Digital TransformationThe BCS partnered with Squiz in 2018 for delivery of a new website, CRM system and conference management system.

Progress so far has had a number of delays but the web site has been launched and work is ongoing to finalise the membership systems.

Work is continuing on the Conference website and the development of the Affiliated Societies websites.

We are in negotiation with Squiz at this time to finalise the work and obtain a robust timescale for this. To facilitate this we have established DPOG.

ACCEA UpdateOwing to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on NHS staff, the Advisory Committee on

Clinical Excellence Awards took the decision to suspend the awards this year.

Changes to the Constitution of the BCSOver the last few months there have been a number of changes made to the Constitution of the

BCS (“the Rules”) to reflect the change in membership categories.

In addition, there have been changes to the Committee / Working Group sections to ensure that members attend a minimum of 75% of meetings and play an active part in the business of the

Committee / Working Group. I have written to all Committee Chairs to advise them of the changes in the Rules.

Formalising the process for managing BCS input to consultations

• Requests for BCS input come from a range of bodies and societies for various different purposes

• The requests reach BCS through a variety of avenues, often with a limited timeframe for responding, e.g. NICE/NHSE Rapid COVID-19 Guidelines

• It is crucial that high quality advice is provided by the BCS in order to ensure, as far as is possible, that the final documents are themselves high quality and relevant to cardiologists in the UK

• The process for fielding and responding to requests for input to consultations by the BCS has been formalised and its governance enhanced, with internal peer review and sense checking of its submission, so that BCS responses are always of the desired quality

Budget Summary 2020- Budget for 2020 is predicted as neutral.

- We remain committed to our goal, as set out at last year’s AGM, to consistently bring operational costs in line withincome by 2022.

- The key areas that will enable the financial sustainability for the society are:- Increasing member numbers- Delivering profitable or break even education courses- Continuing a successful partnership with the BMJ- Supporting and support from Affiliate groups - Support from partners, including industry, for continued and alternative methods of delivering educational content

to members- Income from and growth of an investment portfolio

- The overall position of BCS reserves is healthy and is sufficient to cover over two years of annual resources and theanticipated downturn in the economy.

- The current cash flow indicates that the Society has sufficient funds in 2020, with no need to draw down capital fromthe investments fund.

publish in.

Heart publishes research across the spectrum of clinical cardiovascular disease.

Heart continues to improve the quality of published research by providing resources to authors before submission as well as enhancing data presentation during the review process.

Heart provides a rapid and fair review process that encourages authors to submit to the journal.

Heart embraces digital media to promote education and science in cardiovascular medicine.
