Mr Nolan - Sara Storer Songwriters’ Workshop As part of the Professional Development for staff of Public Schools, teachers are required to attend training to continue to learn and grow. Mr Nolan was eager to attend Sara Storer’s workshop for songwriters to improve his understanding and to better share with other teachers and students at APS some of the facets of modern songwriting. The workshop was held at the SCU and surprisingly was attended by only a small crowd but the event was intimate and very informative. Sara’s music is heavily influenced by her country farm upbringing, and she is passionate about family, the environment and the plight of the farmers. She originally trained as a teacher with the intention of teaching in remote aboriginal communities, but her desire to write songs took her in another direction. Sara’s manager of 18 years, Jeff Chandler, grew up in Lismore, played in bands in the 70’s (including bands with Mr Nolan) and established the booking and management company Encore Entertainment. He and his company lifted the professional stature of live music in the Northern Rivers region during the 70’s and 80’s. Along with Sara, Jeff now travels the globe promoting her brand of music as well as that of other industry greats. Sara and Jeff are excited to have plans in place, along with sponsor Woolworths to take music and musical in-struments into remote schools. It is always nice to see artists genuinely interested in giving young ones an op-portunity to better themselves. Sara spoke passionately about writing from the heart about things that matter, and as a result of her genuine approach, she has written great songs, produced and sold many, many albums and won many more industry awards. Mr Nolan recognised how good it is to meet people from humble beginnings who rise to great heights whilst maintaining their modesty and willingness to share. That is why we all work for the education of children after all, isn’t it!

Student Recounts Whoosh! as a cold flash of wind went past when I opened the door to get into Erin's car at 7.45am! It was so early. When we got to town we switched cars and drove into Lismore for a leadership conference. So I thought it was going to be boring but it was AMAZING!!!!I! They played music so loud that you could hardly hear your-self and one time when we came in everybody in the hall was singing Shotgun. After that I learnt that" ITS ABOUT THE PEOPLE NOT POSITION OR POWER "and the four core traits confidence with humility, others fo-cused, reliability and empathy. And the one I would like to work on is confidence with humility. At the end of the day Erin and I got dropped off at the dance hall and we walked down town to get afternoon tea. Erin got a chocolate eclair and I got a custard tart. Then we walked to see my mum and she gave as chips and lemonade. By Mallee GRIP Leadership conference I was SO worried that I would die of boredom, but after we had arrived at the Lismore City Hall, I was excited to learn new things from the GRIP Leadership team. They had booklets and pens so we could do some writing and activities. I got to go up onto stage and had to do the limbo. Mallee got to go up twice so she could read one of her answers from her booklet and so she could play a quiz game. After that, three students from the audience got to go up with the crew to do a funny role-play. It was an awesome day and I learnt a lot. By Erin

Old paint clothes– our next BLAST painting day will be

on Monday 27th May. Students have plastic painting

smocks at school however it would be a good idea if

they have an old set of shoes and pants to wear while

we are painting the building. Please bring in on this

day to avoid paint stains on uniforms.
