Dr Douglas Farenick, Dean of Science and Dr Malek Mouhoub, Department Head were welcomed into the
meeting at 8:45am.
Dr Mouhoub went through his report he submitted to CCAM in November 2017 and provided updates
the department has had since that time. Some of the updates noted are as follows:
- Department granted permission to hire a three year term in Cyber Security. A new master’s program
in Cyber Security is also being developed.

- Space reallocation within the Department.
- Collaboration within the Department and other Departments on campus including a joint program in
Software Engineering.
- Collaboration with First Nations University with Computer Science 100. The Department has
recommended to be involved with the hiring for the classes and labs.
The discussion continued with questions from members of CCAM and answers from Dr Farenick and Dr
Mouhoub.
The Chair thanked the Dean and Department Head for their presentation. They left the meeting at
9.07am.
5. Faculty of Nursing Academic Unit Review and Accreditation
The Faculty of Nursing is scheduled to complete an Academic Unit Review in 2022-23. The SCBScN
program has received a two year extension with the program approval expiring in 2023. The program
approval and accreditation will now expire at the same time. With the nationally-accredited program
review and accreditation in 2023, work on an Academic Unit Review will become a duplication in work.
J Krammer/ T Chase: Motion to exclude a formal Academic Unit Review in lieu of the national
accreditation process in the Faculty of Nursing.

6. The Future of the Master’s Degree
Discussion had by CCAM members around the future of master’s degrees. Ideas mentioned are as
follows:
- Mention of caution around this kind of thinking as the student could be missing steps that might help
provide experience and added knowledge that is only gained over time.
- Coming from certain disciplines and not from the University as a whole.
- The more we tie degrees to certain trends in enrolments, resources become tied up while students
are not always guaranteed to stay in that department.
This topic will be brought forward to upcoming CCAM meetings to continue to conversation.
7. Documentation for Engineering and Applied Science and Social Work’s Self-Studies
Due to the amount of physical documentation from the reaccreditation process, information on how to
find this documentation will be available on each respective AUR webpage and will be stored in the
Deans’ Office.
8. Other Business/ Adjournment
No other business.
The meeting ended at 9:27am
