Research interests: Neuroplasticity and how it affects recovery of function in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and how we can use that information to help patients with other neurological diseases such as stroke, Alzheimer's, MS, Parkinson's, etc., Functional characterization of brain regions and their connectivity in normal and diseased states, and improving patient diagnosis and care after TBI.

Katmai Eye and Vision Center, Chairman of the Board for the Alaska Brain Injury Network. Dr. Lentfer has enjoyed practicing in Alaska since 1996. It’s the place she loves to live and play with her family and friends. After growing up in Alaska, Dr. Lentfer graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and The Eye Institute in 1996 with clinical honors. Dr. Lentfer is co-owner of Katmai Eye and Vision Center, where she provides general optometry care and neuro-vision therapy. She also volunteers as a provider with ABIN’s Brain Injury Screening Clinics. Dr. Lentfer is the past president of the Alaska Optometric Association, legislative key person for the Alaska Optometric Association, member of the national Alaska Optometric Association, Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association, Optometric Extension Program, and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. Presentation: Case Study workshop Bios: Dr. Cantarini has been a RN for 10 years and a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner for 24 years. She has independently practiced in primary care and been a forerunner in bringing evidence to practice and improving the quality of health care. She is faculty at the University of Washington in the Doctor of Nursing Practice programs for 13 years instructing all programs and specifically family practice. Her teaching includes evidence based methods. Her most recent curriculum development is on concussion management in primary care. Dr. Bailey, is a board-certified family physician of 30 years. Presentation: Latest research findings and clinical advances in neurophysiology for TBI Bio: Neurophysiologist. Dr. David Tate is a clinical neuropsychologist trained at Brigham Young University and Brown Medical School. He is heavily involved in medical imaging research used to examine a number of developmental, clinical, and medical disorders including traumatic brain injury and HIV. Dr. Tate has held faculty appointments at Brown University, Boston University, Harvard Medical School, and University of Texas Health Science Center. Dr. Tate has an active funded research program that explores the biological and cognitive benefits of cognitive rehabilitation treatments for service members with a traumatic brain injury. He also supports the Neuroimaging Core for the Chronic Effects of Neurotrauma Consortium (CENC) which is a multicenter DoD/VA funded collaborative effort to study the long-term effects of mild traumatic brain injury among US service members and veterans. In addition, he has begun working with researchers examining the imaging and cognitive effects high altitude flying has on pilots working in decompressed environments.

Dr. Elisabeth Wilde Presentation: Latest research findings concerning TBI Bio: Dr. Elisabeth Wilde is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Utah and an Associate Professor in the Departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurology and Radiology at Baylor College of Medicine. After 12 years of practicing in Seattle, she had the fortunate opportunity to move to Alaska. Its people, beauty, wilderness, and adventure makes her so happy and proud to call Alaska home. Dr. Kompkoff is co-owner of Katmai Eye and Vision Center, where she provides general optometry care and neuro-vision therapy. Rebecca Young, LPC, Certified Brain Injury Specialist Presentation: Counseling for the TBI patient Bio: I am Inupiaq and Cuban raised here in Anchorage, Alaska. I provide brief individual and family counseling for children and adults. My specialties include trauma, grief/loss, child/adolescent development, relationship issues, and stage of life adjustment.
