmer’s son with dairy farming and contracting experience, Alan brings considerable knowledge of ma-chinery to his role of Vicon key account manager for the south west.

In the north west region, 33-year old Steve Basnett has returned to the Vicon brand after three and a half years with New Holland, where he spent two years as tractor product marketing specialist in the UK, prior to which he spent 18 months in the firm’s European demonstration team.

Steve first joined Vicon in 2005, working with the Vi-con Challenge demonstration team. He has successfully gained a BSC in agriculture with land and farm manage-ment, studying at Harper Adams University.

KEY CHANGES TO THE VICON TEAM

A ase IH has announced that the only Silver Edition Mag-num 340 to come to the UK will be auctioned for charity later this year. Profits from the sale will be donated to the

new Prince’s Countryside Fund’s Emergency Relief Fund which supports farming and rural crisis charities. The special tractor is a limited edition based on the flagship 374hp Magnum 340 which Case IH has produced to mark 25 years of Magnum pro-duction at its factory at Racine in Wisconsin.

The initiative by Case IH will boost the new Emergency Relief Fund, which aims to raise £1 million to assist farmers who are struggling financially. The charity says that the recent difficult weather, combined with other pressures, has led to some farm-ers’ incomes falling by more than 50% this year, increasing the pressure on already hard-pressed rural charities. It is the brain-child of the Prince of Wales, who has a long-held commitment to supporting Britain’s rural areas.

Making the announcement, Charles Blessley, UK Marketing Manager for Case IH, stated: “Our business has been built on meeting the needs of the farming sector, so we are delighted to be able to assist the Prince’s Countryside Fund. Raising money for such a worthy cause is a fitting way to recognise a landmark in the history of a tractor which has made such a valuable con-tribution to UK agriculture.

Victoria Elms of the Prince’s Countryside Fund added: “We are delighted to have Case IH’s support towards our ultimate goal of raising £1m to benefit farmers who are suffering at this difficult time.”

Since the original Magnum was launched in 1988 this high-ly-respected model has been at the forefront of high-horsepow-er tractor design and continues to set industry standards in terms of its technical innovation, power and performance. The current five-model line-up, ranging from the Magnum 235 to the Magnum 340, continues to meet the power, durability, com-fort and productivity needs of large-scale farmers in the UK.

In a test of large tractors published recently by Farmers Week-ly the Magnum 340 model was singled out for its strong engine and efficient automatic transmission, while being highly rated for its fuel consumption, linkage lift capacity, hydraulic power, load capacity and turning circle.

he latest cohort to join New Holland’s nationwide sales team gained another layer of expert knowledge thanks to a special training programme run at this year’s LAMMA

show, the UK’s largest farm machinery event. More than 40 new recruits from dealerships around the coun-try were given first-hand tuition on the array of state-of-the-art equipment on display at the Newark show ground in Notting-hamshire on January 16th-17th. Seizing on the opportunity of having so many different models in one place, New Holland organised sessions ranging from com-bines, balers and self-propelled forage harvesters to the T6, T7, T8 and T9 tractor models. The T4 Powerstar, TD5, T5, LM5000 were also on the programme as well as New Holland’s Precision Land Management range of products. It meant having to battle the harsh weather to get the New Hol-land stand prepared half a day early in order to hold the training sessions, which are so helpful for staff assisting buyers to choose the right equipment and after sales care.Customers seemed convinced too: the New Holland stand suc-cessfully sold 23 products during the LAMMA show, including four combine harvesters.Dealer Principal Mark Farrell, from Somerset-based Hawkins Agri, sent three of his salesmen to the programme and said it had been an “excellent” experience.“It was an especially good idea to have the training just before the show. It obviously refreshed everyone’s memory and also em-phasised the new products, features and benefits. It was excellent.“There was very low cost for us because we were coming to the show anyway. And as an introduction to New Holland for the new salesmen it gave a really good grounding through the whole range of products.”New Holland Tractor Sales Specialist Andrew Mitchell, from the Agricar Ltd dealership based in Forfar, added: “It was so useful combining the LAMMA display with the training. It gave us all the chance to meet colleagues and pick up fresh insight into mod-els we might not be so familiar with.“Hearing about the new technology improvements, such as the T5 Electro-Command, helped us pass on even more information to the customers and answer their questions. It was also an inspi-ration to try to boost our sales.”New Holland Marketing Manager Dick Spencer said: “This was a perfect opportunity to deliver expert training and I have nothing but the highest praise for my team who delivered the courses.“The feedback from the dealers was that they thought it was first class and they want more! It shows the premium our dealerships up and down the country place on having expert staff who can offer the very best service to customers.

istance from farm to field, often increases with farm size. This means furrow presses fully-mounted on the plough,

offer a practical and time-saving solution by avoiding the need for a separate transport tractor.

With its FlexPack, LEMKEN is presenting just such an integrat-ed packer, which can deal easily with variable working widths for mounted and semi-mounted ploughs.

In contrast to previous packers, with their fixed working widths, the new FlexPack automatically adapts to the working width of the plough, because the packer frame runs parallel to the plough frame. This avoids strips of land being double pressed when the plough does not utilise its maximum working width. Only the new FlexPack guarantees uniform reconsolidation of the soil. An-other advantage is the fact that the FlexPack is also used during ploughing of the first furrow, and the packer can be used both at the headland and side edges of the field.

versized lawn and no time to tackle it? Why not spend more time enjoying

the garden and less time tending to it, with Kubota’s new powerful T1880 ride-on mower.

Building on Kubota’s long standing legacy of quality and reliability, the T1880’s perfor-mance packs a powerful-punch thanks to its wider cutting width and mulching facility, putting an end to emptying pesky grass boxes.

Powered by an 18hp petrol engine, the ride-on mower features hydrostatic transmission (HST) with a single pedal, making speed and directional changes extremely smooth. Cruise control for a constant mowing speed and a one-step parking brake, ensure that the T1880 is both simple to use and uniquely fun to drive.

The adjustable cutting height, controlled from a simple dial system at the base of the operators seat, ensures that you can easily switch from fine lawn work to rougher areas of the garden.

The T1880 also features Kubota’s innovative ‘infinity’ mower deck, providing the unit with a cutting width of over a metre. In addition, the ‘infinity deck’ also allows the user to quick change between three different cutting modes, including a mulching mode – completely removing the need to empty any grass boxes, and encouraging a richer, greener lawn.

Featuring an easily adjustable high back seat and Kubo-ta’s ‘Cushion Ride’ suspension system, which features two-spring-loaded shock absorbers and a flat operator platform, for easy mounting and dismounting, the T1880 ride-on mower provides an unrivalled smooth ride.

obcat has launched the new TR38160 rotary telehandler which replaces the company’s

previous TR35160 model. The new TR38160 telehandler now offers a higher maximum lifting capacity of 3.8 tonne compared to 3.5 tonne in the TR35160 and a maximum lifting height of 15.7 m.

The TR38160 is the smallest model in the range of four Bobcat rotary tele-handlers offering lifting capacities from 3.8 to 5.0 tonne. Unlike the TR38160 model, which features a two-section tel-escopic boom, the TR45190, TR50210 and TR40250 models have three-sec-tion booms, offering maximum lifting heights of 18.7, 20.5 and 24.5 m, respec-tively.

Equally adept for rough terrain appli-cations in the building, civil engineer-ing and industrial markets, the Bobcat rotary telehandler models complement the existing Bobcat range of 13 rigid frame telehandlers with lift capacities from 2.2 to 4.0 tonne and lift heights from 5.2 to 17.4 m.

B platform ready for use with a choice of 10 different man platform models. The latter form part of a complete line of attachments for use with the TR38160 telehandler, including extension jibs, buckets and pallet forks. Versatility is further increased by the increased lift-ing capacity of the TR38160 which al-lows the use of the machine with the 3.8 tonne winch with cable guide, ensuring smoother and faster operation.

The comprehensive choice of at-tachments for the TR38160, TR45190, TR50210 and TR40250 rotary tele-handlers allows them to offer all the operational advantages of a rigid-frame telescopic handler combined with those of a light and versatile rotating crane.

The 360o (for the TR50210, TR40250 and TR45190) or 400o (for the TR38160) rotating capability of the Bobcat rotary telehandlers allows the machines to serve the needs of an en-tire site from just one position. Capable of being set up in a matter of minutes, they offer exceptional stability for lift-ing heavy materials either vertically up to a roof or horizontally onto the edge of an excavated site, reducing construc-tion time and costs and increasing safe-ty and efficiency on site.

t’s ready, willing and able to take on any job you give it. The Mechron is a multi-tasker for the modern age – combining best-in-class power

and build quality with rugged good looks and more than a touch of refinement for both driver and pas-sengers.

With the Mechron, ultimate 4x4 performance comes with the territory. Thanks to 4-wheel, fully independ-ent dual A-arm rear suspension and a wide stance, it delivers incredible stability and a super-smooth ride over the roughest terrain. And if you’re in a tight spot? The tight turning circle and rear anti-sway bar guar-antee you superb cornering. So come on and get ac-quainted with the Mechron. You’re in for quite a ride.

The heart of this machine is the durable, proven Kio-ti diesel power unit. This robust engine delivers 22HP from its three cylinders, but the rated speed of 2,800 rpm is lower than most competitors – so you benefit from better fuel economy, longer engine life and a qui-eter ride. When it comes to the continuously variable transmission, the equally durable gearbox delivers Hi/Lo speeds and 4WD.

The Mechron is a brilliantly balanced workhorse that benefits from excellent weight distribution with a full payload. And what a payload! The (56”) world’s wid-est cargo bed with 500kg capacity is unrivalled for this class of vehicle, so you can haul more on every trip. And with the optional hydraulic tip kit, you can easily offload a heavy cargo without unnecessary hard work.

We’ve seen the quality, now it’s time to feel the com-fort of the widest 3-seater on the market. The con-toured bench guarantees a relaxing ride, with the pair of 2-point retractor seat belts and centre belt fitted as standard. In the cockpit, the stylish dashboard has er-gonomically designed controls for easy, relaxed driv-ing whilst the neat and handy storage areas add to the modern-day convenience.

This is the go-anywhere, do-anything Kioti Mechron
