Sermons by Request are sermons requested by the people of the church, who have an issue, doctrine or question about how the Bible applies to certain life situations. This week, Pastor Chris Underation’s message will look into the question of how someone who has been saved by God can be happy going into heaven, when they know their loved ones or friends rejected God while they lived. Is it possible to be sad and be in heaven, where the Bible tells us there will be no tears, sorrow or strife? In addition we will celebrate Holy Communion and light the second advent candle — the candle of Proclamation. The First Baptist Church of Hampton is a church that strives to make the Holy Scriptures accessible and relevant to our day-to-day lives. This is accomplished by faithfully teaching age-old truth but giving that truth a contemporary application. If this sounds like something you’d like to experience, stop in some Sunday and visit. Treasurer Nicole Murphy advises that for the Toys for Tots drive, donations “can’t be opened, and can’t be used; they have to be new. We really encourage people to go and out buy toys for people for Christmas, Hanukkah and other [holi- days].” As Historian Julianna Giannusa puts it, “It will cheer them (the toy recipi- ents) up for the holidays.” And, adds May, “It shows them someone cares.” Overall, every effort that is made to reach out beyond the walls of Hampton Acade- my and into the community carries its own reward. “It’s so nice to know that we did that — that we helped people,” says Melissa. And the assistance of a school full of generous donors makes it all possible. “It’s good to help,” says May. “We definitely can’t do it ourselves.” And what does the New Year hold in store for the Stu- dent Council? “We’ll be thinking of other fundraisers,” promises Melis- sa, including possibly collect- ing items for packages to send to US troops overseas and participating in a cancer- fighting relay. “The whole community can help,” she adds, even by providing the Student Council with ideas for these future drives. AMESBURY CHRISTMAS PARADEWith a “Winter Wonderland” theme, the

Amesbury Christmas Parade will kick off onSaturday, December 3, at 3:30 p.m. The paraderoute will follow Sparhawk Street to MainStreet to Market Square. EXETER CHRISTMAS PARADE“Holiday Traditions Around the World” is

this year’s theme for Exeter’s annual holidayparade. The parade kicks off on Saturday,December 3, at 4:30 p.m. and will travel downPortsmouth Avenue, following High Streettowards town center. The procession will con-tinue on Water Street and end where the roadbecomes Main Street. Parade floats will bearthemes from holidays around the globe. A raindate for the parade has been set for Dec. 4. Vol-unteers are still being sought for the day of theparade and donations can be sent to ExeterParade Donations P.O. Box 164 Exeter, NH03833. HAMPTON CHRISTMAS PARADEThe 2005 Children’s Christmas Parade

“Yankee Doodle Dandy Christmas” steps offin North Hampton on Saturday, December 3,at 1:30 p.m. from Lafayette Crossing, and pro-ceeds south to the Galley Hatch on Winnacun-net Road in Hampton.

Eight year old Alek Brown of Hampton,winner of the “Name the Parade Theme” con-test, will be in the position of honor as ParadeGrand Marshall, riding on the Fernald LumberYankee Hitch, complete with six magnificentone-ton Belgian horses pulling a forest green,4,000 pound freight wagon. Once again, Han-naford will be collecting toys along the way forthe Firefighters toy drive, so please bring anew unwrapped toy to contribute to a child’sholiday joy.
