The National Information Communication and Infrastructure Policy and Plan(2001-05) envisaged the Rwanda Academic and Research Network – Linking all Institutions of Higher Education into a Wide Area Network with an International Gateway

To promote R&D work in the Universities and Colleges.

To facilitate promotion of academic and research collaboration and twining arrangements with International Centers of Excellence.

To improve and upgrade the ICT resources and Infrastructure of Higher Educational Institutions

CURRENT STATUSCURRENT STATUS

KIST & NUR have Campus Fibre Networks and both use Campus Vsats for their International Gateway. KIE is implementing Electronic Distance Education and Learning in the Country.

They are yet to be linked into a Wide Area Network

National Fibre Network is 100km from Kigali (KIST Location) and 50 km short to reach Butare (NUR Location)
