1.0 President’s Report Alhamdulillah, the Malaysian Society for Engineering & Technology (MySET) is in its 14th year of operation. It has over 10,000 members with three full time executive staff serving, and soon will be having its fully owned premise. The due process of acquiring the building, which is within the vicinity of the Atmosphere and next to an MRT station with the LDP Highway close by, will be completed insya Allah before the last quarter of the year. I would like to thank MySET members, as well as the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries (FEIIC) Kuala Lumpur Regional Office and the public at large who had contributed to the purchase of the building. We will be operating at two premises shortly, the Atmosphere and UPM, to cater for the expansion of MySET activities. MySET is immensely indebted to the management of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and especially so with the management of the Faculty of Engineering, UPM for hosting it since inception. The MySET Atmosphere building is also timely as the country is affected by the uncertainties for nearly two years with the COVID 19 pandemic, where access to the UPM premise is limited. Much of the face to face meetings, courses, assessments and visits are also highly affected with the pandemic. As expected our income has taken its toll but Alhamdulillah thanks to the prudent spending we are wading the situation with our strong savings. Our policy of financial sustainability has paid for now. Just like many organisations out there the pandemic setback also created an opportunity to leverage on the digital communication. Meetings are better attended via virtual mode. Members can continue to provide their voluntary services via online. The new norm has strengthened our effort to go digital. The MySET Council and members have worked tirelessly for the past years to build up this organization to what it is today, a recognised professional learned body responsible for the Engineering and Technology domains. MySET has risen from strength to strength despite the challenges faced. MySET works closely with other engineering bodies in the country, such as assisting Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) in conducting its Professional Assessment Examination (PAE) for engineers, and Malaysia Board of Technology (MBOT) in conducting its Professional Competency Assessment (PCA) for professional technologist and certified technician. Recently MySET was requested to contribute in the development of the Professional Engineering Technologist and Certified Engineering Technician pathways for BEM, including its assessment processes. MySET is also well represented in the BEM Engineering Technology Accreditation Council which is responsible for accreditation of all engineering technology and engineering technician education programmes. With the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, MySET is part of the FEIIC Malaysia joint committee. MySET members have also spearheaded many of the ground breaking tasks such as to bring the technical profession of aircraft maintenance engineers and marine engineers into the fold the engineering fraternity, with the recognition at engineers, engineering technologists and engineering technician (inspector of works) levels at BEM. MySET continues to work closely with the FEIIC to organize activities at the international and national levels. MySET chairs the FEIIC Engineering Qualification, Accreditation and Professional System (EQAPS) project. The latest addition is the FEIIC Engineers Register Secretariat which is responsible to register FEIIC Professional Engineers. The Register was launched in November 2019 and had been delayed as the result of the pandemic but now opens for registration with a one-off registration fee for potential professional engineers. The Malaysian Research and Education Foundation (MyREF) continues to be the humanitarian arm of MySET specifically in research and education. In the area of knowledge dissemination, we continue to publish our e-magazine known as ET Magazine to share knowledge and experience with MySET members. MySET Facebook appears to attract a number of new registrants daily. Our Portal is regularly updated with news and information for members. Indeed there are numerous works that MySET can undertake and I strongly urge that we ramp up our voluntary efforts for the betterment of the engineering and technology fraternity at both national and international levels.
