Optional Device Level Ring (DLR)
• Faster CPUExisting CompactLogix 5370 controllers
• Integrated Motion support (ERM models)– Fully scalable motion solution with at least one ERM catalog in each series– Up to 16 axis supported on unmodified Ethernet network– Average 2axis/ms with 2x faster application program execution– Support all motion instruction including Kinematics
• Dual Ethernet Port– Linear/Star/Ring Topology capable– Ethernet switch that supports Device Level Ring (DLR)
• allows user to connect the Ethernet network in a ring topology
• provides resiliency from loss of one network connection
• allows replacement of devices one at a time without stopping production (similar to star topology)
• includes ring supervisor capability (same as ETAP or 1756-EN2TR)
• reduces the number of Ethernet switches in the system which reduces cost
– Open socket capabilities• up to 32 sockets available• supports packets size of up to 500 bytes• send using existing MSG command• Modbus/TCP supported programmatically using
sample code

CompactLogix 5370 PACs Hardware Overview
• USB Type B port– USB 2.0 communicating at full-speed (12mb/s)– Improved performance for flashing firmware, uploads and downloads, on-line edits, and bridging to
the backplane– Device only, not a host
• no ASCII communications via USB– for ASCII applications use 1769-ASCII or 1769-SM2 or 1734 ASCII module
• no connection to visualization or other USB devices– Connect to PC using a standard USB Type B cable– Typical usage:
• Flash firmware• Upload/Downloads• Mode changes• Bridge to the backplane• Online edits
• Performance improvement for firmware flashing– 15 x faster firmware flashing speed compared to serial ports

CompactLogix 5370 PACs Hardware Overview
• Removable Secure Digital (SD) memory card– Industrially rated and certified Secure Digital card
• 1784-SD1 (1GB) – Ships with controller• 1784-SD2 (2GB)
– Faster reads and writes compared to Compact Flash– Auto load of program upon power up– New capabilities in the 5370 controllers
• Application/Project storage• Firmware Supervisor• Runtime tag data read/write• Fault Dump during MNRF(Major Non Recoverable Faults)
• Battery-less Energy Storage– Eliminates maintenance, transportation and environmental issues associated with lithium
batteries– Embedded in every new CompactLogix5370 controller

ControlLogix 557x Hardware Overview
•New faster CPU –2x+ performance improvement over L6x for standard apps–2x the process loops and 2x number of defined tags for Process–Cuts in ½ Crossload times for high availability systems–Up to 2.5x+ faster application prog. motion command/logic exec.
•Enhanced SDRAM memory for Automation Control–Faster and more robust reads & writes–Controller Scaling based on application memory (2MB to 32MB)
•On-board 4-character display provides–Enhanced controller diagnostics, runtime & health information.
•Embedded SD card – 1 GB shipped with each controller
•Energy Storage Module –Eliminates all needs for the battery–ESM options depending on application / industry specifics
•USB 2.0 port–Dramatic performance improvement over RS232–Firmware Flashing, Online Edits, Upload/Downloads
• V20 is last version of RSLogix 5000 to allow selection and creation of some existing controllers. V21 firmware will not be available for these controllers

Asset Management
What is an Asset?People – People need tools to help them be more effectiveHardware – production lines, machines, supporting equipment
PLCs, PACs, VFDs, EOIs, drawings, schematics, user manuals…
What do we mean by Asset Management?Keeping track of backups, PLC program changes, VFD parameter settings, device calibration status, process device configuration in the easiest and most automatic way possible
Why manage our plant-floor assets? safety, downtime minimization, security, stress management…all of these are important on their own, and they all improve the “bottom line” - $$$
Is it worth the effort and expense? What does an hour of downtime cost?
OK, so how? What tool is available for Asset Management?

Visualization
What do we mean by Visualization?
In the simplest of definitions, Visualization products create a window into your control system.
• Can be used for monitoring only• Can be used for both monitoring and controlling the system• May include simple data logging for trending time-series analog values• Includes alarming and alarm management• Can include anything from operator level to plant manager level

Data Collection / Persistent Storage
There are two primary choices for long term production data storage:
1. Store Data in a Relational Database such as MSSQL Server, Oracle, etc.• Good for bi-directional data requirements such as recipe data, machine setup
specs, end-of-batch data, etc.• Not as good for large volumes of time-series data
2. Store data in a Data Historian• Good for large volumes of time-series analog data• Not good for bi-directional data

Middleware which provides bi-directional data transfer between control systems and relational database management systems (RDBMS)
• Allows bi-directional data transfer between database and PLC/PAC.• Think recipe data, machine setup specs, end-of-batch data, etc.• Can be purchased with MSSQL Server, or without• Can be used with existing ODBC–compliant databases

Time-Series Data Collection, Storage, and On-Demand Retrieval • Collects, compresses, and archives large volumes (number of
points/duration of time) of time-series data
• Time-series database architecture allows for fast retrieval of data no matter how large the database gets
• Compression and exception algorithms save disk space and can be configured to individual point level if desired
• Data retrieval / reporting accomplished using MSExcel or FTVantagePoint. SQC tools are available.
• Interface nodes can be designed into system to buffer data
• High-Availability designs can be implemented

Manufacturing Performance
What do we mean by “Manufacturing Performance”?It’s all about reducing cost, and there are three general ways to reduce cost
of an automated process:1. Reduce unproductive machine time2. Reduce cycle times3. Reduce waste/scrap
OEE – “Overall Equipment Effectiveness”Measures the three things that reduce costs
1. Productive time = “Availability”2. Cycle times = “Performance”3. Waste/scrap = “Quality”
OEE % = Availability % x Performance % x Quality %
Higher OEE = Lower costs
Question: What is FactoryTalk Metrics?Answer: A management tool to help you optimize production efficiency and reduce costs
Question: How can information from FactoryTalk Metrics help me?Answer(s):
– 1. Benchmark Performance – You can’t improve you don’t measure!
– 2. Reduce unproductive machine time– 3. Reduce cycle times– 4. Reduce waste/scrap
Question: What capabilities does FactoryTalk Metrics include?Answer: FactoryTalk Metrics provides the ability to collect, store, and report data acquired from automation systems.
Question: How does it work?Answer: FactoryTalk Metrics is configured to acquire values (part counts, machine status, events, etc.) directly from your controllers, store, and report based on user configuration.
