ms Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall

The Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall provides supervised homework time, outdoor and indoor recreational activities and social time with other classmates. The program is offered on every full day of school after dismissal until 6:00 p.m. but it is not offered on early dismissal days.

� It may be utilized on an “as needed” basis and is billed at a rate of $25.00 a day.

� There is also an option to enroll for an entire semester at a rate of $12.00 a day ($900.00 per semester).

Enrichment Program — Grades 1-6The Enrichment Program reinforces, expands and enriches the school curriculum.Courses and activities have been designed to actively engage students in a variety ofactivities to encourage social, emotional and academic growth. All students enrolledin the Enrichment Program and After School Academic Program (ASAP), can stay inthe Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall Program until 6:00 p.m. at no extra chargethe day of the class.

Ceramics — Innovative Hand Building Art Pieces • Maite Oca (Primary)

Students will explore working with clay to create playful sculptural projects and a variety of functional pieces. Students are encouraged to experiment creatively and expand on what they have learned and willfinish off their art work using a range of glazing and painting techniques. Pieces will be fired upon completion, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Ceramics — Learn and Play withClay • Maite Oca (Montessori)Students will explore the basics of hand building with clay and will finish off their artwork using a variety of glazing and paintingtechniques. Pieces will be fired upon completion, creating pieces the girls can cherish for a lifetime.

Food For Thought with Chef StephFood For Thought focuses on teaching childrenthe basics of nutrition while introducing them todelightful and healthy cuisine from around theworld. The students will learn what a balanceddiet really is and how to make some of their favorite dishes into healthier versions. By defining words like, “gluten”, “carbohydrates”,and “processed foods” then discussing, students will learn what is good and bad for theirbodies. This will help students make better dietchoices and develop healthy eating habits thatwill last a lifetime.

Fun with Arts and Crafts • Moira Holohan

Come join Mrs. Holohan, Carrollton’s Intermediate art teacher, for a relaxing afternoon with arts and crafts. In this artclass students will complete 3 projects merging fun fine art techniques with imagination and craft. Students will work withprintmaking, painting and sculpture with funthemes of Easter, fashion and summer fun.

Kidz in Motion • Nicole RandallThis class is designed to introduce children tothe basic concepts of various sports and otherimportant physical exercises such as strength,balance and flexibility. Our goal is to promotegood sportsmanship, as well as a focus on individual achievement to help student’s improve their self-confidence. We will be introducing a fun new sport or activity eachweek. Classes will include warm-ups, exercises, the sport activity of the week and stretching.

Martial Arts • Nicole Plummer

Martial arts is a great way to condition yourmind as well as your body. This class willteach the basics of the martial arts not only to attain physical fitness and participate in

Little Lego Engineers • Karly Spillane (Primary – Grade 1)New students to the program will use their imagination to turn a room full of Lego BuildingBricks into their very own creation. They will learn about “structural integrity, designand a practical sense of Geometry”. They will create their own robotics journals andpresent their designs to the class. More advanced students will use WEDO Lego Education Kits to help them become programmers and make their creations come to life.

Senior Lego Engineering • Karly Spillane (Primary – Grades 2 and 3)New students will be exposed to all types of Lego Building Blocks, Lego We Do andScratch programs to help them create musical sculptures, dancing animals, and otherplayful inventions. Those with more experience will build and program robots using theLego Mindstorm Kits.

Competition First Lego League®, Cyclone Bot • (Intermediate)As team members, students compete by researching a topic and inventing a solution.They are given a team building activity to solve and asked to present their robot and attachments to different judges. Their autonomous robot must solve a set of missions forpoints during three 2.5 minute rounds. Teams must show true sportsmanship in order toqualify for awards. Pre-Ballet I (Introductory Level)

An introduction to dance for girls 3 to 5 years old, this class developsloco-motor skills, flexibility and an appreciation for ballet through creative movement and exercisesfrom the basic elements of ballet. The routine for this class includes a floor warm-up, followed by ballet barre, center and across the floor exercises. The design of the class allows the girls touse their imagination and creativity in order to teach them to move efficiently and inand organized way within the group.

Pre-Ballet II (Initiated Level)

This class is offered to girls 5 years old that have taken at least two semesters of pre-ballet. The class is a prelude to formal ballet instruction and it continues to advancethe skills learned during the introductory level. It aims to prepare them for a “real" balletclass. The elements of creative movement will be augmented by more coordinationand sequence-related exercises; floor formations that teach children to remember their"place" in the room; movement exercises that emphasize straight legs and pointedfeet, posture, placement, stretches and the poise expected in classical ballet.

Ballet IOffered to girls 6 years or older, this class teaches them the structure of a formal balletclass. Emphasis is placed on the development of alignment, strength, flexibility, coordination, style and an understanding of the vocabulary used to describe movementin ballet. These elements will be developed through exercises at the barre, and centerand across the floor combinations.

Preparatory FlamencoThis is an introduction to flamenco for children 3 to 5 years old. The class is designedto teach young children flamenco in a fun way. Students will develop a basic understandingof the rhythm, footwork and arm work used in this style of dance through activities appropriate for their age group. Castanets are also taught in this class.

Flamenco IOffered to children 6 years or older, this class formally introduces students to the rhythmic structure of flamenco while learning the basic technique of this type of dance.Emphasis is placed on correct posture and articulation of the arms and feet. In addition, sevillanas and basic castanet technique are taught in this class.

After School Academic Program (ASAP) — Grades 1-12Schedule and Fees

The After School Academic Program (ASAP) focuses

on math and reading concepts, study skills and

homework help and promotes collaboration between

the tutor and teacher. At the end of the session, a

narrative will be provided by the teacher to the parent.

� Services are available for all subject areas for grade levels 1-8.

� Student teacher ratio is 3 to 1.

� Classes will be cancelled if they do not meet minimum enrollment.

Handwriting ClubMontessori — Fine Motor Club

This small group will look at skills children need to master before entering Kindergarten, such as: lines,shapes, grip and drawing a person. Session will consist of a motor activity, an interactive lesson with a multisensory approach using a variety of materials reinforcing with what they are learning in the classroom.

Primary — Cursive Club

Cursive Club is for those children beginning to learn cursive or for those children needing to refresh cursiveskills. We will go over correct letter formation and connections. All sessions will include FUN multisensoryactivities to incorporate motor learning leading to success with cursive.

Miami Handwriting was founded by Nicole Santamaria OTR/L. Nicole has been an occupational therapist forover 15 years with a vast experience in pediatrics and adults. She is currently providing handwriting tutoringservices to children in the Miami area. She is experienced in handwriting curriculums, such as Handwritingwithout Tears, D’ Nealian and Zaner- Bloser.

Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall: Registration and Procedures

� Registration is available on the parent portal and must be made online.

� A statement will be generated on a monthly basis. Full payment must be received in a timelymanner in order to continue with the service.

� Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall is offered on every full day of school but it is not offered on early dismissal days.

Enrichment Program and After Achool Academic Program (ASAP):

Registration and Procedures

� Registration forms are available on the parent portal and should be submitted as soon as registration opens to guarantee a class space.

� Registration must be made online. We will not accept walk-ins or mailed forms.

� Online registration will begin on August 31, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Enrollment in a class is subject to approval by the After School Office.

� Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis through registration on the parent portal.

� Payment must be received for the registration to be complete and space reserved in the class.

� Classes may be cancelled if they do not meet minimum enrollment.

� If a class is cancelled by the After School Office, you will be notified by email or phone and receive a refund.

� No credits or make-ups are available for absence.

� Refunds and cancellations must take place prior to the third session. A $25 processing feewill be assessed per child.

Extended Day Care / Library Study Hall and Enrichment Dismissal Procedures

� At school dismissal, students are escorted to the designated Extended Day Care/LibraryStudy Hall meeting place by their After School Program (ASP) teacher. At that point, all ASPstudents check in with their ASP staff member and begin their daily activities. A healthysnack will be provided to every student participating in an After School Program.

� All children participating in our programs must be signed out by a parent or an authorizedparty.

� All students enrolled in the Enrichment Program and After School Academic Program(ASAP), can stay in the Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall Program until 6:00 p.m. atno extra charge the day of the class. In addition, sign up for four enrichment classes andstay on Friday in the Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall at no charge.

� All children will be signed out from both Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall, EnrichmentProgram and After School Academic Program (ASAP) by a parent or an authorized party inthe following locations:

• Montessori and Primary (Primary Library/Duchesne Campus)

• Intermediate and Junior High (Founders Library/Barat Campus)

� For your child’s safety and protection, all children will be dismissed by After School Program(ASP) teachers. If you need to pick up your child early from a scheduled class, please go directly to the Extended Day Care/Library Study Hall to sign out your child.
