The purpose of the after school activities program is to enhance the school’s core educational program by offering a variety of activities that support the overall mission of ASB. Activities that promote responsibility, self-confidence and cooperation among diverse groups of students are emphasized.

We are pleased to collaborate with a number of organizations and professionals that share their expertise with our students in our after school activities program. Some examples include:

Escola Tra 1 day per week 450€ / Semester ASB will provide bus transportation from school to Traç. Parents are responsible for picking-up students at Traç, located in Sarria at Calle Paletes 3, 08034 Barcelona.

High School Sports 2 days /week 225€ / Semester Students will also be responsible for some travel expenses for tournaments (200-300€).

Any cancellation must be made within the first two weeks of each semester by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. If no communication is made we will assume that the student will stay in the same activity for the entire semester and refunds will not be considered.

ECC Academic Activities

Life and ScienceStudents will be involved in activities such as developing an “Adventure Garden” that they will take care of while exploring the mysteries of plants, flowers, trees, leaves, seeds, and rocks. Students will also learn about nature and create their own projects using various materials from the en-vironment that surrounds us.

In partnership with CADMUS language school, ASB offers for the first time Standard Arabic (Fusha) for children that already speak the language. The methodology is based on games, songs and entertaining activities combined with reading and writing exercises. From the first moment all the classes are taught 100% in Arabic.For the course to go ahead we need a minimum of 5 students enrolled in the class. Parents will register directly with the CADMUS Academy by sending an email to [email protected]

Acting as young scientists and engineers, students will investigate and learn how machines run and operate. Through the use of gears, levers, wheels and axles, they will explore the exciting world of robotics and programming.

ecc Arts and Music Activities

Mini ChefDuring the Mini Chef activity, the students will be able to experiment for the first time with different foods. They will learn through exploring the different textures, flavors, smells, colors and will have lots of fun creating imaginary characters with the food. (They will not use any heating systems and the utensils are adapted to their age.)

DramaThis activity will focus on the development of four areas of interest: psycho-motor experimentation, creativity and body language, games and drama-tization. This is a great opportunity for students to be introduced to drama and help children understand how their bodies move as they practice gross motor skills in fun and creative ways. At the end of the year there will be a presentation highlighting what the students have learned.

Art with TraThis course consists of different workshops: woodwork, basketwork, painting on glass, printing, engraving, card, stone, paper maché and 3-dimensional art using different materials. Students are introduced to different techniques to enable them to realize their own individual projects.Please bear in mind that the classes will take place in Escola Traç in Sarria, a bus will take the students there and parents will be responsible to pick them up. Dance For funThis class is for our younger dancers. Students will learn the basics of dance and learn about rhythm. They will perform in an end-of-year festival. Dance For Fun teacher Renata Ramos has more than 20 years of experi-ence teaching dance to students of all ages.

ECC Sports Activities

Mixed SoccerBoys & girls will learn basic skills of soccer, good sportsmanship and a sense of team spirit in this activity. Coaches will work to prepare students to understand game situations while in a safe environment.

Mixed Multi-SportsStudents will practice sports in a healthy, non-competitive and safe environ-ment. They will be exposed to different sports and work in various age-level groups.

FrenchIn partnership with the French Institute of Barcelona, students will be divid-ed by level and will develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills through a variety of techniques, including games, music, grammar exercises, and oral discussions on a variety of topics.

Robotics 1 Acting as young scientists and engi-neers, students will investigate and learn how machines run and oper-ate. Through the use of gears, levers, wheels and axles, they will explore the exciting world of robotics and pro-gramming.

In this activity students will design, build and program their own robots with LEGO® MINDSTORMS Education materials. They will learn to control the movement of the robot through the different motors and sensors.

Participants will imagine, design and build a wearable or digital acces-sory. They will use all the tools they need to invent and make their ideas become a reality with LEGO Education. This afterschool will allow your children to have fun and be creative while building their hands-on making skills. Students will be engaged as creators and inventors while they ex-plore science and technology in ways that foster excitement, curiosity and interest in learning.

Chess ClubThis activity will be taught by master teachers from the Edami Chess School. Students will work at their own individu-al level to learn and practice their chess skills. Students will develop and practice an array of skills; focusing, visualizing, thinking ahead, weighing options, thinking abstractly, planning and juggling multiple considerations simultaneously.

Little ChefDo your children always want to help you in the kitch-en while you cook? Now they can! In Little Chef they will be able to experiment for the first time in the kitch-en, learn to cook and eat healthy. Students will be creating fun dishes and learn how they can help their parents in the kitchen! They will not use any heating systems and the utensils are adapted to their age.

ES Arts and Music Activities

Fun ChefFun Chefs will be able to surprise their families at home as they learn to create their first amazing dish-es. They will also learn how to eat healthy and to try all different kinds of ingredients in order to create their signature dish. We will be working with real kitchen utensils and they will learn how to use them properly and safely under our supervision.

Musical Theater Production

We’ve re-invited International Children’s Theater Director, Paul Belanger, to come back this fall to work with your kids in a 12 week after school drama pro-gram concluding with 4 spectacular shows. Your children will learn to perform on stage in a professional theater environment. There will be acting, singing, danc-ing, and plenty of laughs. Paul has over 30 years of experience working with kids and creating performances that will make everyone proud.

We will have one week of auditions (Sept 10-14) followed by 10 weeks of inten-sive rehearsals (Mon&Wed 16:15-18:15, Fri:16:15-19:15), ending with a tech & dress rehearsal, plus 4 performances in front of a live audience. The mission of this program is to use theater to help enhance the overall emotional growth of an individual by building self-confidence and self-esteem. This is a big commit-ment for students and parents alike, building community and teamwork, with an incredible payoff at the end.

Students in 3rd grade and up welcome to audition (7-17 years old).

DramaThis activity helps students to develop their imagination and creativity, to learn how to work in a team, and to learn to be spontaneous. The classes are fun, cre-ative and educational with drama games, music and improvisation. The student groups work on various project performances that are always created and written by the children with guidance from the teacher. The class focuses on children’s natural ability to create their own imaginative worlds. Family and friends are invit-ed to attend the final performances.

We will work with techniques such as coal, pencil, ink, watercolor, oil paint, acrylic... In this workshop, the students will deal with the concepts of emptiness and full-ness, proportion, lace, human figure drawing, portrait, environment, color, etc. Please bear in mind that the classes will take place in Escola Traç in Sarria, a bus will take the students there and parents will be responsible to pick them up. Dance for FunThis class is designed for our younger dancers. Students will learn the ba-sics of dance and learn about rhythm. They will perform in an end-of-year festival. Video ArtThis activity engages students to learn how to make cartoons and video-an-imation, starting from the storyboard, the set and the characters. These activities include drawing, sculpture and video filming. At the end of the course there will be a presentation to parents of the students´ work.

Percussion Orchestra

Learn how to play a range of tuned and untuned percussion instruments whilst learning to read music notation. We will look at simple arrangements of Pop Music alongside more traditional and well known melodies.

Mixed Lacrosse and Field Hockey

ASB is offering a co-ed after school field-sports development program, featuring Lacrosse and Field Hockey. The program will teach three of the key traditions of lacrosse and field hockey: teamwork, respect and deter-mination.The basics of each sport will be taught through age appropriate drills and progressions that develop each players’ agility and coordination, the essential elements of all sports. The coaches will teach the players to honor the game by respecting rules, officials, opponents, teammates and self. Your child will learn while having fun and will emerge a better athlete, teammate and person.

MixedFlag Football

This co-ed sport is designed to provide children with the opportunity to engage in a pre-competitive, instructional games program that teaches the basic flag football skills of passing, receiving, running with the ball, defensive and offensive skills, and the rules and strategies of flag football. Some students have the opportunity to be part of a sub-11 team that plays all year (November-June) in a local Saturday league.

Mini Cheerleaders

With the growing interest in cheerleading at ASB, we are starting a new cheerleading class which will focus on improving flexibil-ity, strength and stage presence. Students will learn and perform choreographed group dance routines (jazz, pom, & hip-hop styles), basic cheers, and jumps.

First Lego League Robotics

FIRST LEGO League is a global program created to get kids excited about science and technology. Students will design, build, test and program robots using LEGO MINDSTOR MS®technology, learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills and participate in tournaments and celebrations.

Maker LabStudents will imagine, design and build a wearable or digital accessory through LEGO Education. This activity will allow your children to have fun and be creative while building their hands-on making skills. Drone engineering

The Drone activity offers an educational environment to teach technology through drones. This activity aims to teach concepts related to CAD de-sign, 3D printing, electronics, basic programming (blocks) or advanced (code) and promote more transversal activities using drones. To close the manufacturing cycle, students will assemble and configure the drone. With the drone built there is the possibility to program the flight of the drone through Scratch or Python and even directly program the flight controller (a more advanced level).

Movie MakingStudents will learn the basics of camera use, narrative structure, character development, screenplay dialogs, shooting, acting, editing and much more. All the equipment for the activity will be provided, including cameras, micro-phones, computers, hard drives, DVDs and multi-plugs.

ms Arts and Music Activities

Top ChefStudents will learn good nutrition habits through hands on classes. The stu-dents will be able to create a variety of healthy menus which will surprise families and friends.

Music Production / technology

Want to learn how to create music using digital audio workstations? Learn how to record, edit and manipulate sound alongside learning about remixing and remastering music. Students will need their own laptop with a version of either Garageband, Logic Pro or Cubase installed.

Concert BandDo you play an instrument? Join the new ASB Concert Band. We will be learning music in lots of different styles, from arrangements of pop songs to well known classical pieces. This activity will be provided free for the first semester.

Girls Volleyball

This activity will focus on improving fundamental volleyball skills through drills, games, fitness and match play. The goal is to form a team that will play friendly matches against other international and local schools through-out the school year.

Mixed Flag Football

Youth flag football is a co-ed sport designed to provide children with the opportunity to engage in a pre-competitive, instructional games program that teaches the basic flag football skills of passing, receiving, running with the ball, defensive and offensive skills, and the rules and strategies of flag football. Students have the opportunity to be part of a sub-13 and sub-15 team that plays all year (November-June) in a local Saturday league.

Mixed Cross Country Running

This activity will combine with the high school team to focus on improving one’s long distance running, endurance and stamina. The team will par-ticipate in local races around Barcelona and will train outside the school around Sant Just.

CheerleadingThe ASB Lynx cheerleading team focuses on improving flexibility, strength and stage presence. Students will learn and perform choreographed group dance routines (jazz, pom, & hip-hop styles), basic cheers, jumps, and sim-ple stunts. Students will prepare for performances throughout the year in-cluding national competitions.

Girls Basketball

Girls in grades 6-8 will focus on improving the fundamental skills of bas-ketball while emphasizing sportsmanship and teamwork. Students have the opportunity to be part of a team that plays in exhibition games and in several tournaments throughout the year.

Boys Basketball

Boys in grades 6-8 will focus on improving the fundamental skills of basket-ball while emphasizing sportsmanship and teamwork. Students have the opportunity to be part of a team that plays all year (November-June) in a lo-cal league. All games are on Saturday in the Barcelona area. Do you want to learn how to create music using digital audio workstations? Learn how to record, edit and manipulate sound alongside learning about remixing and remastering music. Students will need their own laptop with a version of either Garageband, Logic Pro or Cubase installed.

Concert BandDo you play an instrument? Join the new ASB Concert Band. We will be learning music in lots of different styles, from arrangements of pop songs to well known classical pieces. This activity will be provided free for the first semester.

In general, the HS Sports activities are sports teams that train for tournaments throughout the year (September 10th to May 30th). Commitment to play on the team includes a commitment to play in the tournament. This may include extra trip costs.
